Phil Dunphy is absolutely amazing. You can work round the forced, patronising sentimentality quite quickly - but when it hits the funny bone...boy, it hits the funny bone.

This show is the best sitcom currently on TV. With the colourful characters, and their responses to each other, whether silent, verbal, or physical... You can tell there is love, competition, jealousy, sarcasm, and inclusion (or lack thereof). Like someone else said, this show is better for those who watch consecutive episodes, rather than sporadic bits here and there from different seasons...
Dreadful? You may not like it, but 'dreadful' is an idiotic term to use for it.
There are so many things I could say about Modern Family but I'll try to synthetize: I don't think it has the rewatchability of Friends but it has SO MUCH heart. Some characters are just the nicest people you'll see on TV and it is quite amazing to see the growth of the actors, especially the kids. There is a huge chance that you'll find at least one character you can identify with. (I'm such a Claire but then I absolutely adored Gloria, Phil and Haley).
Now, there's a serious drop in quality in the middle of the run and the humour just runs out but try to stick with it, it gets better again. As the kids grow up, the dynamics shift and it has a hard time adjusting before finding its groove again.
I watch it when I need to get cheered up. In a way it's a family I turn to when no one is around...thank you for saving me a lot of times. I'm grateful this show exists. Acting is superb and I love how awkward it is, just like me sometimes haha. 10/10!

I don't grow up with this show, heck I just found out about it when the show already at season 5. So I marathon until I can catch-up with the latest episode back then. And it was the best decision I ever made. Everything about this show is so perfect, the cast, the joke, the drama, and the life lesson. I really wish that maybe, one day, I can have my own version of Modern Family.
I really can't believe this show gonna end
Probably the greatest comedy sitcom of all time. I would usually say The Office is on top, but unlike The Office, this doesn't ever drop in quality. The writing is a masterpiece all round. The casting is top-notch, the type where you can't imagine anyone else playing the role. The cameos and jokes are exquisite, and the acting is perfectly dramatic, even from the kids. The characters and morals are so emotionally fueled that everyone can relate to so many situations. Ahhh, I miss shows having this much quality in genius. I want a reunion every year since we can't have it every day.
Love it, though I have to admit there's not a single "normal" gay and it's really harmful to the queer community, even with one of the lead actresses being a Trans.
Everyone is so sissy, trashy and overdrawn.
I rate it "Sofia Vergara, has anyone checked for a penis" out of ten.

Good to kill time but nothing deep
The show started really well, with most of the characters being likeable, but the quality gradually decreases and now at season 7 I'm hardly ever laughing. It's still absolutely watchable, but not for the laughs, rather for the actual development of the characters and the positivity.
Parks & Recreation, a superior mockumentary show, ended right where it should have, while Modern Family seems to be going for the money rather than ending on a good note.
In terms of quality, I think about half of the characters are getting less and less likeable, too. Luke especially lost all the fun. Gloria was funny for a season or two.
Phil, though, for you I'd stay for another 20 seasons or 30.
Also, too many incest jokes. Not funny.

I really enjoy this show. Some of the scenes are laugh out loud funny and many others make you chuckle to yourself. As someone who seems to have been immunized against the 'humour' of Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory its a relief to find a show like this.
Ty Burrell as Clive Bixby on his rendezvous cracks me up.
Great show to the very end. Will be missed.

All the kid actors are terrible but it's still funny. This is a great show to watch if you just want to relax and laugh.

The first 3 seasons are great, then the decline begins, with the last 2/3 horrible seasons under the banner of political correctness
An excellent sitcom. Even after 11 years, they still managed to keep it fun and sweet.
I really love this show. A modern classic comedy.
But the one thing that struck me rewatching it all back to back is if this show is an ad for anything, it's for the concept of having a family. Given the subject matter, and title, I guess that shouldn't be a surprise, but it becomes very apparent when viewed as a whole. So many of the biggest emotional beats of the series are framed around the classics of getting married and having children. So if that doesn't jive with you, then this series might not either.
Also, it's odd that Lily gets almost no screen-time and nothing to do until the last season, given that earlier seasons featured the other kids much more, even from a much younger age.
Very Funny and entertaining Show just a few story lines I didn't like one of them being Dylan and Haley have kids together.
This is something that is funny and charming wrapped up in a beautiful sitcom. I loved all the characters for the most part, however some of them did end up becoming mere caricatures by the last episode, (Mani, Cam, Mitch - I'm looking at you).
The show like all sitcoms had its ups and downs but I feel that it remained solid without and it had batches of episodes that just hit one after the other. We got so many beautiful moments throughout these 11 seasons like Cam and Mitch getting married, Hayley announcing she's pregnant, Claire taking over Pritchetts closets from Jay, Lily expressing how she wants to be more like her father's (and so much more). Like all sitcoms this does have some episodes that may toe the line but it's all in the name of fun and light entertainment. This is one I will probably return to in the future.

