It truly hurts to agree that, in order to be happy and move on, you need to detach for others, specially close and loved ones that keep dragging you down. It’s a hard reality that this show portraits brilliantly in this episode. I ended on a roller coaster of emotions, between happy, sad and hopeful. Thank you for this great ending.
I thought the father giving up his daughter at the last minute was too convenient. Didn't buy it.

The whole show was an emotional rollercoaster but so good from beginning to end. The actors should get all the awards and the writers too. I also loved the soundtrack and really liked this final episode and how the story was broight to its end.
The only problem with the show was them pulling the punch when it came to Sean, because IRL that bastard would've definitely done much worse all the way through. The whole "he was violent but not directly" ends up being just a way to tie it in a nice little bow (so that we can come to a peaceful enough resolution in the end) rather than what I think was the intention of showing that emotional abuse can be just as serious. On the other hand, the portrayal of alcoholism was very good, mixing the raw and harsh realities of different phases and different people. I can't really tell if the mom's problems and behavior were well portrayed but from Alex's POV it was the greatest in showing a full range of possible reactions up until that bittersweet resolution. For someone with so little time, energy and money, she did the best she could, and then some.
After all this, i still say Sean is not totally rotten. He can change and he has changed before, he just needs Alex and Maddie's support. I don't need a season 2 for this show since it ended well but i will assume that Sean changed, went to look for Alex and Maddie and they lived happily ever after XD He actually let them off easy because she would've not been able to go to Missoula had he not gave Alex full custody of Maddie. If he was that much of a hateful bastard and really out to make life difficult for Alex he could easily just delay the case and ruin her opportunity. All in all, the shows not too bad and i'm happy with the ending ^^

I watch this a lot more peacefully knowing Stefanie Land (wrote the memoir this is based on) had her happy ending.
