Shouldn’t the TARDIS have caused the Cyrillic sign in the underground tunnel to appear as English?
At this point, I really feel sorry for Jodie and the companions, the writing is really making her look bad when she clearly has the potential to be amazing.
The writing has been very uneven since the beginning of this doctor, but this steaming pile of garbage really takes the cake. It contradict quite a bit of new who history, the plot is just beyond stupid, and then trying to use the sledgehammer to drive the message home, and failing at it anyway.
It's not that the topic of climate change is bad, but in this particular series with its time travel and general acceptance of weird and spontaneous rules, there are so many better ways of doing a story about that than "earth is fucked now, because nobody did anything. Also, random monster for scary factor."
No show runner really had consistently good episodes, but the current one makes me even look back on the Rüssel T Davis era much more fondly.
This makes me sad, but this was probably the last episode of Doctor Who i will watch.. It's sad to see that after 854 episodes, since 1963, that a single director can screw up the show this much and get this amount of crap back without making any changes to the way the show is made.
When i sit down to watch tv i want to escape reality for a short amount of time and watch something entertaining and fun, not be forced to listen to political preaching.. I agree we need to take care of the environment and that racism is bad, but this is not the setting in where i want to be force-fed those messages. I sat down to watch an entertaining show..
For the people that say that previous doctors also have done this i just say.. There is a difference in placing a story in a setting that is a bit similar to here and then let people think and talk about it.... This is the first where every episode force-feeds it's viewers with the producers/writers point of view.
To sum it up for the Jodie era...
- Bad scripts with huge plot-holes and inconsistencies with previous seasons.
- Too much preaching..
- Complete personality-change of the doctor, like leaving people to die when they could have been saved with the tardis after they where teleport'ed back.
- Too many useless companions.
- Companions seem to steer the doctor instead of the other way around.
- It's a show about space and time, not about being on earth at different times.
- Too much bad acting (bad scripts and/or bad actors)
I think Jodie could have been a great doctor, with better scripts, and i did see a few scenes where i really liked her way of portraying the doctor. But with all this forced preaching and bad scripts there is probably not much hope for her.
An episode so profoundly derivative, trope-ridden, and obvious that it makes me long for the days of Steven Moffatt.
I haven’t heard complaints of anyone actually getting cancer from a windmill. Yet, Trump supporters rather hear that bull.
Than consider there might actually be a climate change. Which is more believable than the windmill crap. Because storms and especially hurricanes are getting worse every year.
Shows that even mention climate change automatically get one star. But if it was an episode about the monsters created by windmill cancer. Probably would get a 10.
omg, it was such a nice episode - right up until the end when the writers decided that we needed a 2 minute lecture about climate change.
I was actually impressed by the subtile beauty of the message until Yaz had to yell "CLIMATE CHANGE" continued by a lecture about being responsible to the people actually least able to do anything about it, since they aren't actually on earth but travelling with her...
I like subtile messaging about issues - I HATE being preached to when trying to be entertained, so thats a 4/10 from me...
I honestly struggle to see how this made it to air without someone stopping it. Awful writing (that contradicts existing Who), awful acting from some (BENNI!), a message so heavy-handed it's annoyed even the people who agree with it and don't even get me started on the 'cat' person.
It's not the message that's the problem. It's the quality of the episode.
It seriously felt like an episode from a shitty TV show. The relationship drama was crap like "I'm mad at you" and 2 seconds later, after useless problems created because of that, "I love you". Complete crap!!!
All the characters were useless.
The reveal brought nothing about except a lecture.
The doctor is once again inconsistant. The companions are merely "there" and do nothing for the story.
I never felt emotionally connected to anything in this episode. It was cringe worthy.
What the hell happened to the writing of this show!!!!!!!!!! I am soooooooooo mad!!!!!!!!!!
now that is the worst thing i've ever sat through on tv
Doctor Who re-makes Aliens, and there’s a subtle warning about climate change which may go over most deniers heads.
