Was I supposed to laugh? Were there like, jokes, written in there somewhere? I'm reminded of Kroll Show, but at least I've laughed at Nick Kroll as a person in other showings. I do not understand this "absurdist ironic mockery" that's held up as "comedy" today. I feel I must echo other sentiments in how this feels "cringy" like Saturday Night Live when they stopped looking for actually funny people and thought half-assed sketches and brand recognition would win. There's no voice, no perspective. The first episode goes after the easiest most cliched tropes. Oh, you're a pop star trying to find love? I wonder if several series and mockeries haven't already been made about that...Burning Love, Unreal, basically any time someone is missing 5 minutes from their sketch show. A redneck! An immature boy! The awkward stripper made me crack a small, quickly diminished, smile. Like giving a Youtube "star" too much money and better camera equipment. A "caricature" is not a "character." If you're only going to play cracked out versions of bad Halloween costumes you'll have to forgive me for not seeing what's funny. Pulling off the "crazy all the time super awkward" type of comedy takes a very particular kind of person who's skin you can't just crawl into when you can't understand it's them who can pull it off, not you.
