Don't watch season 2, it's a total waste of time!
Imteresting start for season 2. Now on an island.
(via TV Blaze for WP)
So, that final episode just made me lower the rating even more. Helix is a generic mix of various clichés from genre fiction but just doesn't come together very well. Despite featuring a plenthora of scientists there isn't much of their brilliance left which results in so many unneeded clusterfucks. Suprisingly for a 13 episode season taking place in a remote research base they manage to fill the runtime but there is still plenty of melodrama to go along with the silliness of the story. Probably the best thing about the show is the music choice which is rather playful but that's about it.
Season 2 has been announced and is probably the reason for the first one ending so unsatisfying. From the looks of it that one is rather disconnected and offers even less reason to have a full season of it.
Wow season 1 = great TV, season 2 = WTF?!?! Complete and utter garage, what happened? New Directors/Producers? Don't waste your time. Had high hopes for Season 2 after Season 1 was so good. Most of the dramatic scenes have stupid music over which completely ruin the scene!
The show is not good, but the soundtrack is amazing.
Season 1 was a good start for a new show. The setting in a arctic science centre is great.
But what happend with the show in season 2? Season 2 is totally crap.
First episode, disgusting and repulsive.
So awful it's good -- meets the requirements to be considered 'camp':
"deliberately exaggerated and theatrical behavior or style" -- it's got all that in spades ;-)
This show is surprisingly very enjoyable!
If you've grown tired of The Walking Dead like I have then you should give this a go!
Easily one of the most promising/enjoyable sci-fi shows I've seen in quite a while. Yes, there are flaws. I'm not particularly attached to any of the characters yet, and some of the acting is subpar. But, as an avid sci-fi/fantasy/horror genre television watcher, it's nothing I'm not used to. (If you like these genres too, it shouldn't be anything you're not used to either.) And, what flaws this show does have are made up for in intense, grab the edge of your seat, action. Make no mistake, this is a very plot driven show at the moment. But, the plot is EXCELLENT, and I imagine the characters will be fleshed out soon enough (if they manage to live that long.) The first couple episodes of a new series always start this way. Plot first. Character arcs later. We have to get to know these people first!
Interesting how those experts from the CDC are such freaking amateurs.
There's some mutant in the air conditioning, attacking other people.
"Ah, screw it, I am going in there without any protection and search for that mutant 'cause he's my brother." Also interesting what they call SciFi nowadays. This is merely mystery for now in my not glimmering eyes.
I like the premise but the script is at the incredible low standard of The Blacklist's.
Granted, the execution is much better, there are capable actors, it is kinda entertaining and on Helix the people for doing the props have actually an eye for detail/their work in general in opposite to The Blacklist (i.e. they take a frigging screenshot of a Windows TaskManager, put it on the monitor for a plot that involves evil Asian hackers. A screenshot!) but still, some of the script is so logically flawed..
Ep3, "the test doesn't work", yeah, well go figure that one out when you're about to be cut off of any communication and not as soon as you show symptoms. It's not like you worked with that test before, when you thought you might be infected and were concerned about it. In addition that test isn't really important anyway.. Right, Ms. Expert? Suuure.
Gonna stick around for a bit more but I'll heavily doubt it'll be worth it at the end.
I have mixed feelings on this. I mostly agree with @ketu except for the Blonde scientist (played by Catherine Lemieux); I find her abrasive and thoroughly unwatchable. When the monkey got her in the face I thought 'excellent, she's out' but no, not even a scratch (wtf, come on!)
Fringe was mentioned and I've heard elsewhere this compared to and touted as the next Fringe. It will never be Fringe. Fringe was lightning in a bottle. There is simply no potential chemistry here like it, and Walter is so unique in both character and performance. These characters are very flat and the nature of the contained environment leaves little development for our 'heroes' that won't slip into soap opera territory.
There was some good dialogue, the exposition wasn't grating, though the 'working with the ex-wife' is amongst the handful of clichés here. I like the main guy (played by Billy Campbell), I think his performance is quite good. I think the make up effects are good, the CGI monkeys were cool though some of the other CGI is a little wonky (the shot where they were walking from the helicopter to the complex was bad).
I'm hoping this show develops into something with some balls. It's seeded enough interesting points that it may, but stretching this out beyond a season (13 episodes?) seems like a push to stay interesting.
No spoilers I just wanted to say that this series has the weirdest opening credits theme song for the genre. It is so in unharmony. The series kind of reminds me of Medical Investigation from 2004. Helix seems like one episode of Medical Investigation but then stretched to a season. There is a lot of medical mumbo jumbo and the scientists seem to know everything about medicine (the science) and even botany. The dialogs are at times so far-fetched that it made me wonder what kind of sick and nerdy screenwriters are behind the show. Nevertheless I enjoyed binge watching the show but I am sure that if I could not binge watch it and had to wait a week between episodes that I would have most probably stopped watching after three episodes.
