5.8/10. It's a little too early to start calling trends in this season, but I'm definitely getting a feeling of these episodes being more of a mixed bag. To the point, there's some good humor, from Barney's recurring snakes comments to the unfortunately well-observed details of men's lockerrooms. And there were some nice continuity touches, like the larp-wizard picture of Ted showing up on the billboard, or Barney's legen-dary memo actually showing up.
But the meat of the episode is a little lacking. Ted's bit with Zoe isn't so bad, as it's so much like Ted to do it all for a girl while convincing himself that he really believes in something, and Barney's certainly amusing and in character by trying to get him to snap out of it. But the execution left a little something to be desired -- it's hard to put my finger on, but it just felt a little tired, with hoary gags like Zoe's crazy protesting history or her picketing being joined by marijuana legalization enthusiasts.
And the B-story with Marshall freaking out about hearing that his friend Max has a small penis and then worrying about what Lily and Robin were saying about him was pretty weak, 90s sitcom stuff. There's the grain of a good idea about being concerned about how the opposite sex talks about you, but it was all fairly broad stuff that didn't really work for me.
