Motherland: Fort Salem 2020

It's a tragedy that more people don't know about this show already. This has to be one of the best shows to come out in the last five years or so.

Over the past few years most of the 'good' shows (ie - shows that have been running for a long time) have ended and there's been a huge void with nothing to replace them - but I think Motherland has the potential to be one of those shows.

Right from the beginning, the storytelling is clear and captivating, there's a rich foundational history with much more to discover, and new elements are introduced at the right time so there's no confusion about how things work.

The actresses are all doing a phenomenal job. I love Raelle's character and her raw badassery, Abigail is exactly the type of person I'd want to have on my team in a fight, and Tally is so genuinely good and kind that you can't help but love her.

I'm really excited for the future of this show and the cast.

I want expecting much when it came up as a suggestion in my prime lists.

if you're a homophob, not for you.
if you're not into girl power, strong women, not for you.
if you're racist, not going to be for you.

if you like fantasy, crossed with "crime" solving, military-ish with superwomen? you're in luck.

it's surprisingly engaging. charmed with a while lot more kick-assery going on.

Strike Witches did it better.

I have issues with a good bit of the writing and some other aspects of this show, but Idc I'm an absolute sucker for these characters like you would not believe

Motherland: Fort Salem is a show that is built upon an interesting premise, with the accompanying world-building and believable characters helping to make the viewing experience enjoyable. As a whole, I have praise for the series overall, but I have some criticism for some aspects of the show, which while doesn't detract from the overall experience, doesn't necessarily help with it either. For those that know, that final scene with General Aldar in Season 3 was...what was that....Like respect to the cast and crew for working on this show for 3 seasons, but the CGI and special effects truly were distracting at times. It was genuinely bearable for a good amount of the show, but I'm guessing producers were ambitious with Season 3 but the special effects couldn't keep up. Must have been a studio or money issue, since the special effects were embarrassing, even in the final stretch of the series. I still really enjoyed the show, so I would recommend it, but it has its shortcomings.

the first season was really engaging i love alternative history books and stories and this didn't let me down plot wise.
story wise it took a turn south last ½ of season 2 and then in season 3 character development passed it in the race south.
but as far as a story plot.. i loved it
if this is based off a book series i would love to read it.

I am gutted it has ended is there gunner be any spin offs. the layout of the title suggest they might do. I have my fingers and toes crossed.

A good basic idea of an alternative world and relatable characters. That is what is left from this show in the end. However, the third and final season felt like a dying person, i.e. getting weaker and weaker by the time. For me personally, it became more and more embarrassing in the last episodes. Because it was obvious that the creators of this show ran out of ideas and money. Anyway, I do not regret having watched this for some time now. I just wish it was better in so many aspects.

Cool idea in the hands of someone without enough experience, budget and imagination to execute it. Mediocre show, from start to finish.

There's no way three seasons is going to do it for me. I want mooooore!

Why do these shows always bring on some cheesy villain who constantly makes it out alive? This one is really bad because the guy just cannot act. It's like watching a really bad Syfy movie whenever he's on screen.

:heart:x7
This turned out to be really good. This is an alternate America where it appears that Women are the ones in power. It was interesting to see that a Matriarchy did not solve the world's problems. The women in power are just as bad as men in the real world.
That aside, the rest of the show was really good and by the end, I wanted more. But it is not meant to be :(

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

I was warded away from this series by its unappealing poster and description of the story. Nothing about either appealed to me. But, spurred on by recommendations, I started watching it two days ago and became completely caught up in the characters, the direction and the plot, and, therefore, binged the first season in a day and the second season today. When the cliffhanger is picked up in the next season, I will probably rewatch the first two seasons again but, alas, that may be a year or so in the waiting. I give this series an 8 (binge worthy) out of 10 [Fantasy Drama]

This has to be the best show that no one knows about it is seriously under rated I just wish there was a book series as they always give more detail. But this is a new magic system and magic is public it is going to be great along as it doesn't get cancelled

Very very very well worked this series, and especially the potential it has.

A turn of the screw very well carried out and without falling into certain situations unlike other series.

A majority of women in the main cast, a few men assuming secondary roles but well managed.

Very good theme, good photography and a good cast.

A highly recommended series.

I could have ended the spree war in the first episode. Uber eats them a delivery of Popeyes biscuits with no drinks.

War won

Gets better as the story develops, but is geared toward more of a YA audience.
Interesting alternative view of history.

Very entertaining fantasy and science fiction series. It has touches of adolescent history. Waiting for new chapters.

First 5 episodes are shitty and will make you want to stop watching. By episode 6 things get better. And episode 7 onwards, the show really picks up.

Great worldbuilding in this series, I do appreciate when writers make an effort to produce a consistant backstory to add depth to scifi and fantasy.
I really enjoyed it, and am looking forward to the next season.

I just finished the first episode. I can't believe how much character development went into the first episode. So far the material is fresh and current. The acting and special effects are far and away better than most shows in the past decade. Keeping politics out of this, the show is about the U.S. military and it's struggle against an encroaching terrorist group called the Spree. The twist is that the U.S. military is comprised solely of witches. The Spree seem to be comprised of witches as well. I'm interested to see where this series goes.

The lesbian stuff is overblown not that it mattered. It was a little bit light on character development, but there wasn’t much time before the action started, so I was okay with how it was handled. The show moves at a quick pace and good story line as far as I’m concerned. I loved it. Definitely worth a watch.

Despite the season preview at the end of the pilot previewing some intriguing "witchy" scenes ahead I think I'm going to pass. Wasn't certain beforehand how YA oriented this will be but from what I've seen that is certainly the target audience (if I had known it would air on Freeform I wouldn't have bothered - just thought that this being at SXSW would mean something different..).
Lots of stuff gets skipped over or is handled superficially which is weird for a show declaring sisterhood/their squad to be something crucial.

OMG, teen melodrama on witchcraft fantasy genre background. Overall story excruciatingly boring. Coming of age stuff, is caretural. It's bad.
