“The Gift of the Magi” is a fairly decent episode. While the whole premise of how Peggy and Ed ended up in this predicament has been far-fetched and contrived from the get-go, I can appreciate the level of tension in this episode. However, Kirsten Dunst’s performance is still jarring. On top of that, poor editing choices continue to plague this season, though not as prominently as in previous episodes.

Overall, an improving season, but not a good one so far.

"The Gift of the Magi is a short story, written by O. Henry (a pen name for William Sydney Porter), about a young husband and wife and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other with very little money. The story ends with the narrator comparing the sacrificial gifts of love with those of the Biblical Magi."
