Why does the standing cutout have handles on it? Oh, right. Because without handles, that bit where it falls over and the kids pick it up would take far too long to be even remotely believable.

So if they live near the beach, that means outside has salt air. I'm no guitarist, but I certainly wouldn't leave my violin out in the salt air like that. Can't imagine it would be any better for a guitar. Metal strings (and tuning fixtures) won't do well in that.
