I am rather dissapointed in this show. The comic books are about an awesome character. This is a teen drama about some whiny teens one of which has some "magic" when it's useful.
I agree, girl is too whiney and best friend keeps calling her babe....I never called my best friend "babe"!! weird!
Once more Hollywood ran out of ideas, so they rehashed the same mediocre story again.
Why its always the teenager that get powers? Why not 40-something mother of five?

Well. This show has just been canceled. It had potential, but they blew it.
This was the longest origin story I've ever seen. I think this was possibly trying to be another Smallville. But with Smallville, we already had and knew the entire origin story, and that show was filling in how he came into his own while learning to control all of his powers.
Here, we have a relatively new character, one that I was unfamiliar with. I think if they had told the origin story in 3 or 4 episodes and then moved on from there this show may have been renewed. Oh well.

The main character is unreasonably well liked. With all the other extraordinary things happening in the show, I just can't get past the fact that everyone loves her unconditionally. Any hint of conflict is immediately ended with a smile and a lack of any interpersonal issues between the characters cheapens their relationships and makes the show feel childish and fake. Your best friend wants to be your boyfriend? Conflict ended in a few minutes and no resentment at all. The class president is putting healthy food in the vending machines? Don't worry, Naomi is so popular with literally everyone she's immediately put up by the entire student body to address the issue in an incredibly cheesy scene, and solves the problem with an impassioned speech while befriending and complimenting her rival. Even the vaguely threatening relationship with Zumbado, the only real antagonist of the show so far, doesn't feel as dangerous as the narrative wants it to be, because he's pretty nice to Naomi. There's so much potential here for another Stargirl that's aimed at younger audience without talking down to them but they've missed the mark.
