[7.4/10] This one was a little logy, but had a lot of good stuff in it. I love the absurd destination that Charlie’s embrace of Dennis’s “Say ‘yes’ to the universe” philosophy takes him. The gambling wins, the speech at the ASPCA gala, and the pal-ing around with Ryan Howard and Chase Utley are all wild but filled with the character that Charlie and Dennis bring to situations that are mundane or amazing. And the photo text to Mac from the private plane of Dennis with Utley is the perfect cherry on the sundae.
But there’s other places where I’m less crazy about the episode. While it’s fun to see Tom Sizemore, there’s something about all the “truckers want sex with prostitutes” jokes that feels really lazy, even as those scenes show off some nice verbiage from the writers.
And I liked but didn’t love the adventures of Dee, Mac, and Frank back in the woods. Again, The Gang has developed such a rapport of the course of the show that you can throw pretty much any combination of them together and get a fun dynamic. But Frank having a spiritual connection to a hare, or Mac wanting to protect all the animals, or Dee trying to use a dead crow as bait are fine but not overwhelming places to go. Still, when they’re altogether, they’re quite funny.
Overall, plenty of good bits in this one, though it didn’t knock my socks off in the way I might expect from something that’s seemingly aiming to be a more special event type episode.
