1x01 Pat & Rika's Cozy Williamsburg Condo

  • 2011-08-13T21:30:00Z25m

Pat and Rika just bought their first place together, and they want their home to be 'industrial but cozy in the city.' Cortney and Robert come up with great designs for the apartment including chalkboard paint featuring portrait artist James Seward's chalk art stencil art, wall stencils for a personalized art feel and a bold wallpaper creating a focal wall in the bedroom. The Novogratzes combine vintage lighting and decor with modern furniture and wall treatments to make the perfect chic starter home for this hip New York couple.

Cortney and Robert head to Los Angeles for their first-ever retail job for 'Babakul' inside the legendary shopping mecca Fred Segal Santa Monica. Corntney and Robert want the 4000 square foot shop to make a big splash, so they call in John Houshmand to make custom shelves out of birch wood, they design lightboxes to brand a brick focal wall, and they commission their artist/sculptor friend Ann Carrington to make a one of a kind work of art for a lounge area. While on the West Coast, they also make time to spruce up a friend's patio at home. There's a lot of ground to cover with a deadline of the store's opening party looming, but if Cortney and Robert pull it off, there could be more retail jobs in their future.

1x03 NYC Townhouse Staging Job

1x03 NYC Townhouse Staging Job

  • 2011-09-10T21:30:00Z25m

Frank Davi wants to sell a very unique West Village townhouse, but it needs a lot of work. Instead of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars renovating the whole house, Frank hires Cortney and Robert to stage his one of a kind living room for a media event real estate party to show the potential of the space to brokers and buyers. The Novogratzes design the living room space from floor to ceiling: painting a checkerboard floor, commissioning large scale glitter art from New York pop artist Camomile Hixon, and hanging vintage chandeliers and garland to draw attention to the triple height ceilings in time to throw a party to create some buzz for Frank's amazing townhouse.

NBA All Star Boston Celtic Paul Pierce asks Cortney and Robert to take what used to be an old storage room at his high school alma mater Inglewood High and transform it into a state of the art student-athlete lounge as part of his Truth on Health foundation to help fight childhood obesity. Basketball and children's health are close to Robert and Cortney's heart, so they dive into the project with local designer Suzanne Kisbye tearing up the beat up linoleum floors and turning them into parquee floors, ala the infamous Boston Garden. They mix flea market finds with high end modern furniture and a high design colorful lighting cluster creating an urban loft inside a high school. The biggest transformation is covering huge 20 foot high window security gates with banner-like photographic window treatments from hip hop photographer and cultural observer Chi Modu's. Paul Pierce and his celebrity friends celebrate the finished space as part of the 2011 NBA All Star Weekend in Los Angeles.

Courtney meets with fashion designer and pink afficionado Betsey Johnson and get inspired to go bold with the color pink which they use in wallpaper and floor paint. Courtney and Robert also rebuild the entire staircase and stripe them with paint to create a 'Wow!' entryway for the house and build out the entire kitchen from scratch. Street artist Matt Siren comes in to create tag-art 'wallpaper' treatment using his Ghost Girl image that puts their bedroom over the top.

  • 2011-09-17T21:30:00Z25m

Cortney and Robert bring all seven children to meet with One.1 Model Management to discuss print modeling opportunities for the Novogratz Family. While there, their agents tell them about an opportunity to design an apartment shared by four international models that are always coming and going from shoot to shoot. Supermodel Linda V. meets Robert and Courtney at the apartment which has a hospital-like coldness that the four current tenants do not like. The Novogratzes make wallpaper the star here hanging designer wallpaper in both bedrooms. In the shared living room-kitchen area, they mix funky vintage with industrial and modern. The final touch is some hip art from Jameson Earnest.

1x07 Winegard Elementary Music Room

  • 2011-08-06T21:30:00Z25m

Winegard Elementary School in Orlando, FL has won a nationwide school contest for a corporate sponsored $50,000 renovation and Novogratz Design is part of the prize. Cortney and Robert bring the whole family to Florida for a week of fun while they complete their renovations. Principal Dr. Jhunu Mohapatra informs them that the school needs not only a music room upgrade but also an art and reading area, so the Novogratzes scour Orlando's shopping areas to find art, lighting and furniture that will tranform the space into a beautiful home away from home for the students. In addition to decking out a music performance space, they add signature Novogratz touches like a Asian pillow reading area, an art area with designer chairs, wall stencils with the names of famous musicians and a neon sign that reads 'Dream.'

Cortney and Robert have designed numerous projects for their family friend and developer Dave Barry and this time he has a special project for them that's close to his heart: to give the Novogratz touch to his family's 3-bedroom condominium in Long Branch, NJ. Cortney and Robert meet with the whole family to get their wish list and then proceed to design the ultimate space for their friends. Color is the focus of the design as they paint a rainbow of colors throughout the 2000 square foot home and use interlocking carpet tiles to color the floors. They refurnish the entire condo with an eclectic mix of modern and traditional furniture and antique store accents and for a special color blast in the kids' rooms, they stripe the beds with various shades of duct tape.

Cortney and Robert take their city, chic home design chops to the Everett family home in suburban New Jersey to renovate a basement divided into a playroom for the kids: Hannah, Charlie and Paige and a home theater/entertainment for parents, Elyse and Scott. The Novogratz do a mind-blowing redesign of the stairway that includes a rainbow-inspired stenciled design and a built-in sliding board staircase for the kids. They custom build a brand new bar for Scott and accentuate it with vintage furniture finds from one of their favorite antique stores. Then they complete an amazing playroom for the three Everett children that includes a unique collage of the children's own art archive by their friend Jan Eleni. Robert and Cortney also ask their artist/sculptor friend Ann Carrington to swing by their house to create an original magnet sculpture of the American to hang in the Everett's basement.

1x10 Jan & David's Manhattan Townhouse

  • 2011-07-30T21:30:00Z25m

Cortney and Bob bring their aesthetic to Jan and David Cohen's Midtown townhouse, which has a breathtaking view of the Manhattan skyline, but a boring interior. The Novogratzes decide to bring 'the inside out, and the outside in,' by decorating the Cohen's outdoor terrace with a chic, and environmentally friendly, fireplace, as well as fabulous outdoor seating. Cortney heads to ABC Lighting in Manhattan to buy several ultra mod metallic chandeliers. She hangs them in the center of the living room at different heights to make a bold visual statement. Cortney and Bob also commission a giant piece of artwork from artist Cristina Vergano to give the big white walls an art gallery feeling.

Cortney and Bob head to Hell's Kitchen in Midtown Manhattan where two parents need help in maximizing the limited space in their triplets' bedroom. Cortney and Bob craft a unique bunk bed that houses all three toddlers. They commission a one of a kind piece of artwork from artist Knox Martin, juxtaposing young and old. They have a photographer take candid portraits of the triplets that they then turn into a giant piece of photo wallpaper. They also give the triplets individual play spaces with a unique lighting scheme to brighten up the room.

Cortney and Bob head to New England to refurbish their country house with all seven kids in tow. They give some old tire swings a fresh look using an easy spray painting technique. They let the kids loose when they turn a spare room into an art space where the bare walls are the canvas. They add unique modern and vintage pieces to the outside of the house, and spruce it up with some yellow paint. They celebrate the tranformation with a fun ceremony for their youngest, Major, as his picture finally makes it to the wall of old family photographs.
