Do I want a third season? Sure, this is one of my favourite book series of all time.
Would I be surprised if it all ends here? Not at all.
'Clunky' is the best word I can think of to describe this entire show. Amazing costume design, amazing special effects, amazing soundtrack and (for the most part) amazing actors. Amir Wilson killed it this season. Episodes 4 or 5 were so good I thought we were going somewhere (btw, bring back those writers who helped Thorne in those episodes, for the love of God).
But the problems are still there. Even after two whole seasons, scenes are edited poorly, Jack Thorne's writing is abysmal and the pacing is extremely inconsistent. Those are problems that were more or less understandable for the first half of season 1, but we're two thirds of the way in. What did the witches even do so far, apart from dramatically staring at walls and talking about prophecies? What was the point of showing Mary Malone wandering through Citagazze for two episodes?
A shame, considering how good all other aspects of the show are. I tried to keep an optimist mindset, and I'll be watching if a third season ever comes out, but I can now affirm that this adaptation has been mostly a disappointment.
I expected more from the 2nd season generally and from this episode specially :disappointed:
Ok, what was that after credits scene about???
Meh. Just didn't keep my attention. I dont feel the slightest bit of emotional attachment to any of the characters.
Completely nonsensical behavior of the characters, a damning cliffhanger and never-ending boring story. HUGE disappointment with this season.
So... Jopari was pretty much unnecessary, why did they even bother? I really don't think he drove any part of the story. This episode was terrible and maybe the worst of the season. You get death and you get death, everybody gets death!
Season 1 was by no means amazing, but season 2 felt short and uneventful. Maybe it's time to accept HDM just doesn't translate into live action entertainingly.
I still don’t understand Lee’s devotion to Lyra. They have had so little screen time together throughout these two seasons. It doesn’t make sense that he would think of her as a daughter. I actually kind of chuckled when he said that. Also I felt nothing when he died tbh. Miranda was such a weird casting choice for this character, it never really fit IMO. Also every time he fired his gun it totally felt like it was a prop gun. It also looked like he never really knew how to handle a gun.
The finale for season 1 was so much better, here is hoping they can bring it home in season 3. If there even is one in the works.
Fuck you, Philip Pullman. Why would you kill Lee!?
It says release date of Season 3 is November 2022 in the UK. YAY!
Last episode a bit underwhelming, after such great previous episodes
This season was not very well.
At least some of the side characters know how to act. Terrible display of the main cast. Maybe it’s the Script. That serafina scene was the only positive where some personality is shown. 10 seconds
I expected more from the second season - it started off well and then for the last 3 or so episodes the story just...stalled? I haven't read the books, so I didn't even realize this episode was supposed to be the season finale. The season feels incomplete/unfinished to me.