This would have to be one of the worst Doctor Who episodes I've seen. Forget the climate change story, the writing was terrible with the unsatisfactory moments of characters dying or coming back for no reason (plot armour), losses don't have the effect they should have because the setup was terrible, backstories of characters were paper-thin (e.g. angry at parents because they didn't raise me properly and now I want to blow them up).
The story was railroaded into particular paths for little reason than to fill episode time ("let's go outside, oh wait it's a bad idea let's go back inside")
The production team dropped the ball on this one, there were multiple sequences where the outfits/devices being used weren't consistent (would disappear suddenly).
The acting was mediocre at best, flat and doesn't elicit a very strong response from the viewer.
Editing was terrible with some cuts removing vital movement scenes to make a transitional cut make sense (e.g. you fall over and now you are suddenly standing again, and we didn't see you fall or see you get up, but we hear dialogue which isn't enough).
You could have had the story run without the old couple and it been a chase the entire time, you could have had the mother not "die" then come back out of nowhere and still get a reunion via separation of tasks and willing to sacrifice herself to undo her daughters misdeeds and at the same time reveal that it was all for daughter (which was never revealed to her). Why did it have to be just the doctor losing air to suddenly come back, couldn't more people be air famished then the doctor makes the discovery leading to a tense moment where multiple people have to air refill, otherwise not have it be a factor at all. Forcing the doctor to not speak because of air was smart but could have been played out further in a crucial moment, taking away one of the strongest strengths and turning it to weakness.
Oh no, it hurt the feelings of all the people who believe climate change is a hoax. Because Trump says so with no proof at all that it is a hoax.
I think this episode shows that the creative behind the show now has hijacked the show. Their motives are not to make a Sci-fi show or build on from this iconic show.
An episode with Furries, shitty inconsistencies with already established Doctor Who history, bad acting and a preachy, pushy speech about climate change just to top it off.
That's a hard no from me, mate (sorry I meant "fam", because that's how Doctor Who thinks we talk now).
And to think I liked the way Episode 2 ended.
What has happened to the Doctor Who series I used to love?
It seems as though its gone right down the pan lately!
I actually cringe now while I'm watching an episode, but I keep on watching it in the hope that it's going to get better, but alas it never does..
About the worse episode of Doctor Who I've seen. I don't even care about the morals of the story. It's the awful actors, dialog and "scary" monsters.
THIS CHAPTER MADE ME THOUGHT. I BELIEVE CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING IS A BAD THING
If that lady screams about Benni one more goddamn time...
Weak episode but not for the reasons people seem to be complaining about. Why does climate change talk trigger people so much? It's scientific fact. Literally just about spreading awareness and making changes. Not gonna kill you!
Doctor Who has officially jumped the shark. I thought the writing was bad during Capaldi, but this is absolutely the worst.
Supporting actors are still not there and the episode specific acting is at an all time low.
Then we have to get lectured for the last 5 minutes on junk science garbage.
I can’t see me watching much more of this horrid tripe.
The Doctor Who franchise has just absolutely wasted the talent of Jodie Whittaker and will lose a ton of viewers. I should have seen the writing on the wall during the horrid Spyfall episodes. At least we had a good run from Eccleston up through Matt Smith.
this is the first episode i’ve watched since matt smith and i have to say the show seems to have gone downhill since. that freaking woman shrieking “benny!” every 30 seconds was both annoying and unconvincing, the monsters looked awful, some pretty cliché/predictable plot points, and i love bradley walsh but acting is definitely not his forte. did enjoy james buckley’s appearance though!
This is the worst episode since Love & Monsters. Chinball achieved the impossible.
I don't think this version of Doctor Who will ever work, if they don't get rid of the character of Ryan. Terrible acting, but might be the way he's written, and uninteresting stories.
I enjoyed it as much as i can with the new doctor. I mean, I really could have done without the many lectures and climate change being thrown in my face yet again! I know the doctor is all about learning a lesson and dealing with the choices you make, but to make it so blatantly obvious. Please keep your real world issues out of my Sci-Fi, thank you.
