In his ninth comedy special, Lewis Black tears into a country that is going nowhere at the speed of light. "Old Yeller" weaves the riotous tale of a country that is so strung out on ADD that it can't see straight. In his rabid attack, Mr. Black even turns on himself--and his entire generation. From cable television to the computer, from Facebook to Twitter, Mr. Black rages about the prison we've insanely created for ourselves. He snarls at the country's failure to find alternative energy sources while creating cell phones out of the realm of science fiction. He mauls our nation's leaders for their laughably inept handling of social security and health care--and failing to provide help on any level whatsoever. As Mr. Black puts it, "What are you going to do when the Democrats are dumb, the Republicans are stupid and the Tea Party doesn't even know what day it is?" He takes what makes us crazy and makes it funny. It's a night of live comedy you won't forget. . . but if you do, it's probably because you're taking a drug that lowers your cholesterol.

Comedy Central's jittery, apoplectic commentator on all things absurd in politics and culture is superb on this disc's collection of four half-hour cable specials and bonus features. Fans and newcomers get a chance to see how much the comic has grown since his delightful 1998 show, in which Black characteristically sputtered this bit of social-scientific criticism: "It's absolutely stupid that we've lost the ozone layer. We've got men, rockets, Saran Wrap--fix it!" Black attacks Bill Clinton for obscuring the meaning of infidelity ("If curling is an Olympic sport, oral sex is adultery!"), Y2K hype, flu shots, America's power elite, Ross Perot ("He's the kid in Deliverance all growed-up!"), and even delivers a "Taxes 101" college lecture ("What would help IRS forms? Verbs!").

1x15 Thanks For Risking Your Life

  • 2020-10-06T00:00:00Z1m

We have an exciting announcement to make! It is our extreme honor to announce the release of the incomparable Lewis Black’s next stand-up special, Thanks For Risking Your Life. It’s a unique special for these unique times. On Friday, March 13th, the United States government declared a State Of Emergency – live shows were were canceled and sporting events were suspended, and life with COVID-19 began. Lewis Black was 22 dates into a national tour and found himself at a venue on sovereign Native American land. The crowd was already there, so was Lewis, so the show went on. It could very well be the last comedy special filmed before the United States went on lockdown and quarantine began. What better comedian to guide us through these Corona-induced anxiety times and voice his hilarious frustration over The-Orange-One-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named? It’s serendipitous that Black was where he was, when he was, and cameras were able to capture the moment!
