This is a terrible show with lazy and downright abhorrent writing. 1 star. Actually ... make that zero
First couple of episodes were OK, then a lot of boredom, then the last one was alright.
Wait.... These people are supposed to be some of best minds from earth, but they act like a substandard family on a boating holiday. wait.. So many simple solutions to these scientists problems don't get realised until the end of the episode. Wait... They still use the same slang as now.
'wait....... something' is used way too much.
The whole thing feels like a Saturday afternoon show, like The A-team, Knight rider or baywatch without the catchy theme tune, but looks like it should be Westworld.
20+ years ago I had to endure the original series on Sunday afternoons, if you're a 10yr old kid with only 4 possible things to watch, this is at least better than that campy, 20yr old (now 40) part sitcom thing.
Only two words are needed to describe this show: Plot armor. Plot armor for everybody. Seriously, nobody ever dies. The story, logic and writing are pathetic. What a miserable shitshow.
A few examples:
- 60 people just sitting in a camp with 4 large predators roaming around? Nobody dies or even is insured.
- Get frozen in ice with no way out and no air/energy left? Lol, have a magic robot rescuing you!
- Fight a shitload of big eels in water only with a knife? Sure, no problem! Not even a scratch.
I won't even talk about the completely retarded story. Really a shame, the cinematics are pretty good. Don't waste your time on this show.
I thought that Parker Posey was cast for the heck of it as Dr. Smith when I first heard she was cast. However since she is always good I knew she wouldn't be bad. She is a show stealer though and owns the show along with the alien robot. The show can be slow, but is much better than the 1998 movie. Due to being visually stunning, fun, well acted "but not by everyone" and feels like watching a big summer movie at home.
Better than expected
The is plot it's a little predictable, but there is a good charactarization of everybody. "Will" vive a brilliant performance ad the tormented-teen. Watch it!
Season 1 of Netflix’s Lost In Space presents a bold new vision of this classic sci-fi series. When a colonist ship is attacked by an unknown alien the Robinson family makes it to an escape ship and crash-lands on a strange planet where they have to find a way to survive. The show has a pretty good cast that gives some strong performances. And, a couple of cast members from the original series make cameos. Also, the writers do a solid job at structuring the seasonal story arc and at developing the characters. The special effects and set designs are rather impressive as well; particularly the design for the robot. A thrilling adventure, Season 1 of Lost In Space is exciting and action-packed.
Much better than I expected. Not just a bunch of people fooling around. It had real sci-fi in it, good story, not many cliches and good acting.
Possibly one of the worst reboots ever, Netflix wasted a lot of money on this painfully scripted and poorly executed story. Don't bother wasting your time, even the cgi is pretty crap.
Love this season I am just in love with every episode . And to the people who making fault of every episode , hey just try to enjoy awhile watching just imagine there emotions , how there are feeling and how will you feel if you are in there place . Well it just my opinion .
I understand it's all about the Robinsons but all the best moments are between Will and the robot, Don west is hilarious.
and "smith" well, say what you want about her, she keeps things interesting with her manipulation and scheming, she is one heck of a villain and they are hard to find in a Netflix show
It was pretty good, the visuals are carrying it a lot for me. Will is an enjoyable character to watch evolve. But I ended up being extremely annoyed by the presence of "Dr. Smith". I really could not care less about her, and I wish they ditched the character. The plot revolves around the usual and predictible cycle of "everything is okay, something happens, solve it" pretty much every episode. Sometimes the conflict is brought by an external element, sometimes by Dr. Smith (and I enjoyed the episodes with the former a lot more). I wish they ended her arc in the first few episodes, it would have been enough.
I am writing this a few episodes into the second season and seeing her still being there obviously plotting is really irritating to me, as in I may stop watching the show because of it.
I also wish the focused more on the robot's storyline, and maybe on the Resolute's as well.
a good blend of sci-fi and (family) drama
dr smith's character feels out of place with the show (but maybe this was intended) + some of the supporting characters are useless
I am hoping they will keep the writing quality the same in future seasons and finally fill in all the gaps
Great first season. I really hope they continue.
I have read the reviews currently shown and whilst you can't disagree entirely with them, I think personally some are a little harsh.
Yes, the story is maybe predictable, but, then it would be wouldn't it. It's a reboot of an old classic. It has been updated and frankly is way more realistic and plausible than the original, in my view.
the robot stole the original show and steals it again here; I would like to see more of it - perhaps thats season 2
Good enough season 1, it has its cliches and shortcomings but it's a nice show. If you have the time, give it a try.
the series is good, I loved the clever way of reacting things, sometimes a certain agony, you think "now it will work" and in fact only gets worse ... and this end was very confusing, if they at least discovered one means of communicating with the robot would be clearer.

With every episode, there were things about this that made me say, "wow!".
Sometimes I was saying that in regards to the incredible visuals on screen, which are truly top quality and show incredible creativity and imagination. Other times I was saying it in regards to the unbelievable plot, ridiculous characters and insane happenstances that plagued it from beginning to end.
This really is one of the worst written shows currently. The characters are endlessly bland and meaningless, the plot is completely contrived and each episode just flows from one disaster to the next which our characters manage to miraculously escape from every single time.
Then part of me remembers that this is a kid's show, or at least a family show, and I have to give it some leeway. It betrays that at times by including some moderately adult elements (violence, gore, language, punchable characters), but always snaps back to being "safe". The focus on the children as the main characters is very much to the detriment of things, as they are all quite annoying (despite being generally strong actors). Will in particular seems to be either emotional or on the verge or tears in every single one of his scenes. Reign it in a bit please, writers.
In the end, this show wasn't made for me. It's for older kids/young teens who still enjoy reading YA novels about heroic kids saving the world. I know it's somewhat constrained by following the parameters of the original TV show, but one of the kids here is a FULLY TRAINED DOCTOR. I don't know how I'm supposed to approach that.
Then we have the appalling Dr. Smith, who derails every scene she's in with pure nonsense. She exists purely to be a spanner in the works with no genuine reasoning behind it. The human colonists are a bunch of morons who are supposed to all be geniuses, but are far more interested in their selfish needs and egos and don't behave as any kind of highly trained group.
It certainly wasn't all bad, and most episodes did have moments that made me want to pay attention and know what's going to happen next but it's got no depth whatsoever, and I'm genuinely bummed about that because I was really excited about watching this.
