Great show loved it
I had really high expectations for this show and I must say it delivered in every sense. Everything is perfectly done from writing, cinematography to acting. Especially casting is spectacular! For me Michael Sheen stands out the most, his performance as Aziraphale is absolutely adorable. The show is very true to the book as well, so if you're a fan, you will definitely love this.
10/10 from me. I highly recommend it for binge-watching!
Excellent adaptation of great book. Many talented actors and stunning cinematography. Terry Pratchett would be proud :)
I absolutely loved the book way back when, and this adaption is on par with the book...almost perfect you might say. Stunning cinematography and brilliant acting, especially by Michael Sheen and David Tennant, make Good Omens a clear candidate for Series of the Year. Highly recommended watch!!!!
Too woke, season 2 lack of everything that got season 1.
I can't understand how people can rate this as a good show. It's like they have never seen a good show.
The story was a good idea, but it was really bad executed and EXTREMELY boring.
The only good thing was the relationship between Aziraphale and Crowley.
What a great show this is.
I am distraught, sobbing, screaming, crying, sliding down the walls, throwing my phone, going crazy
Okay, I saw this advertised for a while and I really didn't think I'd be that into it - just didn't seem like my thing! But I love Tennant and I had some free time so I started it and omg I had to binge watch the entire thing immediately! This is now one of my absolute favourites! I completely adore Aziraphale for a start.. and his friendship with Crowley, ah, it's so great to watch. The whole moody, dark but not-so-evil character contrasted against the soft, kind-hearted, pure character is the BEST trope and I will fight anyone that says otherwise. I really, really hope they decide to bring this show back despite it being a mini-series and there being no more source material.. as of yet!
Honestly my only downside is that Aziraphale and Crowley didn't get together at the end! All i wanted was a hand-hold or something!!! I really felt it was building up to it the whole season.. so I hope we get another where they can explore it. I'm really just grateful to this show because it's been a hot minute since i've been this invested in a show, fictional character or a pairing. Life got in the way. It feels great to be getting so much joy out of a show again!! And I'm now wondering why I've never taken more notice of Michael Sheen - his acting is insane!
(PLS I NEED A S2)
Edit (07/21) OH MY GOD OKAY IT'S HAPPENING EVERYBODY STAY CALM
I have't read (or knew) of Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman until just now (moment of writing this); but at every point it felt like it was written by them. From the first "narrator" quip, it had that flare. I'm saving and savoring Sir T.P books and take them slooow.
The only irk i have with the visualization is that Death did not have the azure spark from the deep beyond in his eye sockets. The bike however was spot on and made me say out loud: "That cannot NOT be Death and his bike from Soul Music! "
I rly don't think this is a TV Show in the traditional sense, but more like a 5:30-ish hours long movie and i'm glad for it existing.
to be honest - first time saying this - better than the book.
Neil Gaiman just confirmed: There will be MORE GOOD OMENS!! Good Omens is returning for Season 2
Just a wild six episode ride. 100% worth the one to two day binge.
Very good first season but terrible second.
Loved season 1!
Season 2 not so much....
i can't believe this show came out in 2019 its so 2015 tumblr
SEASON 2 HAPPENS JULY 28TH!!
Season 2 streams July 28, 2023!!!
Really enjoyed this show. Quirky, witty and strange all rolled up in to a very entertaining series.
I'm so happy Good Omens is coming back. Good times ahead!
Not for me. I'm evidently in the minority, but I found this a disappointing watch; even after only two episodes.
First off, it's nothing to do with the (amusing) religion outcry about 'Good Omens'. If anything, I applaud them for having fun with it. However, I found everything about it from a television show perspective a chore to sit through. I like Michael Sheen and David Tennant as actors, especially the former, but neither of them fit their roles here in my opinion. Sheen feels like he's holding back, while Tennant's performance comes across as a Bill Nighy impersonation at times - a partly tongue-in-cheek comment, but kinda not. I didn't sense any chemistry between the two, either.
The special effects are average, some of the enhanced (?) backgrounds look weak. The humour is alright, if forced. I also found the show remains on scenes for too long. For example, there's one involving three babies which they build as some sort of quick, smart, sleight of hand thing but choose to play it out in such a drawn out and obvious manner - it needed to be much more snappier, which sums up my overall feelings for this show.
