The previous Marvel limited series were so bad that this felt like “Citizen Kane” in comparison, but unfortunately, we are still getting watered-down 4+ hour movies instead of actual TV shows. It’s a pity because without the extra fat, “Hawkeye” could have been an enjoyable straight-to-TV Christmas movie.
If the objective was to have us like Barton and Bishop more, they succeeded. The actors have great chemistry, and I am definitely looking forward to seeing more of them. Yelena and Swordsman were also excellent additions to the cast.
The villains, on the contrary, felt quite highly disposable. Echo has the same exact role and development as Yelena, but not nearly the same charisma. The lethal last boss has been suggested for five episodes, but when he finally comes out, he gets humiliated by all the main characters in a couple of minutes.
Can I pretty please get a Kate & Yelena series? Their chemistry is by far the best part of this show. Loved it.
Well, I am not a Marvel Fan as such and I certainly don't read the comics. I watched about 90 % of the movies but they became more and more tedious for me. I just mention this so you better understand my comment.
I watch the Marvel shows because they are on Disney. Simple as that. Some I liked (Wanda and Falcon), some I didn't (Loki) and this one is kind of in nowhere-land. Started well and I hoped it would make the character of Hawkeye more interesting. It didn't, and after the first couple of episodes I liked it less and less. The story just didn't make me care for anything that happened on screen. And the humor and awkwardness that nowadays seems to be a must-have doesn't sit well with me either. What some percieve as funny are roll-eyes-moments for me I could live without. There were no real highlights and I really didn't like Kate Bishop. Bringing back Kingpin only made me realize how much I would love to have had another Daredevil season.
Since this shows main purpose is to be a precursor for upcoming movies I might not even watch, it is entirely possibly I am not getting the point of them. Maybe they don't work as stand alone because they are not supposed to. And because of that maybe I should not watch another.
I am not ripping them of or calling them awful but that's my point of view.
Kingpin's "Mind you own bussiness" is probably the only good thing this show has.
Why do all these shows rely on "guess who's the real big bad" twist for its conclusion. Just make a compelling series with a clear villain from the start and develop that, Jesus. I just don't know how people can be hyped for characters they are not familiar with. I guess some of the hype is created by media buzz to tell you "hey, this is actually a great thing!"
Maybe because I had no expectations, this ended up to be a pleasant surprise. I loved it very much and if anyone loves the MCU should give this a watch.
More trash from Kevin Feige. All of the auxiliary characters are poorly acted and annoying feel bad for Jeremy Renner for being roped into this series.
Decent start so far. The ground work was made for what could be something really great. I love that they’re addressing the wear in tear being a hero can have on just a regular guy like Clint. I’m also a sucker for seeing big events through the lens of pedestrians. Introducing Echo in red lighting can’t be a coincidence can it???
hailee steinfeld supremacy + the dog needs more screentime honestly
As always with MCU shows/movies, there's great stuff here but it's buried under the usual formula and the need to setup a hundred other things by taking time away from the core of the story. This was sold as the Marvel version of a Shane Black movie but it's basically an anesthetized version of Shane Black.
A (mostly) very good cast for a (mostly) very dull show.
What a piece of garbage, then what else can we expect from D+ Just glad this was mini series and consigned to the archives.
It didn't hit me until the last episode but this series also introduces the Swordsman character, Jack Duquesne (Jacques Duquesne in the comics). In the comics this character was the one who first trained Hawkeye and they've always had a connection.
Best Marvel Disney+ show to date! Takes the elongated Marvel movie but fits the best in the episodic format without feeling dragged out. Keeps the stakes low but feels bigger than most of the other recent Marvel releases, with fun surprises and cameos throughout. The Christmas setting really helps as well.
Hawkeye, a superhero show that is fun and enjoyable, but when compared to other superhero shows from the MCU, this series does not provide a shock effect or something that makes the audience's eyes widen.
Show is decent overall, but also has some unnecessary weakpoints.
It was kind of unexpected for me how much I enjoyed it. I had really low expectations (because Hawkeye), but I think this is one of my favorite MCU-shows thus far. It's not that big in scale, which helps a lot. The dynamic between Kate and Clint is great and Yelena is awesome. I just had fun with this, it has great humor most of the time. Nothing unexpected or stuff that made me fall of my chair laughing, but just a fun, action-packed show. Also, love the Christmas-setting; move aside Iron Man 3!
