I think this is a great show, I've watched it from start to finish a couple of times. Sure, the last couple of seasons aren't as good as the first but there are very few series out there that have good final seasons or end the way people would like.
In related news: somebody, for the love of God, give Debra a cheeseburger. And fries. And a shake.
This is my favourite show of all time!
I have watched it from start to finish 3 times now.
Why îs not updated? Dexter has now a 9 season and it s alreasy at his 5 episodde.
New Blood is being released as Dexter season 9
It may get repetitive as it goes, but every season has moments that are worth it.
I even like the last seasons, it's just on the very ending where they drop the ball.
It's coming back 2021!!!!
I am in love with this show! I'm anticipating a horrible ending due to all the things I've read but I'm prepared. It won't take away from such a wonderful show!
It was a rough start, but when watching you can't stop. Have to say, the finale was a disappointment.
Such a great show with a terrible end.
This is the best series i've ever watched. İt should not end :((
Cut out the last 30 seconds and the final episode would have been alot better.
It's time to speak the truth. I've been a Dexter fan since the beginning and have awaited each new season with high hopes, but the harsh reality is that this show hasn't been any good since season 4. I keep wanting it to be good, but it just isn't. It's almost as if the writers (Scott Buck in particular?) made the decision that, hey, since this is all fantasy anyway, nothing has to make sense or have any continuity whatsoever. The writing is awful, the dialog is horrible, the excessive Dexter voiceovers pointing out the obvious show that they don't give the audience credit for anything anymore, and the massive royal F*** YOU of it all was this insane, ridiculous notion of Debra being "in love" with Dexter. And it's not just that it's "gross" because they're step-siblings. It's completely cheesy, stupid, out of character, and unnecessary. I'll watch the rest of it because I'm too invested now, but unless the last six episodes surprise and impress the hell out of me, I'll always look back on these 8 seasons as, "alright, the first half was good; the second half was mediocre at best." Now, let the abuse star
I love Dexter since years, so I don't want to be too negative here.
But I have to say: I am so f?#*ing disappointed in S6 that I am thinking about to stop watching it till the last remaining episodes have aired - then watch them all in fast motion.
And someone please give Jennifer Carpenter (Debra) a Golden Globe/Emmy/etc. for her outstanding performance in every single episode.
"Best Actress on Television"
"Tonight's the night!"
Dexter will always be a part of me and many more people. Always and forever.
I will never ever get over this show, it’s ingrained into my being, it’s part of me, it’s everything
First 4 seasons were really good from what I remember so I'll give it a 5 since the tail end was not good.
"Surprise mothaf*cka!"
One of the most legendary moments in television.
İf you like crime you will like this series
Just bought the DVD series 1 set...
Such an incredible show, but the mediocre season 6 and the awful season 8 tarnish it's legacy quite a bit.
Third viewing, no change.
Still one of the best shows to ever hit the air. A great concept with amazing acting by Michael C. Hall and a riveting story. It's great throughout, only jumping the shark with its much-hated ending. There are a few things of note. Firstly, in Season 5, La Guerta is proven to be a sociopathic careerist. She overrides Debra's decision to avoid danger and causes innocents to die. Not only does she not admit that this was a mistake, she gets people to lie and make it Debra's fault. All this makes Harry's response to Dexter's plan to kill her all the odder. In Lumen's case, we have a completely innocent victim and Harry insists that per rule 1 of the code (Don't get caught) Dexter must kill her. Then, when Maria becomes a much greater threat to him, he says that she doesn't even begin to meet the code, even though she's indirectly responsible for the deaths of innocents. The ending is hated for a reason. I see no reason why Dexter wouldn't just go with Hannah and instead go be a lumberjack (which directly conflicts with the sequel.) Lastly, the addition of Hannah was a great one. Not only does it showcase Dexter's humanity and true ability to feel emotion, but she's the hottest girl in the show as well.
man: begins to pray
Dexter: punches him in the face Stop! That never helped anybody.
