Watched the US version first and so far prefer the original love it
New word of the day: Moroccan Tea Party! :joy::joy::joy:
this is so much better than the US version. the actors are a cut above.
I started watching the US remake before I knew it was a UK show or I would have started with this. By the time I realised I had invested some time into the remake and figured I see out the first season. With that I got used to the characters in the US version and am having to adjust to the original characters. I don't think the the budget is quite as high for this one so some of the costumes are a little cheaper such as the caveman (whatever his name is)
The characters aren't exactly translated and some character traits have been given to different people.
American - UK
Hetty - Fanny (both the lady of house)
Both an exaggerated cliche but Fanny is played to be silly.
Julian (politician) - Trevor (90's stockbroker bro)
Both not wearing pants but their characters are quite different apart from being the most recently deceased. Trevor is a nicer guy and Julian is quite sinister as well as being played in a slightly silly comedic way.
Robin (Caveman) - Thorfinn (viking)
Robin surprised me, he is likeable but his costuming is the worst of all of them and as a caveman it's hard to be believable. Thorfinn is quite over the top and his constant gesticulating is a little monotonous. It seems that Robin is a lot smarter.
Patrick - Pete (both scout leaders)
Pretty much the same character unless they reveal something later in the series.
Alberta (Jazz singer) - Kitty (Not sure what her deal is)
The same only in rough era and basic racial description. Alberta grew on me through the season but Kitty is much prettier. Some storylines in the US version assumed that everyone thought Alberta was gorgeous and I'm wondering if those elements were taken directly from Kitty's storylines.
The Captain (WWII - Isaac (revolutionary war officer)
Isaac is one of my favourites from the US cast. As a closeted homosexual from the military he resembles The Captain but as a pretentious man of culture he perhaps resembles Thomas a bit.
Sasappis (native American storyteller) - Thomas (poet)
They are both storytellers in their own ways but beyond that they don't seem to share a lot in common yet.
Willow (hippy) - Mary (witch trial maid or something)
these two don't seem to share a lot in common but they are the only two left. I'm guessing that Mary is a bit out there and her witch trial history might have some correlation with Willows cult/comune backstory.
Can't believe the actress playing Fanny was only like 38 when this started. They really made her look much older.
I know I'm reading into it way too much, but it really annoys me that they can't touch things but can apparently sit and sleep on couches and beds fine.
It's a light comedy show and I spent the entire episode coming up with explanations for this one paltry bit that's annoying me to no end.
Omg this was good! Tho a couple of scenes did actually scared me, the close up to the creepy girl and all the basement ghosts! And the ghost who pushed her was so mean!
I am so glad to start watching this show. British comedy at its finest. The premise is a house that is inhabited by ghosts and zombies suddenly is inherited by a couple. The ghosts try to drive the couple out but she suddenly confronts the ghosts and the story goes on. I love the caveman ghost. They are all funny in their own way which lends to the likability of this show. Can’t wait to watch more tonight. Highly recommended!
