Captain Holt is so goddamn extra and I LOVE IT. Also, imagine being as civilized and respectful as Rosa and Amy having that debate. Ugh, I love these people. Stephanie did a great job with her directorial debut. Fantastic material.
Thank you, writers. What a brilliant episode about an important subject. And what a great way to tell it. Amy really touched me with her backstory and her efforts; and Jake, as always, proves to be an inspiring male feminist role model.
Best episode in a long time! So many funny moments, but it also wrestled with a serious subject. 10/10 stars for this episode!
Fantastic episode, the main plot with Amy had a way more serious tone than B-99 usually has but it was handled pretty well, it all felt natural and realistic (the conversations, the episode resolution, how everyone behaved, etc), they summed it in a 20 minute episode and it actually worked - also the discussion it sparkled wasn't preachy and the characters argued respectfully and made sense. The secondary plot with Holt clashed perfectly with the main plot's serious tone with its sense of extra-ness and absurdism. Well-rounded eoisode overall
While we seem to get a lot of feminism episodes these days, no matter if they fit into the general scheme of a show, this one was made pretty decent as it sometimes showed the women arguing about how they get ignored while totally ignoring Jake.
And yes, it is something that does happen. You can't really talk about it since you have all the misogynists you don't want instantly in your corner blowing it totally out of proportion.
Amy's very intimate, very close story explains her personal involvement in the case.
Women sometimes have difficult situations simply because they are women. It is a fact.
Men are sometimes accused by a woman who lies. That's another fact.
I was amused (and by "amused" I mean "I found it disappointing, especially considering this is Brooklyn 9-9") that at NO time, NONE of them suggested "hey, since the whole company says he's a good guy, and 3 years of e-mails suggest the same thing, is it POSSIBLE that the chick is lying?". Nope. None. 20 minutes they have needed to address this issue in such a perfect way. I'll take the "we can be different and still champion the same cause" (accurate), the "this stuff has happened to literally every woman I know", and the "every time I think I understand how bad it is, it's so much worse than I imagined". I can understand that from ignorance and misinformation the thought is "it's impossible for it to happen that much because it would be horrible" but it just is, it just happens as often as it's told. Less denial and more fighting all together against this, because as Amy says, to a greater or lesser extent, it has happened to all the women I know. All of them.
Good for Jake admitting his ignorance and wanting to learn, which is the important thing. And, of course, them for telling and having to deal and live with it. It's a no-brainer for those who are aware, but new people will always come along and that's why it's important for the series to address these issues. You can talk about it and you can make humor without being offensive. Brooklyn Nine-Nine proving, once again, that it is a great series.
Anyway, it was good.
How do they not even mention Gina’s past sexual harassment towards Terry?
The tone of the A and B plot clashed.
The coincidence of me watching this episode right after having a massive rant about being a woman engineer in the STEM field. 10/10 episode. To all the women who are silently fighting I am so proud of you. As Amy said, women constantly have to prove that they deserve the promotion, they deserve their job its tiring. Rosa was also very correct when she told amy she should drop the case, because in reality that woman will always be looked down as a victim. Also, Jake is the male role model.
This episode affected me on personal level! loved it
The new Platonic ideal for doing a Very Special Episode of a comedy without skimping even a little bit on the funny. In fact, you could argue that B99's creative team have evolved the show to the point where heavy subject matter like this no longer feels like it's derailing its usual tone; it's become part of the tone. Extremely impressive work.
Side note: I think this is the first time I've seen Brigga Heelan doing this kind of deadpan comedy, and she's predictably awesome at it. Fingers crossed her upcoming CBS pilot gets picked up (and that it's worthy of her talent).
Booring feministic theme in this one.
Really enjoyed this episode. Gave us the best of both worlds with a fun and comedic B story and a serious and important A story.
This episode is actually very well written. Respect!
A very important episode. Very.

Damn! I've never seen Captain Holt as fierce and deeply motivated as that! I guess we now have a new recurring nemesis in this show (besides Jake Peralta's former nemesis, the Pontiac Bandit). If the dude doesn't die of old age first, that is.
