I just noticed the dump owner was drinking from a coffee mug with “Mulcho Man” on it.
this is going to be the start of a beautiful friendship aaaaaaah
HEARTWARMING.
So, Hilda is forced to join the Sparrow Scouts, takes the oath, before taking up her first assignment. She gets partnered with tryhard Frida and her dedicated follower (freeloader), David. They're trying to get a badge for cleaning up a part of the Trolberg Park, starting by tidying the land and ripping out some "stinky weeds". Afterwards, they bring those roots to a mulch site, call it a night, before discovering the site trashed in the morning by one of those "stinky weeds".
The walking and talking weed is infuriated Hilda, and the gang dug up his friends before kidnapping Frida. They run around, discovering a vast system of underground tunnels and herds of tiny cows within them. So after hijinx have ensued, the talking plant cuts a deal with Hilda. He'll give back Frida if Hilda gets back his friends. But then he yields his bargaining power by returning Frida immediately!
But Hilda doesn't break her promise, and the five of them (David, Frida and the talking root included) save the weed's friends. There isn't a wholesome ending where the plant shows his gratitude, and they get the badge, as you'd expect. But the important thing is Hilda has friends.
Frida: "David, Hilda, and I failed to complete the assigned badge challenge. But upon further analysis, I've concluded that as failures go, ours was pretty successful."
Chapter 4: The Sparrow Scouts is a light episode, showing Hilda's bonding with her new friends, as they help each other (and others) to solidify their dependence on each other. Frida especially, learns she's not as "perfect" as she thought. But with Hilda and David by her side, she's happy despite the unobtained badge.
