That just felt weird. Luke is the main character of the show (it's his show duh!) but still every other character in it is better developed and constructed than Luke himself. Everyone is walking that fine line between good and evil, I get it, but Mariah and Luke were a bit too close for my taste. How is he just gonna take over the criminal empire of an unscrupulous murderer like her?
Well, that was a pile of pure shit!
That was a nice homage to The Godfather towards the end, but the way Luke talked to Misty was too much of an abrupt shift in character. I know Mariah hoped the club would corrupt Luke, but I figured that would happen slowly during season 3, not two minutes later in this episode.
So you mean to tell me that after all that fighting and battles you going to turn around and become the very same thing you fighting... ridiculous.
Damn. Did not expect that!
The ending made no sense to me. Why would Luke Cage suddenly be about keeping crime out of the backyard but not stopping it, or acting like a ruler rather than the humble man he's been throughout the series, now appearing all arrogant rather than forgiving? It was a complete transformation just within one episode.
I don't know why the Marvel series on Netflix have the worst kind of endings and quick transformations of good into bad this year. Think of Jessica Jones and Trish there, as well as the ending. I would easily have named this season of Cage one of the best of Netflix' Marvel series, had this episode put Tilda as the queen of Paradise and left Luke alone. We would still wonder what her approach is to be, as we would about the future of Shades and Bushmaster.
What a horrible ending, should of ended last episode for sure!
A longer episode to tie the endings. Didn't need to be that long honestly. The same could have been done in normal length.
No real news from Bushmaster, that's sad. Mariah dies, of course that's great.
Shades' appearance was very cool, as usual, as he deliver last speeches to Mariah and Luke. And the fact that he get screwed because Mariah is dead is actually a nice twist.
Now for the ending. Well, I'm conflicted. This looks like a great idea. But it makes absolutely no sense.
First, we just see him say "burn it down"... and then he didn't. That's a really shitty editing to have kept that.
When D-Dub is making his speech about Luke being the new crime lord, I was like "what ? but that's not what he's been doing at all, right ?" But apparently it is ? And boom, he then immediately turns into kingpin ? How does that holding this position actually does the job he was doing ? Who the fuck is really managing the club ? (though we didn't really see any business people before either). Does he get money from guns, or maybe just a cut from the other's business ? He's definitely not smart enough for that anyway. And just kicking Claire out ?
Maybe if this was something that had been really developed, but that doesn't fit either Luke's past, personality or skills. It's a total 180.
They were also probably setting up Tilda to be next season's villain, which would have probably been even worse than Mariah, and again, a complete turnaround for the character. How come everybody that hates Mariah just become her in the last 5 minutes ?
That state lawyer looked stupid and what kind of court was that? The whole scenario was poor.
So Luke is hurting white people more badly and enjoying it.Sugar and Luke, talking looking at the sunrise was good. That song was good but the expressions were dead.
I'm very happy that Mariah died.Misty's new hairstyle looks bad when she is on duty.
Tilda is doing same thing like Mariah running from her name.
Luke gets Harlem paradise.I thought Luke will burn the club and build Heroes for Hire over it.
Carbone's house... Looks like in Mr. Robot.
Season finale. They do what they have to do, I hope they do not do what they do not have to do. They have taken a road, will they follow it? If the series lasted 8 chapters instead of 13, it would improve a lot
Is the actor playing Maria that bad or is the character really written that badly? Anyway for me she really ruined the season. Shame.
Ehhhh. Knowing going in it was the series finale and not the season finale, and also knowing it wasn't intended to be, I looked at this episode like "That's it?" So if we never see Luke Cage again, which we might not, do we just assume he turned his back on who he used to be? Even if that could be an interesting concept, it didn't make sense for his character and puts a pretty sour end on the show and his story.
Oh well, Thanos snapped him anyway (as confirmed by Mike Colter), so his reign couldn't have lasted long.
Such a disappointing ending to an enjoyable show...
What a terrible episode and ending to a good Season. From what I just saw, next season (if Disney + revives the series) Tilda will be the evil one. Apparently, it did not seem to her that Luke Cage was the heir of Harlem's Paradise and the new Harlem sherrif. And it will be an evil character who will not have a good real reason to be bad, she will be an angry stupid character just like Joy Meachum in the last season of IF.
Mariah, now in custody, suffers the consequences of all her convicted crimes. Violence is on the rise in Harlem and Mariah believes she's the only one that can restore order. Bushmaster is still weak and Tilda is helping him recover. Shades visits Luke and passes on information about how to find Bushmaster and put an end to this violence. Meanwhile, as Mariah adapts to her new surroundings, she is attacked by a few prisoners who are then killed by another group of prisoners. Mariah, showing her "graitude," then kills one of the prisoners and makes plans to escape. She then speaks with her lawyer and sends out an order to have everyone who's ever worked for her killed. Her personal assistant is even one of the casualties. Tilda creates a poison to put on her lips and she kisses Mariah on the lips during her prison visit. A while later, it kicks in and Mariah dies while Luke is there to see her. Now that she is dead, Shades agreement with the cops is no longer valid and he is arrested by Misty. The last we see of Bushmaster is that he is weak but now at peace knowing that Mariah is dead. DW tells Luke he can no longer work out of Pop's shop and Luke acquires Harlem's Paradise in Mariah's will. Tilda is pissed with this news and it seems like she will let the evil inside her take over and she even changes her last name. Misty fears that Luke may be consumed by this power too but it doesn't stop him. He takes over the club believing that it's the only way he can protect Harlem by having a birds eye view. One of the last scenes is Luke and Sugar talking in the bar and Luke says, "Tell Claire to go home." (I actually screamed when he said that. Why Luke??)
"That's what defines being a man. That's what defines being a hero." Chills!! RIP Reg E. Cathey. I heard about his dead earlier this year. He did a terrific job in this season.
This season overall had some interesting elements for use of characters and character development and a gripping story that never loses it's focus. Outstanding performances (again) for Luke, Misty, Mariah and Shades. Despite how the season ends with Luke's decision to take over the club, it'll be interesting to see what happens next for Luke and the other heroes in NY with the continuing overlap of all these powerful characters in the Marvel Netflix series.

I beg to differ. That was probably one of the best plot twists I've seen. It shows the complexity of hero/villain and proves that not everything is black or white but rather grey, and sometimes you need to change the whole boat rather than mildy adding soft touches to fix holes on a broken boat.
