I'm very sad to say I found this episode very thin and disappointing, especially as it was the season opener. They ended last season in such a high, with one of the best musical numbers they have done. I found the songs in this episode to be quite weak and uninspired.
Here's hoping this isn't an indication of this season. There are so many things I love about this show that if that was their strong opener I'm going to wish it ended last season.
Here's hoping the next episode lands better for me.

7.1/10. Solid, if unspectacular season premiere. Having Louise go all Wizard of Oz/Labyrinth with her fever dream to get over her lack of forgiveness for her family was a bit of a stock storyline, with the show semi-acknowledging it but not going so far in the humor for it to count as a parody. It's a solid message, and Louise growth episodes are usually a hit with me, but this one felt strangely paint-by-numbers and thin in the emotional realization. On top of that, the musical numbers were a little underwhelming too (though Octo-Linda's "and drink and drink and drink and drink" bit made me laugh).
Thankfully, the complimentary story of the rest of the family trying to make things right after they accidentally messed up her toy led to all kinds of fun. Anytime the Belchers are in problem-solving mode, it's usually a sign of big laughs, and this wasn't an exception. From the always hilarious Teddy wanting to come over to watch the hockey game, to the weird, ornery, all-night toy store guy, to Bob's enthusiasm for the toy's elaborate backstory afterward, there was a lot of fun to be had.
Overall, it's a decent episode, one that has some good chuckles, but lacks the punch or emotional depth of the show at its best.