As noted at the top, I am evidently in a small crowd in terms of my thoughts for this. Each to their own, I respect everyone's opinions, but I honestly didn't connect to it unfortunately. Who knows, perhaps I'll give it another chance later in life but I doubt it.
I really wanted to enjoy this, but aside from the two main characters everyone else was either poorly acted or one dimensional. The plot didn't go anywhere new and I struggled to stay awake through this.
It's a real shame, as the first episode was interesting enough to keep me watching until the end.
Eh, it's ok. Not a good show by any means. Not a particularly bad show. The writing is a bit all over the place. Keep it like a novel, pacing slowing and speeding at random, nobody's motivations are very concrete. The narrator is both unnecessarily annoying and long-winded. Yet she (they?) is necessary for exposition not written well (or not written at all) into the dialogue. What is John Hamm's character even here for? Does he have a purpose? It's ok. If you liked Preacher, or anything David Tennant has done, you might enjoy this. I tolerated it.
Actually better than the book, especially the end. The chemistry between the leads couldn't be better. I would watch again (once I've sort of forgotten enough of it to make it worth re-watching).
Beside the dialogue between the blond, fluffy-haired angel Aziraphale and the snake-eyed devil’s demon Crowley. there's nothing interesting, and the plot is obvious, especially with those prophecies.
I decided to watch it a second time almost a year later on lockdown. Even though I knew it already, I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time. I'm really hoping for a season 2, but only if they can be as creative as they were with the first. Just adorable. Sheen and Tennant play off each other fabulously and the secondary story lines keep it moving and engaging. Don't miss this one.
Near perfect adaptation of the book. Only wish it were longer (though it need not be), but as with most British shows, sometimes 6 episodes is just the right amount.
I'm a fan of Terry Pratchett's books, including this collaboration with Neil Gaiman. Unfortunately, this is yet another adaptation that demonstrates that Pratchett's talent for writing doesn't easily translate to the screen. They try their best -- yet again, by having a narrator read out key bits of exposition lifted from the book -- but no matter the talent involved here, the jokes just never land as potently as they did in the book. Key moments, like the decision to call his dog, "Dog" fail to earn a smirk from me. The scene of Crowley's plants shivering in fear is not only a distraction from the plot of the show, but it also feels like something out of a children's cartoon.
If you enjoy Terry Pratchett's work, then just read the book.
AMAZING EVERYONE PLEASE WATCH THIS SHOW
I made it to episode two and have no intentions of stopping. This is a delightful show. I started finding similarities in other British shows and movies. first I thought this might be the same writer as "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" but I was pleased to find out this is a adaption if Terry Pratchett. I stumbled upon a TV movie of "the colour of magic" and was pleasantly surprised. I hope other Pratchett work makes it to the big screen or at least my 65in one.
I've not read the book, but I definitely need to go check it out now. I absolutely loved the series, my only gripe being that there just weren't enough episodes!
The best book adaptation to exist with one of the absolute best casting in the history of the world and quite possibly one of the best recent tv series of late. I thank The Almighty every day that Neil puts so much care into the adaptations of his work. It truly shows through in Good Omens
Season 1 was great but this new season 2 is just an Amazon exercise in DEI, terrible disappointment.
I def enjoyed it. Was funny and I enjoyed the loose interpretation of revelations. I'm sure if this was on regular TV there'd be tons of people especially Christians trying to ban this show. Overall I believe it was gd enough for me to invest time in a season 2 if they have another one.
Started out good, but slowly the woke BS took over. You go woke you go broke.
Really loved this show! It's fun and original. I heard great things about it beforehand and my expectations where certainly met. Michael Sheen AND David Tennant are both incredible actors and they brought such a fun dynamic to their characters. Everything just worked for me. Beginning to end, great show.
Effects, music, acting, dialogues, stage transitions and intro were very nice. A beautiful book adaptation
Loved it!! Didn't stop smiling almost the entire time. Faithful adaptation, delightful casting, perfect scores and visuals. Even if you haven't read the book, and you should, you will like the show. Cheers to all the people that put all this hard work! And to Gaiman and Pratchett!
