Each season of this show begins so damn strong. They set up the conflicts, characters, and scenarios so well and then they slowly degrade everything into an absurd fantasy world where Kevin Spacey can apparently predict every single action anyone makes, and he is completely immune to any sort of retribution for completely ridiculous actions that he does. It's basically like he becomes smarter than anyone who has ever lived on this planet and everyone else becomes mentally retarded. Even when characters who can challenge him are introduced, they are eventually revealed to be just as stupid as everyone else in the show. Some people like the breaking of the third wall that happens in every episode, I personally hate it. I watch television to put myself into another world, breaking the immersion is not a good thing.
This show has gone to shits after they fired Kevin Spacey. I'm sorry but he's a great actor that really brought this show together. He might have done some stuff 30 years a go...who knows...name one person on top of their game that hasn't done something bad. Anyway watch this show up to current season. This season sucks major ass....
Too bad next season will be the last :(.
The first two seasons are some of the best TV I've ever seen. There was a little drop-off in seasons 3-5 but it was still good. Just don't watch season 6. My rating is for the first 5 seasons as I like to think the show ended then. If only I could remove the memory of watching season 6 from my mind :(
It is a very great show, until the fifth season only, trust me and don't watch the sixth season!!
I wonder how Netflix managed to destroy the show that made Netflix great in the first place!!
Rating 10/10 for the first five seasons only.
The Sixth season is 1/10
It's such a shame that seasons 5 and 6 exist, because all they do is tarnish the legacy of the first few seasons to the point where the series is barely worth mentioning anymore.
This is by far one of the best series I have ever watched. You can say what you want, but whatever Kevin Spacey has done, I miss him in the last season. The sixth and final season was garbage, it was full of references to the actions of Spacey, and the only characters that played well were Hammerschmidt and Doug Stamper.
But in a nutshell, I would recommend you to watch the show, just don't expect a lot in the last season.
Season 6 was terrible, falling far short of prior seasons. While Robin Wright was excellent in Seasons 1-5, she works best as a supporting character in this show. As primary, not so much....
I have to admit: I don't get the Nay-Sayers. In all these years there are maybe 1-2 Episodes which i did not like or that felt mediocre. I did not like some minor decisions.
But the quality, the writing, the overall design, the actors and everything is just great topnotch!
I actually i watched House of Cards this way: I got a new season and i watched the german-dubbed version. Season 5 is now there, but i had to remind me, what happend so far. So i wanted to watch a summary, but it felt that i would miss much.
So i started one month over from Season One. This time i watched the original english dubbed Version. And i can not recall any major flaw this show got.
Thank you, Francis :)
9/10
Update after Kevin Spacey was fired:
So this show is dead now. Great. What an unworthy ending. And no, a next season will not make sense. It will not make any sense sense at all. I like the 'other' characters. I like the 'other' storylines. But without Spacey its like ordering a T-Bone Steak with Potatoes and all you get are the Potatoes. Why not finish the "Underwood"-Storyline WITH him? This way is just pure b***sh*t. Don't let me start with the fact that there wasn't a trail yet. Just thinking about it makes me so angry.
So thank you Netflix for ruining my favorite Netflix show. I guess i do not need your Service anymore.
Probably should've ended after season 4 and definitely season 5 and I only watched one episode of season 6.
But the first few seasons are simply amazing and make boring politics really nail-biting
The first two seasons were magnificent, awesome storyline and perfect acting by Robin Wright and Kevin Spacey. Season 3 & 4 were okay, but season 5 and especially season 6 were a waste of time. The story was dead after season 4.
Utterly boring. A fail attempt to create a "smart" show, the plot is boring and the characters are uninteresting.
Tom is the most fascinating character in this seasons House Of Cards.
It has been a while since I was totally and utterly WOWed by a show. This show completly and utterly BLEW ME AWAY for many reasons.. Let's start with the awesome cast..
Kevin Spacey brilliantly stars as Francis J. "Frank" Underwood, An utterly ruthless and conniving politician, he pursues only his own political agenda and manipulates everyone around him to grab influence and prestige, at the potential cost of utterly destroying everyone else to push himself forward.
Robin Wright as Claire Underwood, Francis' wife. She runs the Clean Water Initiative, an NGO, She often gets involved with Frank's political scheming, as an aid and an abettor. She proves to be just as cold, manipulative and power-hungry as her husband, often setting her own lofty goals to work alongside helping with his and letting nothing stop her.
It is a brilliant and epic show with a meticulously made plot that will leave you with nothing less than your jaw dropping to the floor one episode at a time.. WATCH IT.. Cause if you don't, you really are MISSING OUT!
