Interestingly the recent trend of dangerous online communities are further from the cult definition as they are mostly missing the main charismatic leader characteristic, and it is harder to see who profits from them.
Too bad this was a little early to also take into account the next step, where these cult alternate realities get directly on news networks and by politicians up to the president of the United States. Would be very interesting to have a QAnon explained.