I just finished the first season. And I have to admit that I kept going because everybody kept telling me this is an amazing series. I can get the appeal, but for me it just wasn’t it.
I thought the names were clever and it had some funny moments. But it didn’t make me curious enough to want to keep watching, I couldn’t care much for what would happen next.
So, for me, not continuing to the 2nd season.
personally I prefer the first seaoan
I hate that they made Aziraphale and Crowley gay, Neil Gaiman is feeding too much into his name at this point
Season one was good. Season two has gone woke and destroyed the whole principle of the show.
It's OK, but I'm still not sure if I'm into for three second season. Putting it on hold for now.
Season 2 streams July 28, 2023!!!
Great show! Loved it from the beginning to the end. Quite a good adaptation of the book and nicely chosen actors. At first, it might be a little confusing because of the complicated plot but you catch up to the story eventually.
Yay! Season two is happening!
I realy loved the first season! Love god vs evil, alfa and omega. And the playfulness around that god can be evil and evil can be good. And they can not exist without eachother .
Neil Gaiman’s “Good Omens” is clearly channeling Douglas Adams and Monty Python, and even though the results might not be as funny or visionary, it’s still a pretty solid show. It’s not the first time irreverent comedy is used to debunk religion and mankind’s warmongering tendencies, but it’s hardly as sharp and inventive as it is here.
The only problem might be the plot, which didn’t make much sense and felt a little underwhelming if considered the premise. The continuous digressions might have made the pacing a little off, but it’s probably the first time the digressions are actually more entertaining than the main thing. The chemistry between Michael Sheen and David Tennant is so good that you just want to watch them interact the whole time. I particularly liked the bits that retell moments in history and episodes from the Bible in the show’s own cheeky and sarcastic way. In the end, who really cared about the Antichrist and his “Stranger Things” friends?
The series has been renewed in 2023 for a second season that focuses exclusively on the relationship between the two protagonists, diluting a modest storyline in a rather confusing way. Although there is no novel to adapt, original writer Gaiman is still writing all the episodes. Once again, the show emphasizes the inability of religion to understand both the physiological needs and the emotional mechanisms of human beings, revealing a kind of bureaucracy that is contradictory and disconnected from reality both in Heaven and Hell. Despite the uncertainties and the slightly repetitive humor, the viewing experience remains overall enjoyable.
When starting from such good material, the most difficult thing is to not fuck it up. And boy did they not !
First the whole thing looks amazing. The style, the costumes, the whole feel of the show is perfect. FX are nice and natural. Great work on the opening too.
Story and characters are pretty close to what I remember from the book, incredibly diverse and original. An angel and a demon, becoming friends over millennia through their common love of life on Earth among humans, with their very different styles, because of that they go against the wishes of their more war inclined respective sides to try to stop the end of the world.
Clearly they are the most detailed characters and the supporting cast lacks a little depth in comparison, the last witchfinder excepted, but they are still nice, notably for the updated description of the four horsemen.
The whole story, on the great lines and in the so many tiny details is so stupid yet so smart, it would be impossible to list all the glorious plot ideas and tiny jokes that are present from beginning to end. Close to the writers' style. Pratchett's jokes are hard to translate to screen, yet they make most of it work.
Michael Sheen is pretty good, but David Tennant is just incredible. Also John Hamm's Gabriel is delightfully comical and so far from what we're used to see from him. Narration from Francess McDormand is just on point. A little negative point on the boy playing Adam that you just want to slap from the first time you see him.
Constant coherent on the nose Queen soundtrack is a cool detail.
Only disappointing point of the story is the final confrontation, supposed to be the climax and yet the most bland, childish part. But hey, children involved, so... But the clever swap trick after that makes up for it.
Also the decision to burn the prophecies, seriously ? If only for herself, she saw that entirely because of that she was able to stop a nuclear apocalypse. Sure, it might have been erased by Adam anyway, but she doesn't know that. But the book also lead Aziraphale and Crowley to help Adam, so that's what really saved the world. There might be stuff equally as important in there, how can you just burn it ? It also make no sense on another level, because given the quality of the prophecies, Agnes would have known that they would end up burned and wouldn't have bothered writing and sending them.
