A Morton's fork is a type of false dilemma in which contradictory observations lead to the same conclusion. It is said to have originated with the collecting of taxes by John Morton.
Archbishop of Canterbury John Morton in the late fifteenth century held that someone living modestly must be saving money and, therefore, could afford taxes, whereas someone living extravagantly obviously was rich and, therefore, could afford taxes.
Unexpected end. Superb. Great Series.
A truly fantastic series that had a certain oddness that reminded me of Twin Peaks. Epsiode 9 even had a reference to Twin Peaks which made me smile. An amazing series with a fantastic script and performances - Bill Bob Thornton especially. Looking forward to watching season 2.
"Morton's Fork" is a disappointing finale of this first season of Fargo. While there were some genuinely good moments scattered within this episode, I can't help but feel let down by how predictably it all played out. The scene between Malvo and Lester was particularly disappointing. I knew straight away what Lester was doing, though the bear trap was a nice touch. While I'm not upset that Malvo died, I felt his demise was underwhelming and contrived. The whole exchange with him and Gus fell flat for me, and I'm disappointed that Molly's arc ultimately didn't amount to much, seeing as she didn't catch Malvo or Lester. Also, why doesn't Gus face any repercussions for what he did? He still murdered an unarmed man in cold blood, evil as he may be. Instead, he will receive an award for bravery. What a joke. Certain character arcs are also left unresolved (Chaz, Mr Wrench, The Hess family, even Stavros?)
Overall, a surprisingly poor conclusion to a great season of television.
Amazing finale. I feel empathy for lester though so it's kinda of sad.
Great episode I love all the foreshadowing they did all season that I caught on the second viewing. I really liked the last shot where they were just watching tv as a family like nothing happened.
Lester Nygaard you deserved it so much ! In fact you deserved more...
This was a great season! So different from anything I’ve watched and cannot wait to sink my teeth into season 2!
It was action-packed, dramatic and hilarious, the writers really made the characters so dynamic and yet predictable at the same time which was a really fun watch tbh
I would've preferred a more satisfying ending for sticking with the slow buildup of the story. At least one of them got what they deserved, the other was off way too easy.
Amazing series. Great acting, make up, effects, score, directing. Awesome story too! This is my second time watching, still as good as I remember. Now in to series 2 again! Ready for season 3 in April.
I loved this first season of the show. I think it's funny how 'Murphy's Law stikes everyone except the authoritise. LOL :)

Not the ending I thought I would see.
