This isn’t going to work at all
I was a fan of the original GG. It wasn’t great, it had plenty of flaws, but it managed to have a cast of talented actors and an enjoyable story focused on spoiled rich high schoolers. I wanted to give this one a try out of nostalgia and.... ooooh brother, I should have just rewatched the original.
The first episode starts with a large cast of characters, parents, teachers, etc. all having their drama in the most nonsensical plot I’ve ever seen.
In the original, Dan being GG was creepy and weird but he was a loser character in high school so it made sense. In this... the freaking :asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:teachers:asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol: are GG. Lmao yes, the teachers. They have a talk about how the students used to behave and respect the teachers because they wanted to go to college and GG kept them in line... now they can just be influencers so they don’t care about school... so the teachers start being gossip girl.
I just... did the writers even watch the original? If “kept them in line” means “they were never rude to the teachers” then sure, but that’s cause they were too busy getting pregnant, running off to opium dens, getting high, ruining each other’s lives, committing fraud, blackmailing everybody, getting statutory raped, all under the age of 18.... like... yes clearly GG is what kept them “in line”.
The fact that the teachers - actual adults who claim to care about helping these children and have dreams of changing lives - could read the old GG posts about all the drama and bs I just mentioned, and then - actual adults who claim to care about helping these children and have dreams of changing lives - decide that creating a new gossip girl to harass :asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:children:asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol: is appropriate is just mind blowingly insane.
So clearly the writing is lacking in this reboot. Teachers acting like children, people getting mad irrationally or inferring things that weren’t at all obvious from the performance, it’s bizarre.
The acting is also a little dull. It feels like the characters are trying to act, they just aren’t all very good at it. A lot of performances just feel off.
There’s a knock-off Dan Humphrey, a knock off Chuck, a knock off of Jenny/Serena/Blair. Overall, the first episode just felt like a cheap attempt to reproduce the magic of something that had barely managed to capture any magic itself. I’ll update this if episode 2 changes my opinion, but for now this is worth skipping.

I'm only 4 episodes in and they already Russiagating and said "patriarchy" like 50 times.
I rate it "so original" out of ten
I've only watched the first episode, but I enjoyed it, It was fun
A modern context
This remake is not good at all! Desperate teachers bullying students is lame they act more immature than their students. Not trying to be homophobic the fact that every other character is gay or bi is a bit too much I feel like it is forced to make everyone happy, straight gay, bi, waiting for a trans character to appear so we are complete :woman_shrugging_tone1:
Overly dramatic, the plot is lame and the whole series cannot be even compared with the original. It is visibly showing how the American society changes in the last 10 years all they deal with is sex and… I don’t know it isn’t that good sometimes feel like low cost production trying to be as good as the original.
I understand and respect the fact that this was a reboot and wanted to do something different, but the first season was BORING. If you are a HUGE fan of the original, I really would not give this a shot unless you like a "drama" and are desperate for something to watch. I'm currently on Season 2 and will watch it through, but I won't be giving it another shot.
are there any late 90s-early2000s tv show not remade/rebooted/reunited left?!
wasn't that bad, actually it was eh, but I liked Aki, Audrey and Max as characters.
The aesthetic behind the show is cool, the outfits and stuff are also great. I wish they would just work a bit on the dialogue.
The students themselves aren't the problem with the show, neither are their parents (if anything, the parents are making it more interesting - excluding nick - ) , if it was purely about them it would have been better, it's just that the teachers are what r annoying me, that was such a shitty idea, and I think someone else should've been gossip girl, even if it was a parent.
The scene where the Kate shows up at Zoya's house out of nowhere frustrated me so much, I think I'd be really weirded out if my English teacher showed up at my door out of nowhere and tried to comfort me, so why is it normalized in the show? and why are they showing up to thanksgiving dinner anyway??
I don't know, im so 50/50 with the show, it needs a lot of work
The original Gossip Girl is based on a successful book series with thought out and interesting characters. This show is not. It is just trying to use the name from a previous tv show to trick people to watch.
Not a fan of the new bi Chuck wannabe. Only 1 male lead isn't bi. All the male leads are not overly good looking. Idk but the only good looking one is the teacher and he's messing with a student. Not a fan of this remake. I'll rewatch the old ones again.
I love the diversity in race but wasn't a fan of the guy on guy action that was basically on every episode.
Maybe if they had focused more on character development and story development then I could be okay with the overly bi cast.
Not my cup of tea but whatever.
I was excited to see this and it was a huge let down.
the first episode sure was something
why is this whole cast so bi, and hot UGH WE REALLY OUT HERE WINNING
when I heard this show was cancelled I was not happy however after seeing the finale of S2 there were worst places to leave it, gossip girl was revealed to the cast, they all seemed happy and on the up (except Max & potentially Monet). Did not enjoy that we didn't see anything from Luna (special shoutout of her for being successful) or Monet as they are the best characters in the show and I am rooting for a spin off with just them
such a precious cast and tv show, I do not fucking care I just love it. I wish it would've lasted longer, but I got a feeling it won't be the last time we see our the one and only fave gossip girl
I just can’t deal with most of this. Like I am living for the drama until they remind you these teachers are trolling these kids. I mean why???? It’s just so gross that these teachers are so obsessed with their students.
I was beyond dubious about remaking/reviving Gossip Girl after so few years, but this generational change was the update I never thought I needed every week in my life.
This new bunch feels edgy, fresh and current. Ironically given how fake they are by definition, something feels so real about this. Maybe it's the production values, maybe it's that the Instagram-fueled 2.0 version has been perfectly adapted to these days and juxtaposing it to Serena dropping a Blackberry into a trashcan gives another extra layer of cultural context. Makes you feel old and young at the same time, and for a concept as frivolous as Gossip Girl is, it just draws you in even more. So many reasons to watch it, deconstruct it or simply enjoy it. Gone piss, girl. Gone piss.
I feel like I shouldn’t even watch this since I saw no promo… just randomly saw it pop up on HBO Max… I’m not excited at all and this was my show!
