This is SO much better than the original 'Morse'.
"Morse" seems pompous and so flawed in the original series.
Here you see his origins (obviously), his struggles within and out of the service he joined, the rebuttal of ways to excel (the belief that fact and honesty go beyond the "echelons" of the job"). What isn't explained is his lack of companionship. Morse and "Miss Thursday" seem destined to be; but not to be. That's the most enigmatic* thing about "Morse".
* I consider "enigmatic" complimentary. Others may deem it as "fucking Infuriating"
Endevavur is on my "Top-5" series of all times. I strongly recommend it to the ones who love English detective series. I wanted to comment after I finished the final season.
This is one of those near perfect shows, nearly every episode was top notch for me.