It is becoming increasingly clear that the Marvel series are elongated subplots of films that fail to have their own entity (except in some cases). There is a certain irony here that brings the Christmas context, but also makes it an easily forgettable product that doesn't even take advantage of the context and the characters. It's kind of like Marvel fast food that as soon as it's eaten as it's expelled.
The conversation about how branding should be sincere & the MCU is selling inspiration is gonna be the last thing rattling in my brain before death.
The acting was good though
This was a lot of fun. Some neat surprises (I'm talking about you know who appearing in the final episode). All in all, I think this was the funnest of the Marvel shows so far though Loki and WandaVision had a lot more creative leeway. Anyways, the Christmas setting does a lot for it and I'm glad this character got his own solo project.
Honestly this show was okay. Started off pretty mediocre but got better from Episode 3 onwards. I have mixed feelings on the ending of this show and the return of Kingpin.
I felt like Yelena forgiving Clint happened weirdly. It's like she denied everything he said about Natasha until a point, and then she believed him for some reason. Very odd.
Also Kingpin felt off to me in the finale. The characterisation he received in Daredevil was leagues better then what he got here. In this show he just seemed like a generic bad guy boss. Also I really hope he didn't die at the end cause if he did, what a waste of his character!
Overall this show felt like the weakest of any MCU show we got this year. It had its moments, but there was also a lot of messy plot points and character arcs.
On that note however, I do look forward to seeing Kate Bishop in future MCU projects. Her and Clint's relationship was the highlight of this show for me.
Series Review
Welp, I just finished "Hawkeye"! What do I think?
It's a mixed bag. The first two episodes were pretty forgettable, but the next three were good. The finale didn't stick the landing, but it's okay.
Episodes 1 and 2 were fine. At the start, Clint saved child Kate! It was an awesome idea! But since they didn't interact, the potential was wasted. Afterwards, the show kept both leads separate for the entire time! While Kate was engaging with the plot—which happened for no reason—Clint had more character moments but less screen time. The action also sucked: it was poorly choreographed and overly edited. Episodes 1 and 2 were a rocky start, so I had little faith in the series.
Then, Episode 3 changed everything—it was fun! It started with a villain backstory—after introducing them in the previous episode—and gave more representation to deaf/hard of hearing people. It's dealt with tact and empathy too. There's a scene where Clint can't hear his son on the phone, so Kate writes what his son's saying so Clint can respond. It's so bittersweet when he says,
Clint: "So happy to hear your voice."
Since we know he can't. The episode's quite fun too! In a long take, Kate fires trick arrows, Kate talks to a deaf Clint, and the best gag in the series involves a USB. Episode 3 is solid!
Episode 4 rolled around and continued what Episode 3 started. After bonding with Kate—what an adorable montage—Clint reveals his motivations; why he's doing what he's doing. He calls himself a weapon, and because he was a weapon in the past, he takes responsibility. So after Kate almost dies, he tells her to get lost, so nobody else gets hurt because of him. Episode 4 is worth watching too!
Then we return to mediocrity. Florence Pugh's scene with Kate was awesome. Not only did she question Kate's relationship with Clint, but also what it means to be an "Avenger". Characters throw the word around a lot. And it means a lot outside the MCU, but what does it mean in this universe? But then Clint asks for forgiveness like he's about to do something bad, but then he doesn't. So, what gives? Episode 5 sadly drops the ball.
Episode 6 doesn't pick it up either. Yelena decides not to kill Clint because he knew her so well? At first, she calls him a liar but then believes him because he knew Natasha so well (which she probably knew?). Even if you think it's this heartfelt, empathetic moment, there are no clashing ideologies here. Then, after Clint tells Kate to stay away, she fights alongside him, no questions asked. And Kate's mum reveals she was pushed into a hard place and had to do bad stuff because she had no choice, and Kate just let the police lock her up! While the episode plays it like it's nuanced, it's too black and white. Also, Kingpin is gone as soon as he arrived? The show forgot about Jack? Is Kate Hawkeye now (not that I'm complaining)?
