i honestly miss barba most of all in the latest seasons.
Barba is my absolute favourite. With Huang and Warner being less and less involved, it breaks my heart that he's leaving. His acting was absolutely on point in this episode, too, which stings just a bit more.
First of all, it's a shame that Barba is gone.
However I question the way he was written out. Even given the background with his father, his involvement with the baby seemed out of the blue and exaggerated. Turning off that baby's life-support wasn't his call - and frankly, he should have been convicted especially since his defense was pretty flimsy. And if a random guy can go around deciding who may live and who may die, then we're pretty close to mercy killings (not just of babies that have no brain activity) and those are pretty murky waters.
So I'd have preferred if Barba didn't turn off the device himself but the mother did it - and then we'd have a trial where Barba would have to prosecute (and lose)... but we'd have a situation where Barba himself doesn't compromise himself, but still could express that change of heart like he did with Benson at the end. And frankly, the issue at hand with the baby and the parents on opposite side because one needs to hold on to hope, the other one wants to end their child's suffering would have deserved a more nuanced and direct discussion than being all about Barba in the end.
So, overall, very interesting issue, but poorly executed - and I'll miss Barba.
Barba's departure is certainly surprising, seeing as it's mid-season and there was no indication that this was coming. At least we got to see him interact a bit with Jack McCoy before he left.
I was indifferent to Barba as a character for a long time, but before I knew it, I had come to like him. It's sad to see him go. This show has had a pretty terrible track record with holding onto ADA actors, huh?
this is the episode that made me lose any and all interest in this show way back when. i respect raul’s decision to leave but losing rafael barba was honestly the worst thing that could’ve happened to svu. with all the character narratives they’ve successfully written out of the show (stabler, amaro, etc.), in my opinion this is the one they could never bounce back from. it’s a beautiful, gut-wrenching episode and a deservedly monumental send off to a beloved character. but i wish it had never been written if it meant i could have more barba and more raul
WHAT? That's the way Barba leaves? No way.
I truly detest that Barba is gone, he was absolutely remarkably fantastic.
I've never been a big fan of Barba so I'm not sad to see him leave but this was such an odd way to give him an exit. The case involving a tragically ill baby and the conflict between the parents about whether to humanely allow it to die was actually very interesting but it was completely derailed by Barba killing it, in my opinion. Still, it was terrific to see the man, the icon, the legend that is Jack McCoy again. Also, Peter Stone is very easy on the eye - I hope he's going to be Barba's replacement.
Es la primera vez que me emociono tanto con un capítulo de esta serie. No creo que pueda soportar seguir viendo los nuevos capítulos sin Barba presente.
Nooooooooo! :-( I"m sad... I like Barba a lot

I am absolutely heartbroken over Raul Esparza's departure. I kept watching after Stabler, I kept watching after Amaro... but I honestly don't know if I can keep watching with Barba gone. He had truly become my favorite part of the show.
