In each episode, Vern will actually make over two rooms developing a design plan that will bring balance to home and family and life. Homeowners help plan one room's makeover — the other room is a total surprise!

Single mom Babbie Spain puts everything she's got into raising her son Chris who has special needs. In addition, she volunteers as a Special Olympics coach, impacting the lives of countless young adults. Designer Vern Yip turns an outdated rec room into a party room inspired by Babbie and Chris' favorite football team. Plus, he gives Babbie the traditional master bedroom she's always wanted.

Music saved Wayne Woodson's life. As a teenager, it kept him off the streets and out of trouble. Today, he's started a non-profit youth choir that's changing the lives of countless other kids. Designer Vern Yip treats Wayne to a transformation of his cluttered office and living room, creating a streamlined, classic work and living space.

Mike Bryant severely injured his leg in a motorcycle accident. After 21 surgeries to save it, he made the choice to have his leg amputated in order to be a more active dad for his daughter. He volunteers his time counseling patients, helping them get through intense medical procedures and showing them that there's light at the end of the tunnel. Vern turns his dark, outdated living room into a space that reflects his masculine taste and his daughter's girly side. Plus, he gives Mike a brand new media room where he and McKenzie can hang out.

Parents call Nona Hodges a miracle worker. After working five days a week as a school speech pathologist, Nona devotes her nights and weekends to helping parents learn to communicate with their deaf and hard of hearing babies. Designer Vern Yip turns Nona's dark, small office into a peaceful, happy space that will stimulate her creativity. And, he gives her a master bedroom where she can unwind and devote a little time to herself.

Laura Stowers gave the ultimate gift to her best friends? the gift of family. After having two kids of her own and watching her friends go through several miscarriages, she selflessly volunteered as a surrogate mother, helping them complete their family. Host and designer Vern Yip treats Laura to a transformation of her seldom-used sun porch into a deluxe artist's studio. Plus, he makes over the Stowers' awkwardly laid out living room and gives them a brand new guest bedroom.

Mae Burwell is known around her neighborhood as Saint Mae. She runs a low-cost and sometimes free daycare for single-parent families. In addition, she occasionally takes in people in need, living by the credo that "it takes a village." Vern revives Mae's tired living/dining room and infuses it with her own Caribbean style. Plus, he revamps her bland master bedroom, turning it into an island-inspired retreat.

Megan Anderson works tirelessly running a furniture bank where people who are transitioning out of homelessness can find essential items to make their new place feel like home. Host and designer Vern Yip turns Megan's uninviting backyard into a deluxe outdoor living space where she and her family can entertain. Plus, Vern creates a guest bedroom in their home that feels like a luxury hotel suite.

The Smith home is a busy place. Riley and Cindi Smith are the proud parents of quadruplets, all with special needs. On top of caring for the kids, Cindi volunteers her time to help other new parents of multiples get through their life-changing experiences. Host Vern Yip provides the kids with a space for homework and transforms a sitting room into a peaceful library retreat for busy mom and dad.

Edward Powers works tirelessly raising money to fund a program called Traveler's Aid. Through this non-profit, Edward helps feed the hungry, house the homeless and break the cycle of domestic violence. Host Vern Yip creates a modern zen master bedroom/bathroom for Edward and creates a dining space that can accommodate 12.

As a cancer survivor, science saved Christina Gavegnano's life. Now, she feels that it's her turn to pay the world back. While she is studying for her PhD, she devotes the rest of her waking hours to finding cures for cancer and HIV. Designer Vern Yip rewards her with a dreamy master bedroom suite and an update to her living room and dining areas.

Joe Cook works day and night preserving and restoring vital wetlands, but he's taken little time to organize the spare room in his home or to improve the look of his living room. Vern and his team turn Joe's spare room into a functional photo studio and replace his old hand-me down furniture with pieces with style and personality.

Julie Jenks travels the world vaccinating children and working to eradicate polio. Designer Vern Yip gives her home a shot in the arm by transforming a spare room into a nursery for an adopted child from Ethiopia. Plus, he re-designs Julie's dining room which serves as a gathering space for the family.