I died lol
Just realised the new season is being tracked separately here:
https://trakt.tv/shows/dexter-new-blood
My favorite show l love it :hearts::hearts:
Dexter was one hell of a ride. I had been meaning to get around to it for so long and just never did. It's first four seasons could contend for the best of any show ever. Unfortunately, after that the seasons get a bit messier and the final seasons is one of the rougher conclusions to any show I can recall. I do very highly recommend this show to anyone that has an interest for murder type dramas. Obviously this show puts quite the spin on that general premise, and even deeper than that, every season puts it's own spin on the baseline interesting premise. It took me a near decade after the finale aired to finally get around to watching this show, but I can guarantee it will not take me that long to get around to rewatching this show a second time.
Average Season Review: 8.38/10
Recommendation: Must See (For Murder Drama Fans)
EDIT - Following New Blood Reboot
Anything lost in the finale is gained in New Blood. The reboot is one of the best seasons of Dexter, with a fresh tone, and more conclusive endings.
Average Season Review: 8.5/10 (Main Show + Reboot)
I would recommend this show to anyone wanting a new show to watch. I have watched this show a couple of times already and now rewatching it again to time for it to return. Love this show and I consider it up there with the great tv shows. Im super excited for it to return.
Season 9 Will come yoooohaaaaa
One of my favorites. I would have never expected for show like this to have such an impact on me.
Best and almost only police show i ever watched :)
I finished it in 2-3 weeks so good.
But after Rita died its getting less good but still nice to watch.
The last episode was insanly good shot insane feelings...
Blood Theme is playing on repeat in my head again. Excited for season 9!
I just learned that there will be a Season 9 - So hyped!!!
my favorite show on TV.
I watched the whole series. Its not bad but the earlier seasons reminded me how far tech has come. Also I heard there was a new season, how does that work when everyone has smartphones? Its a good series, I didn't have a problem with the later seasons I thought it was an ok attempt to explore and have the main character grow.
season 6: domsdaykiller:
snakes at one ep. is a little bit disgusting.
church thing felt dragging.
season 4: trinity killer:
that old man's behavior felt disgusting.
desperation of victim bathtub etc felt really infuriating. wanted to shot mdfk in da head.
Season 7 8 : Yvonne (from Chuck). her story felt little dragging.
other seasons didnt bore me that much . but after season 4 ,some substories kind of like filler. could be cut short.
Even though, im angry , distasteful, or plain bored by those killers/chars in those seasons, i enjoyed dexter's love life, family, interactions with friends enjoyable.
still one of best. cant find anything come close to breaking bad , dexter.
Loved it all but it could have had a better finale.
what actual bomb acting by Jennifer carpenter. she acts like the perfect anxious person.
Maybe my best show !
I loved the character, I love the suspens and the psychologic side of the character.
I wasn't very enthusiastic at the start, but I was convinced to watch and I really hooked on quickly until last season.
Maybe the ending suited me too, but I really liked the plot and the psychological aspect of the character.
Great show, the final season isn't as great as the rest, and the finale isn't very good, but for the most part "Dexter" is a very interesting show worth giving a go.
Absolutely amazing a one of a kind!!!! 66
Great idea , loved it But. Every season is the same formula. Special guest repeat
This show started out great! The first couple seasons had me hooked! As the show went on it seemed to get too confusing and had too much going on that didn't make sense. By then end I was only watching it because I had watched so much already and I got no closure or content.
This show started out great! I loved the first couple seasons. As it progressed it got worse for me and had too much going on that didn't make sense and by the last season it was just bad and confusing. I finished it only because I had came as far as I did.
Pretty good although the ending was kinda disappointing and the sometimes painfully dragging.. alright series overall.
The best TV series ever! Interesting stories, loveable characters! I have already watched it at least four times!
Untill season 4 is a Masterpiece, then is an average tv show, still enjoyable but makes you disappointed comparing 5-8 to 1-4
Best series I've seen so far .. in front of Breakind Bad, Sounds Official Anarchy and Vikings !! ..
I don't think the ending was bad but imo, it was disapointing.
dexter slowly learnt to genuinely love people throuhought the whole series, but he ended up just leaving the people he loves at the last moment.
now I know this decision makes perfect sense, absolutely perfect sense given everything that happened.
BUT the first and main reason he did that was because he realised he kept hurting people he loves. but that was because of his second life and all the killings. meeting hanna made him able to live without that part of him.
I think that dexter dieing would have made more sense.
