It's OK -- they bought the rights to the concept and butchered the original 2012 Swedish version, appropriately titled 'Real' Humans ( https://trakt.tv/shows/real-humans ) - "Äkta Människor". It wasn't adapted from a book, the creator (Lars Lundström) developed it as an original screenplay for Swedish television: www.svt.se/akta-manniskor/

The original was outstanding, both seasons -- by the end of the 1st season of the remake, there isn't anything from the original plot -- it's been simplified and homogenized. The original, with English subtitles, can be found on Vimeo. As they've completely changed the story, no need to worry about spoilers... ;-)

When I started watching Humans, I was a bit worried. We all know that most films and series that try to tackle Artificial Intelligence are far fetched, too male-oriented; too experimental; or just downright boring. Would Humans be yet another failure? My answer to that question is: Absolutely not!

Humans is an exciting series that succeeds on all fronts: a dramatic storyline that makes you beg for answers, that, once given, do not disappoint; realistic developments; what it means to be human; and the most intriguing thing known to mankind: life itself. Humans goes beyond superficial ideas, tacky characters. They have managed to revive the many philosophical dilemma's our species might face one day. But beyond all of this, it's also just a great TV series with a well written, exciting plot. If you're considering to watch this series, I say, go for it. It's well worth your time, and it will leave you with a lot of new food for thought — perhaps resulting in some good conversations around the dinner table.

Not sure what I had expected from this. Some cool scifi I guess. What I did not expect was a drama about a dysfunctional family and a lovesick cyborg (?) looking for his girlfriend.
It all sounded very intriguing at first and while watching the first episodes it reminded me of Westworld or BSG. You know how AI developes conciousness. And it raises some interesting points that are well worth thinking about. But the show carries to much unnessessary baggage around. By episode six when the wife of the cop slept with her synth I was done.
The only positive thing was Gemma Chan who was great and very convincing in her portrayal of Anita.

Managed to watch the first series all the way through, but this really is a very silly story. William Hurt was the highlight.

Good start. Goes to sh** after 4 episodes

I've seen the swedish original and this remake and I find them both very good, interesting and thought provoking. They go into different directions and have different key points so if you are interested in the genre you don't have to choose either one of them and can just watch it all.

Great start to the series, and one that has been worth every second of my time. It has me constantly questioning my own beliefs, and I never could actually think of a situation where I would side with a robot/synth/etc before I saw this. I know it's just a show at the end of the day, but it's interesting to contemplate the decisions that I might make in that sort of world.

One of the best show about robotics and AI.
Very realistic and it's not only a sci fi show, you need to push on your brain and that's cool.
Battlestar Galactica is another great show on this subject but it appear it's a long term future.
And it's true SF show.
Here you can watch this show even if you don't have particular affinity with sci fi genre.
Actors are really great too.

3 Thoughts After Completing ‘Humans’:

  1. Despite appearing as a show about robots, this series was aptly named. Because what is so compelling (and a bit scary) about this series is its reflection on humanity — and the worst of it. That’s what this show seems to truly be about. And there are so many intriguing thoughts here that haven’t really - from my perspective - been explored in other sci-fi stories. This alone is worth the watch.

  2. It’s a tragedy that this show was cancelled without complete closure. It could have all been wrapped up in one final season and it’s a shame they couldn’t finish telling the story. BUT, don’t let it dissuade you from watching. It’s worth the ride and there are some full-circle moments at the end.

  3. Gemma Chan is absolutely stunning. Such a presence. She gave us a character with so much heart — and she didn’t always need dialogue to do so. I’m so happy to see her finding more success after Humans. What a wonderful talent.

Bonus Thought: Grab your tissue boxes. There are some pretty powerful, emotional moments along the way.

So the UK/American version of Humans is different than the original "Real Humans". Big deal? Not so much. The show is stands on it's own and is actually really interesting. If you're a fan of science fiction I would say check this one out. The cast is not breaking any new ground but the script is clever and the idea innovative. Definitely a unique concept from all the other mystery series.

Well not having seen the Swedish series, I can say that I am really enjoying this show so far. Really can't see a lot of use comparing the two shows, as I'm sure they are both great shows in their own way. When this series is over, I'm sure if I take a look at the Swedish show I'll find it missing some of the things that I like in this version. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the next episode and it's definitely on my watch list!

This show is so eerie but in an excellent way. I could totally see having these human droid bots in the future as part of everyday families. Looking forward to seeing how this season turns out!

The original was somewhat a little bit better, though, it's a good show.

I really liked this show. It was an interesting AI awakening story. Once free-will was introduced to the Synths they became just like humans with their own new struggle with good and evil, right and wrong. With the 3 seasons culminating in the ultimate meshing of Human and Synth, the series sadly ends there. It would have been interesting to see what comes next.

The concept...is spot on. The execution...is spotty at times. Thankfully, I am glad this was a full fledged concept over three short seasons where the ending was a new beginning opposed to being unfulfilled. While watching the show I often couldn't help but compare it to the video game Detroit: Become Human. It is an awesome concept that I enjoyed in the game, again in this show, and I look forward to another retelling in the future. This show will certainly not be for everyone, but those that like it might really like it.

Average Season Review: 7.5/10

Recommendation: Watch if You Need Content (For Sci-Fi Drama Fans)

I really like this series and would definitely be okey with them amongst us, even if that would sound creepy to some.
Although I haven't watched nor heard of the Swedish originial (before reading the comments) so I need to watch that while I wait for more episodes to air and to see what happens to this series.

I love the main characters, specially Anita / Miia and the teenage nerd/hacker, Mattie Hawkins.

I don't like like how the season 3 is turning out, but I guess that's just pretty normal that they would destroy something they don't fully understand and have a real way to control.
The ending of S3 E8 made perfect sense in the continium of the series, and Mattie and Leo Elster is/would make a intersting couple, but somehow I had imagined they would end up together from the season 2 on-forwards.

Why is trakter showing this third season? It's not out yet.

How do we get this to show the dates/times for the US broadcast on AMC? http://www.amc.com/shows/humans

I added this to my watchlist but it said the episodes were already aired as it was showing the UK dates.

I really enjoyed watching the first season. The show offered suspense as well as human nature regarding teen and adult hormones. I would not mind seeing a few of the actors improve their skills, but all in all, this has been a good show to watch. I look forwards to watching season 2 and more if the show continues to intrigue.
