male pregnancy and an alien that was more cute than scary, what was Chibbnal smoking when he wrote this?
The meh-est episode so far. I still think the dialogues were terrible and sounded weird to my ears. Especially Ryan's dialogues. And the Doctor constant rambling didn't fit Jodie. It felt force.
It's not an alien, it's a Pokemon!
Contrary to most, I actually think this is the best Episode of the Season so far.
The Doctor finally acted like the Doctor and used her witts.
Yes, the General with her "I am a female General..." was a bit annoying (and confusing - so we are degrading into a complete patriarchy again? - There are already female Generals you know?).
I guess she should show us the pressure layed on women in power positions. Kind of depressing when those issues still exist a few hundred years later though.
Why don't we have Uhuras anymore, showing us the world how it should be (Well ST:TOS was still pretty sexist from todays perspective, but very progressive for it's time) instead of showing us how it is and preaching how wrong that is.
Give people something to aspire to, instead of sth to run away from!
Other than that:
We had a non-evil adversary (It was just hungry), the doctor didn't condemn killing the master but allow it for the slave (Episode 1), tell people not to use weapons just before building and using one herself (Episode 2 - The EMP-Bomb), it didn't have someone evil, who is evil because he is a greedy american white male (Episode 4 - what the fuck was that?).
If you ask me: Episode 4 was the worst by far, not this one.

P.S.: I liked the male pregnancy for the most part. Just the parts where they go on "Oh my god, I could never do that, bla bla" were a bit annoying. But I can live with that, it was just about 4-6 seconds.
Childbirth might be horribly painful. But a normal female body also produces chemicals to counteract the trauma of the pain.
I don't think it's possible to know what it really feels like unless you lived through it (Which human males never will).
The worst episode i've seen.
Well, the season redeemed itself.
While i generally don't like CGI-Monsters in Doctor Who, the Story actually felt like Doctor Who again.
No killing (Episode 1 - The cable-thingy) while preaching not to kill, no weapon-building right after telling people not to use Weapons (Episode 2 - EMP built by the doctor to be used against androids...), no big lecture about racism (Episode 3 - don't get me wrong, i liked the episode and rated it accordingly, but it didn't feel like Dr Who) and finally no cheap hits against americans (I mean, what was that crap in Episode 4?).
Also, there were multiple problems to solve and they were solved by the doctor with the companions and surrounding people pitching in.
Just like it should be!
So a solid 9/10 if you ask me.
The creature was so cute
This is impressively bad. Like, it’s actually amazing how boring and uninspired this is. Like a Doctor Who episode written by an algorithm. I am done with this show for as long as this hack is at the helm.
He’s here. He’s there. He’s every-fucking-where. Roy Kent!
still not impressed with Jodie's acting. there has certainly been worse writing in parts of who's history that appeared better due to the actor. her acting doesn't seem genuine to me. She appears like she is acting rather than being a character. It seems creative marketing to say she brings a lot of energy to the part because I see no evidence of range. I hope she gets more comfortable with the part. I was so excited to see her doctor so am disappointed.
Holy Rabbid batman. The bad guy in this reminded me of a certain computer game. tho kudos for the interaction between cgi and physical items or the actors.impressive.
I feel sorry for Jodie. She could really shine if not for the poor writing. still waiting for who to start being who

While this was probably the weakest episode so far, it still had quite a few good moments in it and overall I enjoyed it. I thought it felt appropriately claustrophobic given that the characters were stuck on a space ship. And the monster had to be some of the best CGI Doctor Who has ever done! It looked so realistic and its movements were so smooth that I fully believed it was actually there. If you think that it was too cutesy, that's fine. Personally, it didn't bother me too much. I actually liked the expectation subversion and the fact that such a little thing could be so threatening.
Some of the dialogue felt clunky and I really wish Chibnall would let someone else actually write an episode (I know we've got a few stories by other screenwriters coming up, which I'm very excited about). And it pains me to say that as brilliant as Jodie is in the role, the writing in this one didn't do her any favors. Don't get me wrong, there were certainly some good lines in there (I liked Thirteen naming all the things she was a doctor of, I thought the goodbye speech to the pilot was beautiful, the Doctor's amazement at the antimatter drive made me fall even more in love with her, and the banter between the Doctor and Yaz while they were waiting for the monster cracked me up), but most of it just didn't flow well, I guess? I can't quite put my finger on it.
We saw Ryan and Graham's relationship develop a bit more, as well as Ryan helping the pregnant guy and encouraging him to keep the baby, telling him that fatherhood isn't about being perfect, but rather about being there for your kids. That's one thing that Chibnall does really well, I think, and it's why so many moments this season have reminded me of Broadchurch: those long, character-focused conversations, often accompanied by close-ups keeping the focus on the characters' faces, allowing the emotions to shine through. It's the kind of thing that you don't see much of in sci-fi and it's definitely one of the main reasons why this season feels so different from the previous ones. Not bad different, but there's been undeniably a big change in the overall tone of the show, which I imagine some fans might not appreciate. Personally, I like that they're doing something new and those quiet moments let me connect with the characters more, which is a big plus.
So, was this a bit of a mess? Yes, yes it was. But as a rule, I always try to focus on the positives because life's just more fun that way. I certainly wouldn't call this a bad episode by any means, and I'm 100% certain that it's going to end up being a lot more memorable than most of season 10, for example (I love you, Peter, but I don't remember what happened in that season for shit). It's not the first so-so story in the show's history and it won't be the last, but since the previous 4 episodes were really good, this little bump in the road doesn't worry me. I'm sure there's plenty of quality writing and good fun ahead.
Oh, and one last thing: at this rate the TARDIS will have to handcuff the Doctor inside so she stops losing her. Seriously, it's getting embarrassing. Give us more scenes in the TARDIS!