I was sure a "happy ending" was impossible, and I don't know if it would have been better.
still, my favourite series, not that I've watched lots of "series", but if I was to put this in my all time favourite series(adding in animes/mangas and shit) it would be top 3.
10/10 great characters developement, got very attached to them, great storyline ,just great everything.
deb is hot
Intriguing show, kept me interested all the way till season 8. Season 8 was a bit of a let down.
best show ever killing bad people is still wrong, but he still makes you love him
One of the best series is of all times
One more can I say
One Of the best TV shows I’ve ever seen many times make more like it
Liked it for the most part, disliked the father character.
A series that's really worth watching, keeps you at the edge of the seat till the end. Ending is kinda fitting but it will NOT be the way you expect, so many were disappointed because it wasn't how they pictured it. It's fine by me but there could've been more.
Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan nails her role. Atleast you should watch this just for her.
I'm gonna miss this show and the characters ;-;
This was a really good show, i have watched this 2 years ago and for me i still can't find a better show than this.
I hope and believe that Dexter will becoming like Prison Break.
That ending though. I don't think anything else would have worked. You don't watch Dexter for the happy ever after. Good TV.
This is the best TV shows,I have ever seen
The ending just didn't make up for all the greatness the past seasons Dexter had. So disappointing.
Dexter is amazing, never a dull moment.
Loved every bit... sure the ending could have been better but it doesnt ruin this amazing show.
First four seasons (especially Season 1 and 4) are great, but after that it becomes a boring mess.
Still have not found a better show than this. Dexter is a really good show. I really recommend it.
Best show I've watched! Disappointed in the finale
Love the show but yes the finale was a disappointment
season 1,2, great.4 amazing
rest is medium at best
TOTALLY LOVE THIS SERIE. I first thought I wouldn't like it, because there was such a hype around it and stories about women going totally crazy over Dexter. But I understand the hype. My number 1 favorite serie. It has the perfect amount of psycho and excitement. Almost makes me wanna be like Dexter ;)
Amazing, Loved every second of it. Jennifer Carpenter is the best actress ever. The ending was crazy, not sure why it had to go that way, but it was a great story. I did shed some tears in the finale
Well loved watching it mostly, at the end it got kinda dragging and in somehow uncomfortable for me. Hated the ending though, still pretty good series to watch.
I loved every season bar the last I think it went a little OTT and just ddin't feel as strong as the others still an amazing show!
Such a great dark show! I find Dexter to be intriguing to say the least and the ' Dark Passenger ' I'm sure we can all relate to in some form or another. I miss these characters and would've liked to have seen an alternative end. A must see, even if it is just for the exceptional guest roles of Jimmy Smits and a huge role well portrayed by John Lithgow. Do not miss this show.

I loved watching Dexter for years. It was one of my favorite shows for a long time. But the last season was very disappointing to me.
so is dexter coming back?......
A great series, but its last 4 seasons are really bad.
My ending would have been WAY better...
Dexter was one of my all time favorite shows until the ending...what a stupid ending! All thru the last couple episodes I kept thinking...how are they gonna end this? Will Dexter sacrifice himself to save Deb? Has the erg to kill really disappeared? Will he get away without anyone knowing? Will there be a crazy twist that I never saw coming? Whoever wrote the ending to the greatest show ever should be drug out into the street and shot...I mean WTF?...seriously.
So I was in the middle of the final episode when this scenario suddenly popped into my head and I decided it would be the perfect ending...and maybe the sickest...
So Hannah and Harrison get on a bus to Jacksonville so they can get outta the storm zone and catch a flight to whatever location Dexter plans to make his fresh start...right...so from there the rest of the episode plays out exactly the same way up to the scene where Dexter takes Debs body out to sea then apparently blow up his boat to stage his own death. Here's where it changes. From there we see Dexter walk into a hotel in an unknown location. At the front desk he says his wife and son have already checked in and he needs to pick up his key. Flip to Dexter entering hotel room and calling out to Hannah. As he rounds a corner he sees Hannah dead in a large pool of blood...then he sees Harrison...sitting in Hannah's blood...holding a knife. Dexter then hugs Harrison and tells him everything is gonna be okay. Jump to 10 years later where we see Dexter and teenage Harrison in one of Dexter's plastic covered kill rooms with a body on the table. Dexter is giving Harrison a lesson on how to get away with murder and we then see that Dexter has been teaching Harrison how to control his erg to kill and how to follow "the code" that his own father taught him. THE END
Now you be the judge...who's ending is better...mine or theirs?
