Dragoon is always a hilarious treat
Also, I can't help but think that even without Morgana's interference, healing Uther would end in disaster. He was on his death bed, and as the show has demonstrated in matters such as this, there must be a life for a life - Uther living would kill someone else to keep the world in balance. And I know if I was writing the show, the traded life would probably be Gaius (father figure for a father) or Arthur (Pendragon for a Pendragon).
I have never been a great fan of Uther, but I do feel sorry for Arthur as I lost my father and I can guess what he is going through, particularly as he blames himself for Uther's death. Especially as Uther seemed to be getting better and not only was he present at the birthday party but also could fight the assassin that attacked Arthur and finally defeat him. If it had not been for the wound, I guess Uther would continue to get better and he could still be king.
The episode was very varied as the scenes related to the disease and death of Uther were naturally sad and moving, though Merlin as the old sorcerer - definitely hilarious. He made a bold and risky move to help the king and at the same time restore the magical community to Arthur's good graces, and would have been successful if it had not been for Morgana's plotting. Maybe it was some sort of mistake on Merlin's side to use the king's disease to further the agenda of his people? Both Arthur and Merlin end up blaming themselves for Uther's death, and Merlin with all his hopes for better future for magical people crushed.
The crowning ceremony is really sad and solemn, Arthur is finally king but he does not rejoice as it is only possible because his father had died. Though of course you can never be prepared for the death of a loved one, no matter what.

frustrating that, despite whatever rebuttal Merlin did deliver to Arthur in mild defense of the sorcerer's involvement, it's moot since Merlin does not also go so far as to correct Arthur's mischaracterization in which magic was stated as the CAUSE of Uther's death where in fact, UHH, HELL NO: the jester/dagger-entertainment-guy (because of Odin, because of Odin's son's death, because of Uther) is what CAUSED Uther's death; MAGIC, on the other hand, is what gave Arthur the only available HOPE/chance to perhaps AVOID that death that was caused by something ELSE :unamused:. annoying to hear misstatements of what happened go uncorrected, especially when their incorrectness makes all the difference in the world.