Finished this for the first time today. I really loved it. Despite the many seasons, I think they gave it justice! This has been my company every time I eat lunch, and this was a great run. Wished some were different but they were nice nonetheless.
it is hard to do 11 seasons while keeping it funny but they did it. Don't let the long run time scare you, binged the whole thing. Especially recommended if you like word play.
this was a rewatch. mostly on in the background. entertaining enough, but a lot of the jokes didn't age too well.

I love modern family SOO MUCH it’s one of my favorite series, THOUGH i hate the fact that they make Mitchell’s and Cam’s whole identity being gay. Like the only thing they talk about is how gay they are which is so frustrating to me. I’m a gay guy and im of course proud of it, but that doesn’t mean it has to be my whole identity.
What can I say about a show where every single character is my favourite. There are no favourites, each beautiful unique person on this show makes it the warmest and kindest show. Quotes galore and physical comedy to boot.
This family made up for the lack of my own family .

i do enjoy this show, one of the few I'll watch repeatedly. and maybe that's why recurring flaws bother me. some of the characters are very cliché, although not as much as i expected before ever seeing an episode. and many of them are so godawful annoying, none more than claire. idk if it's her character or the way julie bowen portrays her. just way too exaggerated. and they can all be so selfish, yet the writers attempt to make us sympathetic to em.
phil trying to create a special memory with alex by making a pregnant woman deliver her baby while waitressing. umm, what about her memory of giving birth? sounds like it should be special. hailey saying she dated andy when he was fat - they give awards to people like her, yet cries about her scientist boyfriend for making her feel bad about herself? shelly long was the most underrated character, so of course they ruin her.
maybe I'm taking it far too seriously. but again, the show tries to make you connect with these characters, and then makes them not just flawed but irredeemable. and they rely far too much on trips to invent storylines. of course, with so many episodes, new characters and settings have to be introduced. sitcoms, like seinfeld, did it all the time with dating partners
you see why i insisted that i truly do enjoy the show. familiarity breeds contempt. haven't watched it much lately, but still a favorite
Mitch and Cam's relationship is as toxic as ever until the last season, some characters are just mean, and there are many plots with no follow-up. But the show has a lot of heartwarming and wonderful moments, and a great cast that I still binge it.
I have been watching clips and random episodes of the show for years now. And decided to watch the complete series in the lockdown and damn was it worth it. Very well-written and funny. The finale though couldn't justify the beauty of the show.

Modern family is definetly one of the greatest shows out there at the moment, up there with breaking bad and the sopranos and ahs.
It's one of the funniest shows of this time. Phil Dunphy is one of the best in my opinion but it's hard to pick one leading funny character because they all have their charms.

Great comedy. A little predictable and tiring at times and that camera is less than great and adds nothing to be proud there producers... but has great moments and thus recommended.

It took my quite some time before i took the time to watch this show, and i should be ashamed of myself. Ed O'Neil should have been the nr 1 reason i should have watched this from episode 1, as Married....With Children is my all time favorite sitcom. So after Netflix cancelled Lost 5 days after i got a trial, i had to watch something else, and Modern Family caught my eye. Started watching it, and it took my 2 days to watch first season. Should tell you something about how i fell for this show.
So here's my final thoughts. If you want a show that is funny, and all about those akward moments, this is the show for you. Plust its really different from the usual comedy on TV nowadays, and there is no laugh track at all, and thats just so god damn awesome. I freaking hate laugh tracks more then i hate the stuff that i really hate, with passion. So take an afternoon and enjoy the first few episodes, and that should be enough to drag you in!

Modern Family does what's best in comedy: subtle awkward situations that make you laugh uncontrollably, even though if someone sees the same scene as you, they will never get why and how it's funny. You can't judge Modern Family based on some episodes seen sporadically, no, you'll have to go from the start and watch all of it, for the comedy to become apparent to you.
