Another weaker episode. Barney's ripping on Canada works best in small doses, and devoting half an episode to a stereotypical view of both Canada and America just felt broad and cheesy. At the same time, the whole me vs. we thing with Ted's roadtrip with Marshall (and his feelings of Lily being a third wheel) didn't really cohere with how the three of them have seemed to love hanging out together in the past. Again, I can tolerate a certain willing suspension of disbelief to tell a story that does speak to something a lot of friends go through when their buddies get into a serious relationship, but it didn't really fit the characters as we know them after five seasons, and there wasn't anything particularly insightful or well-observed about this episode's take on that idea either. Ted and Marshall resolving their differences over the Sparky the Dog audiobook was kind of cute, but otherwise the other half of the episode fell pretty flat as well.
