This show is one of my absolute favourites. Mafia without classy surroundings. It's urban, it's gritty, it's sheer class. Absolutely brilliantly acted, intense. If you like movies such as Scarface, Godfather, Goodfellas... all things mafia. You have to check this out. Modern mafia the way it most likely goes down (or at least far more believable). I love it. 10/10. Absolutely every season has been amazing. It can leave a slightly unpleasant aftertaste after some episodes but there is depth and amazingness to be found here. It does move slow at times but hang in there and you will be massively rewarded! If you're one of those people that doesn't like subtitles then you are sorely missing out on one of the best mafia tv shows ever made.
One of the best series about mafia or even about crime. The last season went a little off the rails, with some pretty stupid actions of the characters and also with characters with unconvincing motivations, but overall a great series, with great actors, editing, photography, soundtrack, well, a great production.
One of the most amazing shows on television. Nonstop action. This is the type of mafia that makes other mafias look like The Mickey Mouse Club, brutality times ten—just the way I like it.

wow, s05 is really bad. that, and the movie, is killing something that i otherwise would think of as one of the very very best tv i've ever watched.
One of the best crime series ever: the story is really well written, with a delicate balance between reality and fiction, some things are realistic and inspired from reality, like the management of the turfs, although the characters, even if slightly inspired by reality, are totally fictious. Characters are strong and believable, and all the actors did a terrific job, even if in the end Gennaro and Ciro are the two who stand out the most, it is still full of interesting characters and excellent actors.
Photography and direction are exceptional, lots of scenes are visual masterpieces, even if environments are mostly pure degradation, direction always find a way to create a scene that narrates extensively, and with aestethical balance. Also is interesting how the light works in this series: when you follow a "camorrista" the scene is mostly dark, gloomy, asphyxiating, while when it follows someone who is not an affiliate, there is instead light and open spaces.
For instance, if you follow Gennaro, his scenes are light only when he is younger and still uncorrupted, or when he tries to become a legitimate businessman, otherwise he is always in the dark.
Another big quality of Gomorra is how it narrates about camorra. All the negative main characters are not heroes, neither monsters (in the most extreme meaning), and despite characters are fascinating and sometimes you can empathyze with them, there is no absolution at all. The story shows that even if from the character's point of view the war, the violence, the fight for the power seems the most important thing in the world, in the end it is all meaningless, you'll be just another name in a crime article on the local newspaper. After all the struggle to find some recognition, everybody will forget you, and you'll count nothing for the real world.
Lastly, special mention to all the soundtrack, with the exceptional work of Mokadelic, always on spot in emphasizing the moments and SO beautiful, and a curated selection of the new wave of neapolitan rap (like the masterpiece of 'Nto & Lucariello in the closing credits) and undervalued artists like Franco Ricciardi.
Really a masterpiece, and definitely a must watch!
Non amo molto parlare di mafia, nè sentirne parlare. Preferisco tapparmi occhi e orecchie, come fanno in molti, come fa l'italia; ma devo ammettere che dal primo episodio Gomorra ti fa stare attaccato allo schermo. Molto interessanti le dinamiche tra i personaggi e le loro trasformazioni durante le serie: Genny è il primo che compie questa trasformazione, diventando da riluttante bamboccione a capomafia in pochissimo tempo. Ma anche il personaggio di Ciro compie un profondo cambiamento caratteriale alla fine della seconda e all'inizio della terza stagione.
Non parliamo poi di Patrizia, che da anonima commessa diventa la figura femminile prevalente e più ambigua nei suoi scopi di tutto il telefilm.
Non so che dire, grazie per avermi fatto appassionare a temi a cui non riesco ad avvicinarmi facilmente.

For anyone looking for a criminal / gangster / mafia serie then i can strongly recommend this one!
For me, this series has similar curve to Game of Thrones, slower early to mid season and the last episodes it wraps everything but still gives you the ideas that there could be a next season.
This also reminds me of Breaking Bad with developing characters, their personality simply evolves with time, feels like looking at two different characters from s01e01 compared to s02e12.
This has become one of my favorite series and simply cannot wait for season 3 and 4!!!

I really enjoyed this show and it was definitely worth the watch. There are some things that could have been better, but all around it was a great show.
Last season was awful, I couldn't stand mistral acting but it's still an amazing tv series. The fifth season is only worth to watch to see the ending scene. Overall 9/10 for the entire show.

Starting season 1 on 51220 after finishing season 1 of blacklist series. I watch series season by season. So, after watching one season, i will move to another series.
I heard gomorra while watching series "sopranos". I saw it was a similar show, so i saved for future and now i am starting.
I dont usually watch series in non-english languages. It will be hard but i hope i can enjoy.

I have watched 3 seasons and so far, although it is slow paced at time, this is a great show about the mafia in Naples. The intrigues is almost perfectly choregraphed, and follows a few main characters that have their ups and downs in this world, which is for ever changing. The first season introduce you to the Savastano family, the second chronicles the desegregation of the world around the main characters and the third the rise of a new generation of bosses. It all ties up very nicely together.

This is by far one of the best tv shows in its genre. It doesn't romanticise these criminals nor does it provide excuses for their actions. It's just the brutal reality of their lives that everything they've worked for will end in a violent death. Sure you might root for Ciro or Genny but this show doesn't shy away from showing just how psychotic these gangsters are and all the suffering they cause.
Don't let the subtitles put you off, this is one of the best tv shows you can ever watch.
