Six episodes in, and while I'm seeing comments that say it gets better after the first season... It just feels like SyFy is recycling Eureka and Warehouse 13 here. Eureka was alright with the conflict between the townie sheriff and the big tech company. Warehouse 13 didn't have anything holding it together, it was just a bunch of mediocre paranormal stories chained together... and Haven feels the same way. Eric Balfour is good as always, but I don't care for the two leads at all.
The problem with the 'Troubles' formula, beside the fact that it's poorly introduced in a quick conversation by the male lead to the female lead, is that the problems are not always resolved or even explained. Most of the time they're involuntarily triggered by someone in times of stress, and they almost always just promise not to ever do it again. They aren't killed, they aren't cured, and they don't leave town. They just, "Oh my bad, I was the one causing the trouble... Won't do that anymore!" and that's that.
I think there's definitely a place for this on TV, where you can catch an episode here and there, but for binge watching one after the other, it leaves a lot to be desired. I'm dropping it and giving it a 5/10. The stories are entertaining, but the resolution is poor and some of the explanations don't make sense.
One of my favorites. It is kinda weak in the beggining of season 1 but it gets so much better. I'm so excited for more Haven!
i enjoyed the first 2 seasons, but then the show just got too boring with the same tired formula used in every episode, but i slowly, pushed my way through the entire series, and again the ending was disappointing and expected ... and an easy out for the conclusion
Well Haven never been my favorite series, but it has been really entertaining. Despite all my negative opinions through all five seasons, I always come back for more new episodes. Now it's ended. Sad that I won't get anymore troubles. But I relieve that Haven get the proper ending. Not perfect but way better than any other canceled series that proudly wasting my time.
In my opinion the series started out good and sort of stayed interesting up to season 2. From there on I was a steady decline. Towards the middle of season 4 I finally gave up on this show
When I started to watch this series, I just wanted to see another Heroes, or The 4400. I was happy because I've got what I was looking for. The special abilities were interesting and varied, the little stand alone episodes were enjoyable, then a main thread has been appeared. That was a nice idea, and the writers were able to skillfully use it. In the beginning of this series it was a funny joke series like Eureka, without any real scientific explanation. But it is getting closer to a very good sci-fi series and I love it. Now Haven is my primary series if I want to watch sci-fi. The main characters are very lovable, and there are several very interesting mysteries which served us well dosed. Some characters evolve over time, but mostly in focus only the relationship between the characters. The computer made effects are pretty nice, and it is not overdosed. The main actor, Emily Rose, is quite good in her role, but she is sadly not as good as Anna Torv in Fringe, but it is not so annoying that we could't enjoy the show. So I recommend this series, and if you like sci-fi, it is worthy to watch even if the beginning is a bit slow and silly. Be persistent, it will be better after the first season.
I agree with the critics above except that I would say it really started to improve about the middle of the second season -- though the "two Audreys" sub-plot bridging season 1 and 2 was well done. They've kept up with the "trouble of the week" format for the most part but the overall mythology has grown and adds more substance to the later episodes. And they've gone a touch "darker" which adds a nice contrast to the idyllic setting. If I were to recommend, I'd say skipping the first 12 episodes wouldn't leave you at much of a loss.

I prefer the early episodes, mainly because they focussed upon different "troubles"; whereas the latter ones were a bit dull because they mostly focussed upon a single story element.
This show has such a warm cast of characters and a great performance from the female lead, Emily Rose. I believe that, unfortunately, there was network interference to spread this show out as long as possible. The reason being is that there is clearly a narrative here, but it takes a back seat to whichever "Trouble" is the highlight of the episode.
The problem I have with this being a police crime procedural is that the actual police are rarely even in the show. Nathan is anything but a detective/police officer. He claims to know all of the officers by their first name and yet never speaks to them. One other glaring mistake is that Nathan doesn't have a radio. In fact, nobody seems to know what one is in this city, er small town.
In short, if you're interested in a supernatural drama that you can have on in the background, then this is for you. There are also lots of allusions to Stephen King's works throughout. Don't take this one too seriously and you won't be disappointed.
I miss the 3 mao* main characters and their interactions more than the show. The show overall is entertaining- builds up slowly s0ome episodes/season are ok, some go0od to great so if you like sccifi, heroes, eureka, waerehouse 13 etc give it a shot upto s2 atleast- but some will like it some will not.

I started watching Haven because it was a SciFi series based on a Stephen King novella. I immediately became a devotee because, to my mind, the primary character was my home, the Nova Scotian South Shore surrounding Lunenburg (with a side order of greater Halifax), pretending to be King's Maine. The writing deteriored as the series went on, and the plot exhausted the novella's potential and devolved to characters continually restating the initial premise ad nausiem, (the last season could have been reduced to 12 episodes rather than the split season of 13 episodes over two years). But then the unexpected happened. The places I loved, the characters I'd grown fond of, the bevey of guest performers from the "who's who" of SciFi TV and Canadian primo talent culminated in an unexpected treat, William Shatner joined the cast to bring the series to its end, and instead of being the idiosyncratic parody of himself that he usually brings to roles these last couple of decades, he reminded us of the talent of the young, pre-Star Trek Shatner who performed Shakespeare at the Stratford Festival. The series went from an 8 - to a 7 - to a 6 (out of 10), but the last episode, with its homage to its fantastic locations, and it's reprise of the romance that won our initial attention ended on a 9, which I will revisit with fond affection in the future.

I saw until episode 10 of season 1 and i was so bored and though it was a bad show so i stopped... now i see its on season 4 already and people say its amazing. it improves that much...?

I should note that it's definitely the best "Stephen King" inspired TV effort ... which isn't saying much, I know. King SHOULD translate well to TV but for some reason ... Well, time to watch "Under The Blunderdome" for my weekly yuks ...

Just seen the 7th episode and i give up... I´m sure it gets better because a lot of people seem to say that, but good enough to bump other shows i see? i don´t think so ... it would have to be a BIG change because till now its just mediocre in so may ways..

If a grocery store sells paperback books, they most often carry many titles churned out by the author Stephen King. Usually, they’re top-sellers and are prominently displayed. There are new titles so often that is seems there may be a sweatshop in some country where children are ordered to write scary stories really really fast — then the Stephen King Corporation glances through them to find the best of mediocrity.
‘Haven’ appropriately represents this, and would be perfect for watching on your smartphone while waiting in checkout lines. Crying without tears. Humor without laughter. Plot without substance. Acting without appropriate skills. Haven has it all, even the kitchen sink.
$3.00 an episode, or $20 for a season? Anyone willing to pay those prices would be a swampland merchant's dream. Nothing but reruns on regular TV, and, Haven is part of your Netflix or Prime streaming subscription… maybe… It's one of those shows you can miss gaps or episodes of, and it really doesn't matter.
There’s so much choice when it comes to good television these days, and while Haven doesn’t come close to representing that —you could do worse.
