when he calls her shrimp! such a sweet ending
9.5/10. Such a funny episode! We don't normally get three distinct stories split up like this, so let's take them in turn!
Bob and Linda getting accidentally high with their accountant was gold. Their sheer panic and lapses into marijuana-fueled paranoia, friendliness, and childlike ideas was sidesplitting. And to keep from just being a collection of gags (which would have been just fine!) there's even the throughline of the Belchers not finding his jokes funny and it spilling out in the midst of the highness. Mostly silliness, but enough of a conflict to keep things humming.
My personal favorite was Tina's story. The whole notion that she made eye contact with a boy briefly, and it not only sent her spiraling into willfully getting detention, but then concocting an entire magical relationships that begins and ends in the span of detention period based only on those minor looks is pure, hilarious, endearing Tina. Her song tickled me, and the way we got to hear her inner monologue (as contrasted with Mr. Frond's utter confusion) while she schemed her way to stealing another glance at her would-be beau. It's a perfect little Tina story.
But the main event was Gene and Louise's story. I have to admit, I was initially wondering where they were going with this. But the younger kids' solo adventure with Logan as an antagonist turned out great. Gene stepping into the breach to take the armpitt-related wrestling move for Louise was a nice way to dramatize the way that even if Louise is, in many ways more mature than her "larger" brother, there's ways he can still be her big bro and protect her. It was sweet, and the episode had the perfect button from Bob ("Are they hugging? Do they do that?")
Overall, it was a series of very well done, tidy little stories that I enjoyed all around. Bob's Burgers has been strong out of the gate so far.
Louise crying? I can't believe my eyes. What a sweet and endearing ending.
this season kinda sucks but this episode was GREAT!!!
