Malibu, CA is an American teen sitcom television program produced by Saved by the Bell creator Peter Engel that aired from 1998 to 2000 on syndication. Co-created by Engel and Carl Kurlander, the show centred around the lives of twin brothers Scott and Jason Collins, who move to Malibu, California from New York City to live with their father, Peter. Guest appearances on the show included Dennis Haskins, Scott Whyte and Marissa Dyan from City Guys, Daniella Deutscher from Hang Time, and model Victoria Silvstedt. The series was one of two post-Saved by the Bell: The College Years series executive produced by Peter Engel that did not air on NBC's TNBC lineup, USA High being the other. Prior to the 2012 premiere of The First Family, Malibu, CA was the last situation comedy to be broadcast for the first-run syndication market.

Samantha's best friend Jennifer, or ""Stads"" as she's better known, starts developing a crush on Jason. Samantha is trying to stop Murray Updyke's rich father from drilling for oil near the beach, and to impress her, the boys plan to hold a fund-raiser for her campaign. The party is held at the Lighthouse on a night when Mr. Collins is away, and it quickly gets out of control, finally being broken up by the fire marshall. Peter Collins returns to find the mess the boys made. Finally, the boys talk their father into buying it and putting Murray in charge. Also, Stads has to fight off the amorous advances of a guy she rescued from drowning.

Peter returns home early and the boys are desperate to replace the fish. Melanie prevails on her father to forgo the outdated ""men only"" rule, making Stads and Jason the winners of the bet and the tourney's prize, a jet ski. They secretly snap a photo of Jessie and Scott, but the tabloid editor won't pay up until he gets some dirt to print about Scott. Meanwhile paparazzi descend upon the Collins home and Jessie thinks that Scott betrayed her. Stads and Jason admit what they did, but say that they didn't turn the picture over to the editor. The two disguise themselves as Scott and Jessie and lead the photographers on a wild goose chase, while the real Scott and Jessie enjoy a last moment together.

Samantha and Jason are unable to get out of the car. Stads' intuition tells her that there is trouble and she alerts a rescue patrol. Trapped in the car, Jason and Samantha talk about their feelings for each other. After spending the night in the car, the two are awakened by the movement of another load of mud. Startled, Samantha instinctively grabs ahold of Jason, then the two of them kiss. Stads leads the rescue party that frees the trapped couple. Later, she and Jason go out for a romantic dinner. He tells Stads about the kiss, which causes her to break off her relationship with him.

They concoct a scheme to make her change her opinion. Michele has no intention of taking the boys away, but when she and Peter find out about the planned deception, they devise a little plot of their own and let the boys twist in the wind awhile.

When Scott and Jason hear that Murray's father has given him a $20,000 campaign contribution, they quickly volunteer to be his campaign managers. The boys aren't interested in the election, though; they're spending the money strictly to impress girls. Haskins finds out about their actions and threatens to expose them if Murray wins. Now Jason and Scott try to rig the election so that Haskins will win. When the results come in, Murray wins despite their efforts. He proposes a new road to go around the tree stump, then resigns as mayor. Jason then concocts a plan to impersonate the Dude and advise Holly to break up with her boyfriend, and she does. But later Jason is confronted by Holly's angry ex. He trusts his new employee to open up the restaurant, but when he and Scott show up the next morning, they find the guy has robbed the place. Everything is going disastrously during the critics' visit, but just before he leaves in disgust, Jason, who has swallowed his pride, and Scott come to the rescue with some good food. Samantha and Stads think cheerleading is demeaning to women, so they plan to go to the tryouts as candidates but stage a protest when they get there. Scott gets another audition, but this time he's had so much caffeine beforehand that he ends up dancing on the tables. Charlie tries it and soon becomes a total beach bum, turning down the military school job. Meanwhile, Traycee has two tickets to a Beastie Boys concert. Also, Traycee slips on the Lighthouse's wet floor (ignoring a ""Wet Floor"" sign) in order to get on a commercial for a lawyer who specializes in personal injury lawsuits. Scott isn't happy with the lie until he see that it impresses Lisa. She introduces him to Gary of the UCLA swim team and a race is arranged. Lisa catches Scott in a lie trying to get out of the race. He starts training more determinedly. Scott loses the race, but Lisa is impresses with his effort. Scott decides to train seriously for the Olympic trials. Meanwhile, Traycee is up for the role of Dr. Sheila Lowenstein on ""Malibu Hospital,"" and she gets it. Peter is concerned when his symptoms mirror those of a character on the show who went into a coma. Also, Stads and Jason have a tough time living up to their new ""honesty"" pact.

Jason sells his laptop to buy a new guitar for Stads' lifeguard benefit concert. When Mr. Collins tries to warn Jason about Jesse, he accuses his father of being jealous because he couldn't make it as a musician. Jesse flakes on Stads and the benefit concert when his band gets a paying gig. Jason is crushed by Jesse's actions. He begins to doubt his own talent but his father encourages him. They quickly find out--it's the floor show featuring the sexy ""Cocont-a-Go-Go Girls."" They also find out that Murray has been there 21 nights in a row! Business is so bad for the Lighthouse that Peter may default on a loan. Murray offers to use some of his trust fund money to help out. Peter is reluctant, but he lets Murray become part owner. Mr. Collins wants to make a commercial for the Lighthouse, but it's Murray's money doing the talking as he directs a silly pirate-themed ad. Peter decides to shut down the Lighthouse. Jason comes up with a sceme to put the Aloha out of business. Murray will apply for a job there as a ""Coconut Girl"" and force a lawsuit. To make her feel even worse, her hair dryer was responsible for an apartment fire. Stads comes by the Collins house feeling much better because she's decided to go to work in Europe for a year. Jason is jolted by this news. He prepares a romantic outdoor candlelight dinner and asks her to stay. She tells him no, that he can come with her. Jason doesn't want to leave his music career behind at this moment. After Stads departs for Europe, Jason says he's alright, but all his songs are about her.