This story had a weird execution… I don’t know. It’s not bad, it just feels like the first half of a two parter story. It’s a great twist for a potential future for humanity with a hopeful end? Why didn’t they go back with the TARDIS to save the rest of the people? They could’ve used the cube thing with the TARDIS circuits to go back and save them. Why did Benni want to get shot so badly? Its own third act leaves a lot of questions.
and where back again with shitty climate greta woke episodes
I take back what I've said about this season, if this is the kind of crap to expect from this season, I'm not watching Doctor Who anymore.
Doctor Who is supposed to be about saving planets, not lectures on today's politics. While I do agree with the premise that we need to do something NOW, that doesn't mean that I want to be preached at while trying to be ENTERTAINED! Politics have their place, please leave the preaching of politics to the news and god forbid, "alternative media" (it's all just someone's opinion on what they saw on their favorite news network)...
Moral standards? Sure, that's classic Who. But show the moral standards from a more nuanced and far less preaching-to-the-choir blatant political rant.
The beginning started out fine, up until the "this is earth in the future" when that directly contradicts the conditions of earth throughout time in the rest of the Doctor Who series. THOSE inconsistencies piss me off.
What about Rose Tyler watching the world blow up? There was no mention of the Dregs, no mention that it was climate change that caused them to leave, nothing. And that's what makes Doctor Who DOCTOR WHO! The unanswered questions! I mean come on now, who is the Doctor? What's his/her name? Definitive answers to earth shattering questions has never been Doctor Who, they're left to the viewer's imagination or drawn out over the season but this episode ruined that opportunity. 1 star from me.
ITT people complaining about being lectured to. It's clear you either haven't seen or paid attention when people were equally lectured to in Classic Who or previous seasons. People complained back then too, there's no good solution for that, I don't see a conservative Doctor Who happening that would please these people.
maybe if people would stop being in denial we wouldn't be in the situation we are in and wouldn't need telling about how were trashing the planet.
Potentially one of the strangest episodes of Doctor Who ever. I genuinely laughed a lot during the first 10 minutes. Then my enjoyment turned more and more towards... perplexity.
Very disappointed in this episode. Usually Dr. Who, is great. This one was a non stop lecture on climate change. Someone is really pushing the climate change cult religion these days. Trying to scare people into supporting it. I have a feeling someone got paid an awful lot of money to include this theme in Dr. Who. Makes you wonder, just who's trying to manipulate things - and just what exactly do they gain from it.
Probably the absolute WORST episode of Dr. Who, ever made. Its sad, the new doctor has so much potential - if not for terrible, terrible scripts.
Bah.
The “obligatory ode to climate change fear mongering” that pretty much all shows make an episode about.
Wish Dr Who was immune to this but unfortunately it’s not. Watched the whole series again, and the last dr IMO is meh, hopefully it gets better next season but I doubt it considering the trajectory it’s going.
Another weak episode. The climate change message is too loud, so the woke intentions surpass the storytelling and the result is not good.
oh i wish a lecture from the doctor was sufficient to solve global warming
Terrible, pointless, waste of time episode. No story progression. Terrible writing. Horrible acting. Annoying characters (the doctor, sidekicks, the old lady, etc.). Complete waste of time (an hour of my life I will never get back). You can skip this episode.
OMG the new doctor is annoying as fuck...I hope she becomes less annoying & the writers improve her character.
It’s funny how many people are triggered because the writers mention climate change. Great episode, the only thing that bothered me was that Yaz didn’t seem to care about the Doctor as usual. Her oxygen was at 1% and she still kept talking to her like nothing’s changed an when the Doctor was missing she showed no reaction. That annoyed me, I hope it gets better in future episodes.
this Dr who was bobo , unnecessary thicccc English accent omg cringe!!!!
make this doc drop his dick down and maybe there is room for improvement? idk??

I do believe in climate change and its imminent dangers to the future of humanity and the world, but this episode found the clumsiest and most blatant way ever to adress that topic.