Loved season 1 so much!! It was exactly what I was looking for! Season 2 completely fell apart but I'm still sad to see it go. Now I need to try and find something similar to it... sigh
I actually really liked this one. It keeps the strange events up all the time and always takes a turn you won't expect (well, most of the time). Really too bad the cancelled it, hope they make a season 3 one day.
season one was an amazing thriller much like the movie The Thing with Kurt Russell...but season two MEH i made it 3 episodes and couldn't take how horrible it had become, there is no need to watch pass the first season!
I am very happy today
Season 1, amazing. Season 2.. not as much, but still worth the "mind fuck" it presents. The writers definitely went down that dark alley that you should never go down with season 2, and it inevitably led to the show getting canceled. This show is definitely worth the watch if you have a weekend of free time.
I was looking forward to a third season because I believe the second season didn't reach its full potential.
Thank goodness Syfy has cancelled the series. Season 2 is horrendous!
Not sure what to hold of this. It started out pretty intense but developed in a whole other direction.
Great actors but in the end I just lost interest
J'avais envie d'y croire mais les invraisemblances , le rythme inégal vont avoir raison de ma patience .
Muitoooo boa!
Deeply disappointed with this series. Ridiculous dialogues, characters out of a children's program. How it got renewed I will never understand. This is the last thing from SciFi that I watch, the quality of their shows and movies (Sharknado anyone?) is really sub par.
Not a great show by any means but it is very watchable and you have to admit the music is perfect! Omg that song from Moonrise Kingdom in the finale :)
不错 很好看 刚看了三集就被吸引住了
A very interesting and exciting show
I've been doing my best to stick along for the ride but this show seems like it's hitting a brick wall already... It started off great so i hope it gets better.. i'm about to watch episode "bloodline" with my fingers crossed
i love this season best act and world best story and theme
Frankly i think this is one of the best (if not the best) SyFy original series i have seen! I think the plot and the characters are great and the story is very real and fits with today's science and bio-sciences. If this is the new standard of drama from SyFy - then i think we have have some great programs coming up this year....
You will predict a lot but you wont get but an under-average series with an a bad dialog!
It won't take a review to sum it all up!
Supernatural/Mystery; no Sci-Fi.
Story- Meh!
Intelligence Factor- Your dog's brighter; provided you have a dog.
Cliché:
You see a monster? Go for it!
Somebody tries to kill you? No problem, let's just follow our killer unprotected.
There's a disease spreading? NO PROBLEM! Yes, we are scientists, biologists, but, we are superstars, too! We don't need any protective gear- we're AWESOME!
Horrible show... if you look for action( minus logic), go for it!
Sure, a TV show doesn't need to be 100% logical- but this one went so far as to subtract logic OUT!
saw the 1st 2 episodes ( considered the pilot ) didnt liked it. i was hoping for something closer to ReGenesis, unfortunately its not even close.
As I watched the trailer to this new show I was very happy that there is a new Science Fiction show out now.
The trailer was good so I watched the pilot yesterday.
Well I gonna admit, I was a little bit disappointed. The only character I really liked was the scientist with the blonde hair which character also had a LITTLE bit sense of humor in it. Of course it is no comedy show, but all the other characters fell so strange. The security guy, the military guy, the brother... nah...
Yay you can shitstorm me and say "Hej this was only the pilot" but when I compare it to a other Science Fiction Show like Fringe the pilot was far much better... Oliver, Peter, the background story of Walter ...
I really hope that those characters are getting a FAR better development.
Said that, maybe this show develops which I missed in The Walking Dead: At the first season they went to the CDC building ... and there was a small hope to counter the virus. Nothing happend and they just try to survive with no solution. Maybe in this show the plot is much more different - at least I hope so.
Lets see how the first season continues...
Watched 1st ep, it is one big cliche, like the music tough.
Interesting. Has potential
Interesting. Has potential
Quite the intense first two episodes there... I like what I saw and what they did establish in those two episodes. But will the whole first season or show play out on that arctic station? Oh well, guess they could make that work but for the long run? I'll certainly keep turning in tho, not a whole lot of "horror-y" shows on these days.
First 15 minutes aired recently, looks worth keeping a tab on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CviEeDRBr6w
Is this show any good.??
This is going to be the next Battlestar Galactica and Lost combined.
First (real) trailer: http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/11/04/trailer-helix/ Seems very promising!

Season 2 is a complete garbage