Having loved the adaptation of the book; I adored what each actor bought to their rules. However for me it was David Tennant and Michael Sheen whom shines out for me in this drama as they truly became their roles. The story was very enjoyable and the changes from its source material made complete sense.
Michael Sheen and David Tennant are of course great and adorable as usual, every scene with them in it is lovely. And the rest of the cast is also quite good. Overall, it's an enjoyable show but I think it lacks something, I got the impression that Neil Gaiman wasn't particularly able (or interested) in really adapting it for the screen. Much of the humour feels like something that would work better on the page and it lacks the timing or the structure it would need to be great in a visual medium. It really feels very "pratchety", but again, I had the impression that it would worked best if you're reading it in a novel and you let it breath. That being said, again, it's quite enjoyable and the last two episodes are really engaging.
Watch it solely for Tennant and Sheen. If the show was just their characters interacting and nothing else I would give it a ten.
This reminded me of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for some similar themes and quirkiness. The dynamics between Aziraphale and Crowley are lovely, although as a minor quibble I thought the other characters' arcs weren't as strong.
It's consistently funny in offbeat, unexpected places & I love the relationship between the main two and the focus the show puts on them. The Adam stuff felt a bit flat, tho. It wasn't really clear to me why his turn happened & the kid stuff in general was the least developed despite being kinda the driving force of the plot. The horsemen stuff, similarly felt like the show kept telling me it was important but I never really felt that it was anything other than a chance to insert some more jokes & commentary.
Tenant and Sheen of course form a great pair, and are fun to watch, but the plot is of course a bit ridiculous and ultimately pointless with no real explanation or consequence.
the whole show is based on the concept of free will being the greatest part of being human, and somehow this saves humanity, against all odds. i simply love it
Loved it very much! Like a perfect dinner. So many flavours; surprising every time. Never disappointing <3
Three times I've begun Neil Gaiman projects (LUCIFER, AMERCAN GODS, GOOD OMENS) with interest in their theological premise and three times I've left them in disgust. His blasphemy sickened me. Now, I do know that Neil Gaiman is a talented and awarded writer. I also believe that he has been quite immersive in his study of his subject matter. And, I was always glad to see his name on a Doctor Who episode. But his recent treatment of Christian themes is cavalier (which I can overlook as an outsider's perspective) but in these productions he seems almost vindictive in his portrayal of Christian divinity. He is not only disrespectful but he is obscene in his portrayals. Is he that mad at Christians or at God? It feels personal. I abandoned both LUCIFER and AMERICAN GODS, because God and Jesus are personal to me and I was offended by his contempt, but, I finished this first season of Good Omens (partly because I'm a fan of David Tennant), but I can't say I liked anything about the series. It's a 6 (poor) out of 10 for me. I will watch other projects of Neil Gaiman because I admire his imagination, but not on these themes. I hope he hasn't fallen into this black hole of inspiration. [Fantasy Comedy]. Available on Amazon Prime.
two main characters look like Charlie and Alan from two and a half men
Really smart and funny show :joy::thumbsup::v:
Really happy to see my first and favorite book to be on the screen

I read this book ages ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, this TV adaptation by Amazon has been just as enjoyable. I was really reassured when I saw Neil Gaiman was involved in writing this script. It more or less holds very well to the original book. The pacing feels good too, not too rushed, but it doesn't drag on either.
The casting is SPOT ON! I will admit I'm a fan of David Tennant anyway, but his portrayal of Crowley is just fantastic. All of them really fit their roles to a T.
I also appreciate the use of a narrator, I think that was a great stylistic choice. It not only helps it hold to the book more closely but is also a good way to add a little exposition where some might be needed without it feeling forced or awkward/clunky.
And of course there is plenty of the classic Terry Pratchett wit and humor to be found through out. It's quirky, but not so goodfy that it fails to take itself seriously when the situation calls for it. It's one of those shows I wish there could be more of, but all good things must come to an end, and of course being based on an existing book assures that won't happen either. ^^;
