Can't believe! Initial D is back!
This feels like a generic sports anime but about racing. When I say generic though I mean it in the best way possible, it’s done in the typical sports anime formulae but it does it perfectly. I don’t care about racing or cars in general, but I also didn’t used to care about boxing and volleyball before I watched hajime no ippo and haiykuu. This show makes me care, it’s really good, 10 x better than fast and furious.
Still a satisfying series to watch the second time through. Love the balance between technical information and character growth, especially in the first three stages. I'm a bit picky about how much dialogue there was during most of the races seen in Fourth and Fifth Stage. But if you're there purely for anime car battles, that's what fan-made AMVs and the Battle Stages are for.
Final Stage itself is wonderful, with everything up til then being brought together in a single meaningful race.