Great show! Loved it all the way through. Sad that it's gone.
I'd recommend Dexter to just about anyone, serial killers included.
I've watched Dexter through-and-through about four times in total. After completing all eight seasons the first time, it was my favorite TV show. I loved it. After watching it the third time I realised just how mild and underwhelming the writing is. I cringed everytime something overzealed happened.
The show really showed promise. They layed a fascinating foundation, but after season 4 it really went downhill.
"There are no secrets in life; just hidden truths that lie beneath the surface." Not bad at all, ending was lame though.
One of the best series i have ever watched.
Jennifer Carpenter aka Debra Morgan was amazing in the whole serie.
But as a reminder i wanted to leave the serie at Sesion 6 the worst season.
The best season was 5.
Last few seasons sucked, just sayin'
Great, Dexter is an awesome show. Ended up terrible? o.O
Remember when people used to say Dexter is one of the best shows on tv? I do... Then season 8 happened...
Was very good until season 3/4, then ... so so
I don't like the ending, but overall it was a great show.
Best TV Show Ever!!!
Meh.. descent just nothing too special
Meh.. descent just nothing too special
Though, the last season was not great as those previous ones, this show is captivating!
J'aimerai tellement voir la saison 9 ! Même si elle n'existe pas
Very addictive series.
One of the greatest shows
One of the greatest shows, shame about the last two seasons though!
is season 9 likely???? I know, dex can come back from the cabin, or continue his path up there?
Loved this series. It didn't have the same feel by the end though.
The best séries of everytime.
5 stars for that...
To bad I'm identical to the ole boy.and Everything he stands for, thinks, and lived in Miami,as well as law enforcement.and would have same code.only after studying all facts and figures, would I ever do it...to the letter.BUT,it kills me that it would never happen as fantasy,fiction,Hollywood,etc..flawlessly plans,or writes.and that is fact.the flawless writings.how I wish I could really carry on his work in real life.i know first hand experience...justice system SUCKS.and scum like his targets, get away with murder every day...just to kill and kill again.fuck that circumstantial, and rights shit.100% guilty.like the victims, didn't have a chance to say goodbye to the ones they love,so upon guilty verdict, take the fucks straight to the public square...crime fits the punishment.Rape, strap em' down, cut their shit OFF,and before they bleed out,you slam a red hot poker up their ass, that they can light one last smoke.THE END!
Dexter is an acquired taste. How you move from distancing yourself and eying detachedly his moves in the beginning of season 1, to wanting to find more about him towards the end of that season, to rooting for him in season 2, to feeling more involved in season 3, to feeling every pang of his pain and suffering in the ending of season 4... is a testimony of this series growth, involvement, action, drama, thrill, and well even comedy relief with Deb.
Unfortunately, as with everyone else here, I think the show went downhill from there onwards. Season 5 was acceptable. Season 6 was painful to watch, and its only redeeming quality was in the last scene where everything somehow makes sense (albeit not even remotely in a satisfying way) with the "oh God" words uttered at the end of 12 religion-axed episodes. Season 7 was so uncharacteristic that I don't even remember any of it, except some parts of the finale. Season 8 was meh, predictable, and almost an insult to the viewers who stuck with Dexter until the end. So many characters were added as fillers, as if the writers didn't know how to create content for 12 episodes. Contrast that with the riveting breath-taking first four seasons and you know how disappointing that is.
I read a lot about the finale, to try and see the different points of view, and the one article that stuck with me was an interview with the showrunner who explained all of the writers decisions with it. The problem with it? It was logical, a bit too logical, a series of very obvious cause-effect relations that lacked any of the original Dexter's surprise, unexpected twists and smart moves.
Dexter will always live with me as the series with the most ground-breaking first 4 seasons, and I'll choose not to remember what happened afterward.

Does anyone know what the limited season is going to be called? Is it just going to fall under Dexter Season 9 or Is it going to be called something else? I can’t seem to find it on any of my Trakt or show update sites. I would really like to bookmark it and set a reminder. Please, if anyone could help!!