Use Proxymate if Season 3 don't show up in Netflix ;)
What is it with this show? I've seen Francis brutally murder innocent people, just to gain personal power. Then six episodes later he is worried about throwing a baseball all the way from the mound, and I am hoping he does it too. Why do I care about the baseball? It is so inconsequential.
Such an excellent show I’ve just binged the box set for the 2nd time and it still gets a 10/10 rating. I haven’t let the last season affect my overall rating in this particular series because I feel that although not great they actually did the best they could with what they had.
It was never going to measure up without Kevin Spacey so I can’t fault the writers at all.
Anyway like I said 10/10 twice!!
Last season ruined the show but still great
The first two seasons were good to watch. Later on it became too boring and was just spinning it's wheels. I dropped out even before Spacey was fired.
shitty show, don't waste your time. there is no plot or story. useless characters appear outta nowhere. the idea was there, but the execution was horrible. some episodes don't add anything to the splot. the main character has no goal to reach, he plots and plans for no reason at all. like for example; what's the point of trying to make russo governor . don't waste your time, watch something else.
This is the antithesis of 'The West Wing'.
Whereas that show could be seen as some sort of utopian/heavenly vision of US politics, HoC(US) is all nine circles of hell.
Season 1 was okay (not as good as HoC(UK)). The seasons that follow are just trying to out-do the previous ones on the "how psychotic can we make it" scale.
Anyway, I'm gonna have to watch TWW at least twice to cleanse my palette after this.
House of Cards, for me, categorizes as what I call shooting star shows. They come out of nowhere, shine bright for a while until they ultimately fade to the point they disappear from sight.
Don't get this the wrong way - this is a well made show. The acting, especially Kevin Spacey, is top notch. The breaking of the forth wall was genius. I liked the first season a lot as it showed the game of politics as I could very well imagine it to be. Or I should probably say, as I think it actually is. But there came a point where it became just too much. Watching bad people do bad things and come away with it each and every time was nothing I would continue to watch. Plus they introduced so many uniteresting sideplots that made me at times left the show running while I went out of the room. Like I said, it just went on too long. There wasn't a single character I could get behind. Had it finished after the third season with the Underwoods going to jail for what they did, I would have given it a much higher rating.
I made it to the end of season four and, seeing how the ratings drop, went on to look what transpired in season five and six. And I'm fine with stopping there.
As good as it gets for a political drama. Frank Underword's speech/charm/etc makes you root for the bad guys :)
Season 1+2+the first half of the 3rd season are the best. The story gets diluted in seasons 4 and 5 and eventually the 6th one is just not on par with anything else (specially story wise)
Tnkhs tout merci tankh you
an entertained version of The Wire / The West Wing
光鮮的政客和上流社會,人物意志、魅力和手段,及其所代表的權力,永遠值得你去膜拜。部分太戲劇性了,政治應該要沉悶一點。
Should have ended with season 5.
@the_guy_with_the_hat RE: yr update: NO.... don't “thank“ Netflix..... thank Spacey for not keeping his pants ON and hos hands AWAY from where they were NOT wanted. I am so fucking mad at him, because i always LOVED watching everything he performed. So cetting fired, is on him! Even actors / entertainers have to behave at and off work. Same would have happened to everyone, as soon as their employer would find out.
Watched 2 episodes and I don't understand murican politics.
Everybody's died who tried to leak from Underwoods. Ofcourse...
This is a very good show, it is amazing! Can't wait for the new season!
#TeamFrancisUnderwood
Amazing show!!! I highly recommend binge watching it ;)
Three words. Fucking Kevin Spacey. He is just brilliant. The magnificent thing about the show is the depiction of our political world in a way that makes it so interesting to see it unfold in front of your eyes. If you can sustain anarchy and corruption you will enjoy it.
9/10
First 2 seasons were superb, the third was good, but the forth was just...trying too much to keep it interesting.. That's why my rating from 10 dropped to 8. Still worth watching though. Hope for a better season 5.
This is the best show Netflix has to offer.
Realmente es una gran obra, muy atrapante, grandes actuaciones con excelentes guiones. Fascina ver como se maneja el poder!

Love it. Fantastically complex plot lines come together perfectly. The Underwoods are the two of the most brilliantly conniving characters I've ever experienced. Robin Wright is sensational, what she's created in Claire Underwood - I can't even describe it. Kevin Spacey is excellent as well although some people have trouble buying the accent, I'm not in that camp however.
House of Cards: WOW, what a brilliant show.
Kevin and Robin are so great in this show.
Brillant ideas but the S3 was bad!!