Anyway, "Hawkeye" is a mixed series. It's fun, sometimes empathetic and tact with its representation, but it ultimately gives into mindless action scenes, lip service and dropping its many interesting character arcs. Still, I'm glad I saw something with my mum and dad.
7/10
Just another show about rich people that can afford rent. So boring.
Disappointed in that it feels scripted and stiff. Terrible idea of Ronin as a person. A or the Ronin - The Disgraced Japanese Samurai. A Ronin was a samurai without a lord or master during the feudal period of Japan. A samurai became masterless upon the death of his master or after the loss of his master's favor or privilege.
The whole idea seems to be reaching for something but not sure how this all works as a theme. Maybe trying to make a vigilante from whole cloth is asking too much. I won' t watch this "want to be" Marvel series from Disney Studios. God Bless Stan Lee a true creator.
except cool arrows and larpers this show is just bad because there is nothing new about the story. Full of plotholes and Comedic goons. Yelena can't even defeat kate lol. Climax was disappointing. I liked arrow more than hawkeye
This was a relatively exciting show to watch... until I finished it and immediately forgot about its existence. I enjoyed the relationship dynamic between Clint and Kate (who was the perfect character foil). The series felt shallow because there wasn't anything particularly unique or memorable.
It's hard for me to express how badly I wish this was a movie instead of a series.
While Marvel shows have been hit or miss, I really enjoyed this low-level crime-fighting show. The characters are all fun and the story is simple and easy to follow, I just enjoyed watching this.
Yelena deserves her own show.
My favorite Marvel show so far. It was actually fun, and it delivered to what it set out to be, a fun Christmas show.
It starts well, fades off in the middle, then roars back. But overall, it's a well-told story. Glancing at a comment below, I think the "arrow effects" are way better than in ... er... Arrow. Kate Bishop starts off annoying but "likeability" steadily improves. It's a solid Marvel show, with a flickering but reasonable premise. The showdown in the last episode raised it from a 7 to an 8 for me.
loved this show sooo much, it had me in my feels since the first five minutes,
Jeremy, Hailee and Florence did such a great job, AAAAAAH
i loved Yelena and Kate's interactions
As of right now, this is probably the best MCU Disney+ show. We'll have to see how things go with Moon Knight and onward.
The chemistry between basically every character is great, especially between Clint and Kate. The villains were fun interesting, and intimidating, and the flow of the story was very well paced, and every episode had something engaging that made it stand out from the others.
They do a much better job at characterizing Clint in this show than they have done with any other main character in these MCU shows. At its core, it's about his struggle with his past actions as the Ronin, and how both his heroic and non-heroic actions have unknowingly affected people.
Not a second is wasted in delivering a good story with good characters. I wish the other shows that came before had as much care put into the writing and direction as this one did.
Finished it up this morning. First I'll say that I absolutely despise the weekly release so I always wait till the show is completely finished and watch them all in one go. I feel you get a better overall experience by doing that.
We really enjoyed the show. First I liked the fact that it took place over a 5 day period instead of being drawn out over a month or longer. It's nice seeing the average guy, Barton (sorta) doing his thing. I actually liked how they brought Kate Bishop into the show. Does it follow the comics? No. It was well done though. Overall the 6 episodes were really well done. Looking forward to another season.
This was a good watch, I wasn't too fussed on the first couple of episodes as i thought it was a bit too cringy for my liking but once Florence Pugh entered to reprise her role as Yelena I was invested.
I've seen some Hawkeye Does Die Hard comments and I think they're off the mark... Something like Hawkeye Has A Daredevil Xmas seems more accurate. (And Daredevil feels like it deserves another season as it was the strongest of the streaming outings by far and could have stepped up to a movie had Marvel been more about story than visuals)
Don't think Hawkeye was amazing, but overall, it was still amusing in my opinion! Felt some things were lacking. Thankfully the show got better after each episode. Fun action sequences especially in ep3 and 6. If there's a second season, I will check it out.
The show’s ok. As a stand-alone series, it isn’t very strong, but just because it’s connected to the MCU, it automatically becomes better. By the way, I truly hope that the musical stays in this series… good lord! It’s cringeworthy!
loved every minute of the show, if only there were more episodes.
I hope there's a second season
I came into this with low expectations. I was rather surprised by how good it was. I was even more surprised by how much I liked it. This is a pretty good story about a guy trying to get back to his family for Christmas.
