Come for the opinion, stay for more opinions. Hey, how's it going? I'm Johnny. Pretty laid back individual who enjoys a good cup of coffee, long walks on the beach--oh and review games old and new. That last one is what I'm really here for, but sometimes I also like to dabble in podcasts and cartoons if I really have the time for it. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the show. https://www.youtube.com/user/SomecallmeJohnny/featured

2014x01 Johnny vs. Castlevania: Rondo of Blood & Dracula X

  • 2014-01-13T05:00:00Z20m

It's time for a short return to the Castlevania franchise. In 1993, the next big title in the Castlevania line-up saw release exclusively in Japan. It wouldn't be until 2007 when American audiences could finally play it . How does Rondo of Blood stack up against the likes of such classics as Super Castlevania IV? Was the wait worth it at all?

In 1997, the Castlevania franchise decided to try the whole Simon's Quest approach again, and the end result is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (also known as Nocturne in the Moonlight overseas). Richter Belmont has disappeared, causing a slumbering Alucard to awaken and explore the newly resurrected Castlevania to find out what happened to the vanished Belmont. Can he manage to locate Richter, and destroy the Castle before things get out of hand?

2014x03 Johnny vs. The Playstation

  • 2014-02-20T05:00:00Z20m

Every gamer had a console they grew up with, and when I wasn't playing Final Fantasy VI on my SNES, I was trying something new out on the newly-released Playstation 1. From 1996 until 2000, there was no other console or handheld I spent the same amount of time on; the PS1 had everything I needed, and didn't make me hate the fact that I missed out on the Nintendo 64 or Sega Saturn when they were all the rage.

2014x04 Johnny vs. Crash Bandicoot

  • 2014-03-01T05:00:00Z20m

The King of PS1 Platformers has finally arrived on this channel, so I'm gonna be looking at every Crash Bandicoot game released on the Playstation 1, including the non-platforming games like Crash Team Racing and Crash Bash. There'll be a time and place for the later games, but let's just focus on his origins for now.

With Crash Bandicoot's success, Naughty Dog decided to really crank up the effort and detail with the 1997 sequel, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. Surprisingly, it's the least financially successful in the original trilogy, but is the game itself something numbers can't speak for?

Time Traveling isn't always so bad, and Crash Bandicoot: WARPED is here to show us why. The Bandicoot was on fire after the success of the second game, so can Naughty Dog go for the proverbial Turkey and make a third game that's good?

Fasten your seat belts for Naughty Dog's last game in the Crash Bandicoot franchise. It's Crash Team Racing for the Playstation 1! Afterwards, we're going to look at the very last Crash game on the system itself, Crash Bash, a party game developed by Eurocom Entertainment Software.

No, this isn't a belated Easter review, but there's still plenty of eggs to go around. Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is another one of Sonic Team's projects that contains no blue hedgehog to play as. Instead, we control a boy named Billy who must prove his courage by smacking things with giant eggs. So, is this game any good?

I wasn't surprised to see this dominate the voting poll, but that's the power of demand folks. Dragon Ball Z Budokai was a somewhat decent attempt to make a good Dragon Ball fighting game, but it fell short in a lot of places. Do the sequels do any better? Power-up to maximum level and see what the second and third installment change for better or worse.

2014x10 Johnny vs. Guacamelee!

2014x10 Johnny vs. Guacamelee!

  • 2014-05-23T04:00:00Z20m

Carlos Calaca had kidnapped El Presidente's Daughter, and the only one who can rescue her is Juan Aguacate, a man who inherits the powers of a special mask that gives him the power of the Luchador. A modern day Metroidvania Beat 'em up, how does Guacamelee hold out as an Indie title from Drinkbox Studios?

Let the speed mend Sonic's reputation after the critically panned Sonic '06. The Hedgehog's debut on the Nintendo Wii puts him on the fast track, but is the result another statistic in the dark ages, or a ray of hope that got Sonic off of his ass? Make believes reborn, it's Sonic and the Secret Rings.

