A true adaptation of the manga, Devilman is a series following two boys (Ryo and Akira) and their lives after Ryo takes Akira to a Sabbath party and encourages him to be possessed by a demon in the ensuing bloodshed.
The story is quite simple and previous iterations have not been as good, but this series is dark and touching. The animation style is unusual but attractive and suits the themes very well. It's spooky seeing how people act after they have become part demon and the turning points in the series were truly gripping and made me cry out in response.
Definitely worth a watch but be warned there is a lot of violence and sex.
I didn't know what to expect when I started watching this as I'd never seen any of the older stuff, but I was hooked from the first episode. I actually watched the entire show in one sitting. It was completely insane and I loved it.
I'd really like to know what people have seen in these series. Absolutely bad.
Wait this is only four hours......... gonna watch this whole thing right now, also the guy that said most anime is cliche .... fuck you
Lol that was different.... it’s kinda an awful show, characters are so lazy and underdeveloped that literally like all of them die and I couldn’t care less lol. It also has its moments though, kinda a simple concept and simple animation, but executed in a way that kept me glued to my seat even though I hated it. Weird show, it’s short and though I wouldn’t recommend it anyone if you wanna watch something “edgy” or just plain fucked up then give it a go.
Not for the faint-hearted. You have never watched anything quite like this.
Absolutely disgusting! Where can I get more of this material?
Devilman Crybaby, Netflix's anime adaptation of Go Nagai's manga, is a wild ride through violence, gore, and philosophical exploration. While praised for its animation, unique visual style, and tackling of mature themes like religion and identity, it's equally criticized for its graphic content, sometimes gratuitous violence, and pacing issues.
If you're looking for something intense, thought-provoking, and visually distinct, Devilman Crybaby might be your jam. But be prepared for its brutal content and uneven execution. It's definitely not for everyone, but for those who can stomach it, it offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
Honestly, this is the definition of a show going from 0-100 really quickly. I will say the animation lacked for me even though I understand why they chose this style, but the soundtrack made up for that. I think this show was pretty good, and had a lot of interesting themes, but I just don't think it was for me.
yeah... I dont get it
Here is a spoiler, everyone dies
Literally everyone

Such a nice surprise! Really didn't expect to be so rooked by it but alas I can't even get the OST out of my mind. The last two/three episodes tho, gutted me.
one of the best anime I've seen.
There is little I can say without going into spoilers, but what I can say is that it is surprising, it is full of surprises and it always leaves me with a good taste in my mouth, even though I did not like the ending since it was not what I wanted, but it is the best ending they could give it and without a doubt it is the best.
Those rappers deserve better.
After trying out other "top tier" anime recently and being underwhelmed(looking at you Anohana & Erased), I can at least say I don't want to say negative things about DevilMan Crybaby.
Apparently this was the bible, can't state that did much at all for me as someone with very little/zero christian influence and I didn't feel there was much in terms of characterization or setup to make Devilman Crybaby be interesting on it's own the way say, a Chainsaw Man would.
I did really like the show visually though, from the weirdass motions, the kickass designs and all the pretty backgrounds, it was easy to just enjoy watching a lot of this
There's a lot of edge to this christian show and damn, early on is it really off putting, especially with how uninteresting the setup can feel. The story flows better later on but a lot of it can feel disjointed or straight up unmemorable after I'm done watching. This is a series with asshole demons and I left with very little to remember or ponder about.
A lot of scenes felt like they're just there compared to the handful of really well made scenes throughout episodes that could stand alone. I think I'd enjoy this a lot more as a series of shorts rather than a tv show.
OST is good I guess but unfortunately I saw a clip of the show set to Running in the 90's and that makes me upset this show isn't set to eurobeat
Sure wish I didn't know this was directed by Eizouken's director so I didn't have sky-high expectations. Excited to have sky-high expectations again for when I watch Ping Pong The Animation.
What a beautiful anime. I struggle with shorter series because there's less time for me to connect with characters and buy into storylines that are usually forced to be represented at face value for the sake of time. A lot of limited series struggle with that, and this show does have its downfalls due to cramming everything in ten episodes...but. Devilman Crybaby, I think, doesn't struggle to tell its story and make you feel something--it THRIVES. I think the only small thing I would complain about is that I wish I could've understood more about how this world worked, but the show definitely gives you enough so that you're not confused. I was RAVING at how this show made me feel for each and every one of these characters, even the ones who had very little screen time (ahem...THE RAPPERS!!! I love them so much). The characters' relationships kept me on my toes (I would willingly sacrifice my life for Ryo and Akira's happiness, okay), and the plot and its many conflicts never let me relax. Predictable is not a word in Devilman Crybaby's dictionary.
The animation is absolutely gorgeous; it's definitely different. Sometimes I didn't like it, but for the most part it was refreshing from the usual animation style I've grown accustomed to. I had no idea what this show was about when I started it, so I was totally blindsided by all of the explicit nudity and violence...but MORE IMPORTANTLY: I WAS BLINDSIDED BY THE WAY IT TOOK MY HEART AND SQUEEZED THE LIFE OUT OF IT. Oh man. That ending was absolutely PHENOMENAL. Please watch this show; it's literally only like 4 hours of your time.
fucking insane show. how do these people come up with this stuff? holy shit.
Wow, this is great. I was unprepared for this, I guess. It's really disturbing, provoking, emotional, erotic. And what an original direction from Masaaki Yuasa!
