[7.4/10] Nothing groundbreaking in this one, and something of a victory lap, but I like Oliver taking a big picture look at the year since the election and Trump's tactics as a capstone to the season. Focusing on the strategies of attacking the media, whataboutism, and trolling are a little broad, but they fit, and he deploys the examples well. Emphasizing the broader damage Trump could be doing to discourse beyond his administration is a good use of the show's spotlight, as is highlighting the power of popular opposition. The all-star collection of mascots and characters from the show was amusing enough, though while Tom Hanks is obviously a get, the final Wax Harding parody bit wasn't much to write home about.

Overall, not nearly as incisive or exacting as the show usually is, but a nice 10,000 foot view to close out the season.

at first I thought I was gonna hear a bunch of trump bashing but John Oliver is so brilliant. I love this show

Disappointing to have spent the final episode of the season talking about Trump again, but at least Oliver's script for this episode acknowledged just how often the show spent its time on him with a well placed joke. Really, what else could this "season summary" episode have been about?