Yawn Yawn Yawn Kevin Spacey just tries sooo hard to save this show
It's one of the best shows on Television Network!
One of the best shows I have seen!
One of the best shows ever!
Amazing show, hats off to david fincher and kevin spacey.
Simply awesome!!!
Brilliant show, can't see it go for a third season, can't see anything more happening.
Best show in years.
I hate politics, it bores me to tears but House of Cards god damn! It has to be one of the best series airing atm! Kevin Spacey kills it!
One of the best political series that i´ve ever seen.
Little John on the move.
I'm glad I sticked with the show, season 2 added some depth I felt was missing in season 1. I used to think that Boss was more close to the political environment, with more convincing story arcs, but thanks to season 2, that show caught some serious wind and is now on par.
I hope they stick with the current pace of storytelling, for this show has not disappointed me. If you can imagine watching a political drama, just go for it. You won't regret it.
Season 2 was just brilliant! Season 2 was much darker than the 1st. The ending is just perfect, with just the right number of loose ends open.
He totally changed the way we watch tv series
Season 1 was a non stop political roller coaster. Season 2 starts with a bang so be ready!
I love the insane amounts of drama pumped into politics, which is one of the most boring fields ever. This show is fantastic, especially Spacey.
I like how everybody uses real products like Google and Twitter. It adds an element of realism that I had forgotten was lost after watching a heap of shows using things like 'SearchTheWeb.biz' or just stuff like 'trending on social media'. It's subtle, but it is an element that has stuck with me.
Good show, waiting for the next season.
almost two weeks left for the new season! (via Clutter for Windows Phone)
An innovative and a pure genius show, with Kevin Spacey pushing the boundaries of acting in a tv format. Can't wait for the second season.
The new trailer for season 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFhJjCmYi1M
And the butchery begins.... February 14, 2014.
worst show I've ever seen. Watched 10 minutes and turned it off.
Great political show, can't wait for season 2! (via Clutter for WP)
There are some types of genres that ; for me; does not work has a tv show. for example The Walking Dead ( zombie sub-genre ). Political thrillers are one of those but due to the good reviews ( and spacey ) i decided to see the pilot knowing that i would only see it has a Movie and give up the next chapter. I am now hooked! This is how good this show is in my opinion! It´s the only show i will continue to see in a genre i don't like.
Wow, had never heard of this show and was just checking out other high rating shows on Trakt since Breaking Bad and Dexter had both finished up.
Amazing, flew though the entire first season. It's a cross between The West Wing and Breaking Bad, political intrigue with a bad-ass lead character that at times can be just ruthless.
Love this series.
Can't wait for the next season
Just now watching the series - three episodes in and can't wait to watch the rest. Love the interaction Kevin Spacey has with the camera right in the middle of a scene. Good stuff!
Very intelligent series drenched in political intrigue. Masters in the art of deception and social strategizing, the ambitious Underwoods are very entertaining to watch- their schemes unfolding and twisting as they bend everyone around them to their will. The intro is comprised of breathtaking high-def time-lapse shots of D.C. to the perfect tune to set the mood for the show. Netflix really has made quality material.
CRAZY good TV show. And I'm not even into politics. The best of 2013 so far.
I haven't seen this yet. Worth the watch?
house of cards was great. when do we get new episodes?
Frank (Kevin Spacey) is the Light Yagami of Politics. it's a must watch 9,5/10
Just wow !
You have to like political intrigue to watch this show, but if you do, you're in for an incredible story with amazing actors (Kevin Spacey is breathtaking)
I've taken a Netflix account just for this show, and that's certains the best 8 bucks I've spend in a long time !
Kevin Spacey & Kate Mara on TV!?
Not exactly TV - it's running on Netflix, but nonetheless I'm surprised.
More and more movie stars make it to the little screen - that's awesome! :)

Kevin Spacey is so great in this show, and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) too. They play their roles so realistic, I believe them every word!
Barack Obama wrote a book as he's got into "higher" politics. I see some parallels from the book and this tv show. Everything is very realistic. The show reminds me a little bit of "Damages" with Glenn Close, where intrigue play a big role too, but in House of Cards it is much more sophisticated. You can't really miss one episode, because you gonna miss so much. And I also do not want to miss an episode , because you never get bored here. That is how a tv show concept should be!
The big thing about the show is also the first season's ending. I don't want to put a spoiler here, but I couldn't imagine that all those different story lines got put together to a big picture in the ending.
That was amazing. Really great written.
I give the first season 9 out of 10 points because it is so amazing well written, the acting is simply awesome and the only annoying thing which comes to my mind is the long intro.
So if you want to see a realistic politics & life tv show: Give it a try.