:heart:x8
This was delightful lighthearted fun! Clint finds himself a mentee. Kate found herself a new father figure. Jack Duquesne turns out to be a good guy . Eleanor turns out not so surprisingly to be the bad guy . Lots of fun with arrows and explosions. And best of all Kingpin is back.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Well that was incredibly... bland...
Continuing Phase 4's trend of delivering the goods, Hawkeye is an airy, quick on it's feet good time that also manages to bring an unexpectedly down to Earth, grittier tone then one would expect from a show like this. Much of this is due to the casting of Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, who is simply amazing here and brings both a likability and vulnerability to Kate. Her chemistry with both a much improved Jeremy Renner (easily his best showing as the character) and the always excellent Florence Pugh carries the show, and the rest of the strong cast (particularly Alaqua Cox) helps flesh out the unique, sometimes even bizarre cast of characters here.
Bert & Berdie and Rhys Thomas do great work in action scenes as well as adapting Matt Fraction's style of writing, in particular taking elements from all kinds of 80/s/90s action films for influence. If you put his name on this, I could 100% believe this was a more family friendly Shane Black film, from it's witty dialogue, Christmas setting and influence, and complicated murder mystery storyline with personal connections. It's yet another strong entry in the MCU canon, and showcases how the Disney+ shows have consistently been some of the best stuff they've ever put out. Loved this!
What can I say? Just give me more.
Well, I didn't expect that at all, but I'm kinda love it. I never really liked Clint that much, but it changed a bit after this. Kate was awesome, I'm really liked Hailee in that role. Still I can't decided what realtionship I love more - Kate/Clint or Kate/Jelena?
Also it was pretty great see Kingpin again.
Oh, and nice surprise (to me because i'm polish) was that one of the tracksuits guys was played by polish actor - it kinda never happens in american productions.
A good and refreshing series during Christmas!
Great chemistry between the two leads with a couple of surprises mixed in makes this fun and enjoyable.
Much better than Loki. Jeremy and Hailey are good together and much better acting at least. Definitely recommend.
we love to see another queen join the MCU.
Even with the soapy melodrama, occasional bad acting and a considerably lower budget (probably 2% of the budget of this show per episode): Arrow managed to create better characters and more visceral, memorable and coherent action scenes in its first 2 seasons compared to this show. I’ll even go as far to say that it looks better, despite using incredibly basic set ups and filmmaking techniques. Getting Hailee Steinfeld was a great choice, but her character isn’t leaving a very strong or likable impression. In comparison, Joss Whedon managed to make you care about Clint’s character within 15 minutes of screentime. Well, enough to make you care as a side character.
Moreover, this feels like a studio giving their impression of a Marvel Netflix show, like Daredevil or Jessica Jones, but it doesn’t understand what makes those shows good. It’s so tame and uninspired. It seems to aim for 80’s cheese at points, but even those old action movies had some bite to them (despite how silly they could get). The comedy is mostly flat out lame and cringy, with the role playing scene probably being the lowest low of the entire MCU so far. The recent Marvel projects have had such a weird shift in terms of comedy. They used to be great at making mass product films that were at least a little bit clever and subversive. It’s no surprise that a lot of people who worked on Community also work behind the scenes at Marvel. It’s like they fired those writers after phase 3 ended, and hired the Friends team instead. Their quality control is spreading very thin.
Just finished the first two episodes (I seriously dislike episodic releases, I will probably wait until the whole season drops before I watch the rest). Initial impressions - interesting characters, great chemistry between Clint and Kate (they are perfect foils for each other), great fight scenes (they’ve given Kate the Black Widow’s signature move). Lots of action. Lots of fun. Love the dog. Based on the first two episodes, I’m giving this series an 8 (great) out of 10. [Superhero Action Adventure]
Honestly, how could this fail? Two of the fasted rising stars (Hailee Steinfeld and Florence Pugh), the weight of the Marvel Universe behind it (Kevin Feige’s vision and Marvel’s course corrections in balancing humour, action and superheroes) and the growing power of the television format to maximize storylines. This was another winner. The only holdbacks for me were the one toned performance of Jeremy Renner and the weakness of a credible threat. I give this series an 8 (great) out if 10. [Superhero Action Adventure]
THIS SHOW IS SUPER FRICKIN AWESOME AMAZING AND HAS DEFINITELY TAKEN SECOND PLACE OVER WANDAVISION AS BEING MY ABSOLUTE SECOND FAVOURITE D+ SHOW
WITH "TFATWS" BEING MY NUMBER 1.
