Season 1 of Fargo is high-quality television. What a shame the finale was so disappointing and poor. Otherwise, the opening of the pilot to the conclusion of the penultimate will grip you in and immerse you into its well-crafted world of storytelling.

Average Episode Rating: 7.7 (Great)

Delightfully twisted and horrifically violent, but outside of a few moment s of brilliance I found it too unfocused. It never made me laugh, but Martin Freeman in particular was fantastic. Major pacing issues.

Just watched first three episodes today. Brilliant writing. I was running around online a while back looking for what to watch next after Breaking Bad 'coz seriously I was so high on it (pun intended) that a run of the mill show wasn't gonna cut it. It's such a shame nobody mentioned Fargo. I think I've run into a gem!

this season was awesome! it does have its small imperfections in the form of way too many coincidences, people being at the right time and place, and characters doing kinda stupid shit like in the last episode why bother dragging the bodies of the fbi agents instead of going after lester? also I feel bad for poor linda, she was the sweetest girl in the entire show, why do her dirty like that, lester? ... sadly I have a strong suspicion it only goes downhill from here with the rest of the seasons...

An absolutely delightful season. The comedy is great, the characters are extremely rich and multifaceted, and the story is thematically thoughtful. Malvo, Nygaard, and Solverson are all wonderful characters and fantastically acted, and the discussion of human nature is very well done. One of my favorite seasons of TV, I really hope the subsequent seasons keep up this quality.

I still really like it on rewatch. But in comparison to the movie, I think stretching out that style of story to 10 hrs makes it feel more nihilistic and gruesome than i wanted. And I'm not a huge fan of how some of the female side characters get treated as disposable or just stupid. I guess you could say that's a factor of the show focusing on this very shitty man, but it was still uncomfortable.

That aside, it's really interesting how this first season interprets what Fargo is about. There's overt connections to the plot of the movie, a pregnant cop, quirky midwestern affects covering up heinous violence - but the tone feels different, there's a focus on conspiracy and building up a Mastermind criminal. rather than flailing incompetence driven by pettiness or greed it's The Face of True Evil and i feel like that's actually a lot less interesting, thematically, tho i understand it was somewhat necessary in order to stretch a story across 10 hours, and it's mostly fun throughout.

The Coen brothers Academy Award winning film Fargo is adapted into a black comedy–crime drama television series. In Season one a mild mannered insurance agent named Lester Nygaard murders his wife after a chance meeting with a hitman who’s on his way to a job, but before long both the police and the mob are on their trails. Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Allison Tolman, and Colin Hanks, the series features an impressive cast. And the show does an extraordinary job at capturing the tone and spirit of the original film, and includes a number of homages and callbacks. The writing is also quite good, particularly the dialog, which has a real Coen brothers flare to it. Incredibly smart and full of thrills, Fargo proves to be a worthy successor to the film and delivers an extraordinary first season.

Boring people with boring stories?

Good show but not enough character development (Martin Freeman has good character development tho).

I'm on my second watch of season 1, this time with the wife. Equally amazing as the first time.

Billy Bob Thornton was absolutely amazing, the best character in this season for sure! But Martin Freeman´s character was so annoying I hated Lester so much! Better than movie for me, more bloody scenes and much funnier.

The downfall of the first season is the way too tryhard edgy/cool Malvo. Lester's personal bits are fantastic but not enough to save the disjointed mess.
