In the witches' tradition, when a practitioner turns 15, they must become independent and leave their home to study witchcraft. Makoto Kowata is one such apprentice witch who leaves her parents' home in Yokohama in pursuit of knowledge and training. Along with her companion Chito, a black cat familiar, they embark on a journey to Aomori, a region favored by witches due to its abundance of nature and affinity with magic. They begin their new life by living with Makoto's second cousins, Kei Kuramoto and his little sister Chinatsu. While Makoto may seem to be attending high school like any other teenager, her whimsical and eccentric involvement with witchcraft sets her apart from others her age. From her encounter with an anthropomorphic dog fortune teller to the peculiar magic training she receives from her older sister Akane, Makoto's peaceful everyday life is filled with the idiosyncrasies of witchcraft that she shares with her friends and family.

Makoto wants to raise her magic levels so she decided to prepare some tea. She prepared plantain (good with your stomach), dandelion (helps fatigue) and horsetail (has a detoxifying effect) thinking that boosting her health will also boost her powers.

It's April Fool's Day! Chinatsu and Makoto talked about surprising things that happened to them recently. Makoto talked about a white kitten she saw under his uncle's truck, but...!

Makoto tries to find where the kitchen is, and is impressed when Chito knows where it is. Chito toured her around before they reached their destination. And when they get there...

Makoto and Chinatsu celebrate Akane's birthday. However, the guest of honor is not present as she is traveling on São Tomé and Príncipe. Chinatsu misheard it being Saotome pudding. Chito became Akane's replacement, then Saotome pudding's replacement as what Chinatsu would say. Just when both of them blew the candles, Akane appears.

Akane teaches Makoto a new magic spell: notebook locking! Akane instructs Makoto to write 13 digits on an eraser and placing it face-down at the center of the notebook. Then, she casts a spell on it. When she removed the eraser, the numbers are gone! Now the notebook is locked. However, Makoto feels like she is going to forget the numbers!

Chinatsu is having some difficulty in studying kanji, especially the radical in the Japanese character "walk." Akane helps her out by connecting the radical with a witch in a broom. As Chinatsu asks her more difficult kanji, Akane quits and rolls around as she couldn't think of any picture to connect.

Makoto is cleaning her broom with Chito. While at it, she thought of building a beauty salon exclusive for brooms (which she thinks might be a big hit for witches)!

Makoto and Chito introduce the upcoming first volume of the Flying Witch Blu-ray and DVD release!