CB ONE, KATE, YELENA WERE PHENOMENAL AND I COULD NOT GET ENOUGH OF ALL INVOLVED. WOW...JUST...WOW.
THIS SHOW HAD EVERYTHING AND WAS THE GIFT THAT KEPT ON GIVING EACH AND EVERY EPISODE. THE LOKI SHOW WAS GARBAGE TO BEGIN WITH NOW WITH HAWKEYE BEING THIS AWESOME JUST MAKES LOKI EVEN MORE TRASH,
where/how did it all go wrong for that show?).
HAWKEYE GOT IT RIGHT EVERY SINGLE EPISODE AND I DIDN'T WANT IT TO END AND IRONICALLY HAWKEYE WAS A BETTER RESPECTFUL SEND OFF FOR NAT THAN HER OWN SOLO MOVIE
BLACK WIDOW WAS.
THIS SHOW WAS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOW TO GET IT ALL RIGHT AND THEN SOME.
I DEFINITELY NEED MORE CB ONE KATE AND YELENA IN MY LIFE.
10/10 PERFECT.
MORE THAN "A" FAN
ALWAYSTHATMARVELGUY
(HAWKEYE IS ONE OF THE MANY MANY REASONS WHY).
7.5 more then an 8 because it feels like it lacks substance. Alot of comic moments and enjoyable overall.
watched the first episode and did not like the plot tempo and how the characters were developed.
YOOOO this show rocks so hard
Some of the humor could've used more work, but overall, I loved this series. Now I understand what everyone was talking about re Kate & Yelena lol.
I mean I'm not going to lie, I liked this alot. The characters and the plot to introduce multiple characters mixed in with the creative cgi scenes or bouncy practical scenes, It's great.
I will admit I was disappointed
The series gets interesting in the second part, so you have to endure a weak beginning.
This was far and away my favorite of the Marvel TV/mini-series. I thought that storyline, the characters and their arcs, the writing, and the acting all meshed well together. The cast was top-notch. Hailee Steinfeld turned in another terrific performance, as did Florence Pugh, and newcomer Alaqua Cox was truly impressive, all the more so as an actor in their first role. I'm particularly looking forward to Ms. Cox continuing on w/ her character in Marvel's upcoming Echo. I also hope to see Ms. Steinfeld continue on w/ her character, as well. All in all, this was just a really well-produced, well-written, and well-acted mini-series.
I very much enjoyed this. A nice balance between drama, action and fun. There's quite some comedy in this.
It's also much more enjoyable than for example Arrow, which at some became endlessly stupid gun fights vs arrows.
The amount of fist fights in this was also not over the top (vs how it was in Dare Devil or the golden fist boy...).
Acting in this series is here and there a bit sub par (strange to come to this conclusion when you look at the actor star cast) But overall, very enjoyable series.
MODERATION EDIT: Don't use offensive words.
3 Thoughts After Completing ‘Hawkeye’:
Not as great as WandaVision. Not as terrible as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The show was fairly one-note up until the finale. Very little buildup throughout most of its duration. And some connections didn’t really click. (I found it odd that Hawkeye so casually knew about Kingpin.)
Fortunately, we were treated to some fantastic characters. It was nice getting to know Renner’s Hawkeye a bit more. Steinfeld is so frickin’ likable. Kingpin was a pleasure to watch, as always. And Pugh was FANTASTIC.
If it wasn't for Renner and Steinfield, i would of booted it in the first episode. A pretty pointless show.
The funniest marvel TV show ever.
It's based on the comics (Hawkeye by Fraction & Aja) and I recommend it, if you loved the series.
i like the show so funny and easy to follow
Marvel need to start paying David Aja and given that his influence over the series is absolutely everywhere, it's criminal that he hasn't been yet.
Cause no one ever shouted "Help me hawkeye!"
That being said I like the actors.

it's not that bad if you don't know the source material, but kate bishop is my favorite comic character and fraction's hawkeye is incredible and compared to that, this falls short
