Ergo Proxy 2006

This was the first Anime I've ever watched, as I decided to give the whole shindig a chance. I've definitely got off on the right foot as I absolutely loved this. The post-apocalyptic preserve mankind sci-fi setting is a great one. The character development of Vincent (whom you might call the protagonist) is unlike I have ever seen in any movie or TV-show. The story line is a heavily emotionally and psychologically entangled journey and it often left an impression after watching an episode.

"I think, therefore I am".

For as many things the show did right, there are also some issues that plague it which took away from my overall enjoyment of the show. The biggest one for me were some of the later episodes. We take detours from the main story with the excuse that some proxy is causing it. These episodes hardly offer anything new to the story or are an excuse for some forgotten exposition. In addition to that there is no start or end to it. The following episodes are like these things never happend. The second big thing is it's sometime borderline pretentious philosophical dialogue. Some of these work as a oneliners but that's about it. It's in the same way like everyone on CSI is a smartass about something on demand. Not only that, most people and many locations have been given a name from mythology.
Still, the art is good and there are some fine episodes in there. And let's not forget the best token loli I've seen, Pino :). If you're looking for an action show with the anime Amy Lee shown on the fanart you might want to stay away from it.

I found a page explaining this show and now I think it's the best I've ever seen.

An amazing show overall with a few incredible episodes that make up for quite some extremely dull or overly abstract ones.

I enjoyed a maximum of 2 episodes out of 23. Weirdly episode 16 was the best one for me, where essentially nothing happens in terms of story line, but plenty in terms of character development. The story line is mediocre at best, unannounced flashbacks or complete disconnection between episodes which leaves you guessing what the hell is going on for most of the episode, unrelatable and unlikable characters, futile plot twists... Before going into the show I've read somewhere that the first 3 episodes were slow-paced and only after those does it pick up, but for me I felt that nothing was really happening until ep. 10 (half the shows runtime). I wasn't expecting an action packed or fast-paced show, but in the end I found this show a waste of time due to the poor writing and direction. Btw, the show's environment and animation style is completely up my alley, but everything else (development-wise) isn't.