"The poll has spoken, and Super Mario RPG has claimed victory. It's Mario's first role-playing adventure, ever, and it involves just a little more than a kidnapped Princess. A fiend from another world named Smithy has begun his conquest to take over Mario's world, and we're gonna need some Star Power if we're gonna take this dude head on.

With that aside, is the game any good? Even today?

I'm in the mood for some more Mario, but before we head into the realm of 3D, there was another platformer released for the Super Nintendo that starred everyone's favorite sacrifice, Yoshi. It's the green dinosaur's time to shine as the world's most dangerous baby-sitter.

Oh Mario, always the one to revolutionize the genre. But this is no longer 1996, and with a surplus of 3D platforming games out there nowadays; does Super Mario 64 still deliver on the goods? Let's grab that awkward controller and see!

2014x15 Johnny vs. Super Mario Sunshine

  • 2014-08-10T04:00:00Z20m

I haven't played this one in over a decade. Am I coming back to something that's truly a treasure? Or is there a reason for the spacious time gap? Super Mario Sunshine is the 2002 sequel to revolutionary Super Mario 64. No pressure or anything, but does Sunshine offer something that the N64 classic could not besides better graphics? Let's pop this in and enjoy the summer breeze.

2014x16 Johnny vs. Super Mario Galaxy

  • 2014-08-30T04:00:00Z20m

The next adventure takes our hero to the star-filled void, through countless planetoids, battle stations, and other elements that somehow drifted out of orbit. It's Mario's debut on the Nintendo Wii, but does it bring that system selling quality?

2014x17 Johnny vs. Super Mario Galaxy 2

  • 2014-09-07T04:00:00Z20m

Looks like Nintendo really enjoyed the Space motif last time, so they're doing it again. How does this game manage to make a name for itself after the successful predecessor? You'd be surprised. Mario is orbiting the Nintendo Wii one last time with Super Mario Galaxy 2!

2014x18 Johnny vs. Super Mario 3D Land

  • 2014-09-16T04:00:00Z20m

This is what happens when you take everything from a Mario game and place it inside a Mario game. It's Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS!

2014x19 Johnny vs. Super Mario 3D World

  • 2014-09-22T04:00:00Z20m

We're heading back to the Nintendo Wii U for the latest Mario game in the franchise! Four players can get in on the action this time, and the 3D Land foundation has been brought back, but does it still capture the magic of it's predecessors?

2014x20 Johnny vs. Hyrule Warriors

  • 2014-10-23T04:00:00Z20m

Omega Force requested to make Link's HYAHHs an art-form, with the result being Hyrule Warriors for the Nintendo Wii U. Of course, there's more to offer than that, but can this game find a market besides the Dynasty Warrior and Zelda demographic?

2014-11-09T05:00:00Z

2014x21 Johnny vs. Bayonetta 2

2014x21 Johnny vs. Bayonetta 2

  • 2014-11-09T05:00:00Z20m

Bayonetta is back with a new haircut and new toys, but is the new adventure worthy of it's predecessor? Let's hit the Climax with Bayonetta 2 for the Nintendo Wii U!

Sonic The Hedgehog has been placed into the hands of developers other than Sonic Team and Dimps, complete with redesigns. Is this a sign of good things to come, or do we have another statistic in the era of Modern Sonic?

Nintendo All-Stars have gathered to beat the crap out of each other in one of Nintendo's most successful franchises ever. I'm gonna spend some time reaching into my past to explain why I love this series so much, and why you should play it if you already haven't."

2014x24 Johnny vs. Freedom Planet

  • 2014-12-14T05:00:00Z20m

Indie studio Galaxytrail Games went and made their own take on a 2D Sonic game, among other call backs. That's enough to garner my attention, but is it just a good game period?

Edmund McMillen along with Nicalis have remade the 2011 classic for the PC, PS4, and Vita. Last year, I promised to look at this once it was release, since I wasn't very fond of the original game. So what's my final verdict on The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth?
