The Nitro World Games is an annual extreme sports event organized by Nitro Circus. The event was originally held in 2016 at Rice–Eccles Stadium, and moved to the Utah Motorsports Campus in 2018. With the announcement of the Nitro World Games, a new action sports competition that will feature the best athletes competing in the most popular disciplines, Nitro Circus Live creator Mike Porra is seeing the realization of an idea he's spent years cultivating. He and Travis Pastrana have created a competition to reinvigorate the world of action sports— a one-night televised event where seven gold medals will be awarded in FMX, BMX, skateboard, inline, and scooter during a single three-hour broadcast with live scoring and absolutely no filler moments. In a sense, it's like the Action Sports Olympics.

It took two of the most badass athletes out there - Bruce Cook and Gregg Duffy.

Josh Sheehan is the only person to ever land a triple backflip on a motorcycle, and spoiler alert: That's No. 1 on this list. We're fine revealing that, because it would be a lot weirder if it wasn't, and it never gets old watching it happen. But the other eight moments in this video are also great. They're vintage Sheeny, and the majority require the type of athlete with the skills and bravery to land the most impossible tricks in FMX.

In 2015, two of the biggest moments in action sports happened a week apart: the first-ever triple backflip on a motorcycle and the first-ever quadruple backflip on BMX. Josh Sheehan landed the FMX triple backflip, while Jed Mildon and James Foster competed to be the first to land the first-ever BMX quad backflip. This is the wild story of how both of those historic action sports moments happened in the same week at Travis Pastrana's house, known as Pastranaland.

Nitro World Games was built on the idea that action sports competition should be about skill, progression, and entertainment in equal measure, and the inaugural event delivered on all counts thanks to Travis Pastrana's visionary leadership. In July 2016, top athletes in FMX, BMX, skate, scooter, and inline brought their A-game to Salt Lake City, Utah, and threw down, looking to etch their names in the history books at the inaugural Nitro World Games. Standout moments include Ryan Williams, a rider known for his scooter skills, competing in his first-ever BMX competition and winning it all. Kurtis Downs secured second in that event with a World First backflip quad tailwhip. And to cap off the night, Gregg Duffy landed the World First FMX double frontflip. When the dust settled, dozens of firsts went down in a three-hour span, and a new contender for the definitive global action sports competition was born.

This is the story of how Bruce Cook, a rising FMX star, suffered a catastrophic injury that would have ended most riders' desire to ever want to ride again, let alone continue an FMX career. Bruce broke his back and became paralyzed while attempting to land the first-ever double frontflip on a motorcycle. Despite a grim prognosis, he made it his goal to get back on the bike and break more records despite his permanent injury.

This action-packed, completely unpredictable competition drew competitors from across the action sports world. Eleven teams of two riders battled it out. The event featured a purpose-built course designed by Nitro’s expert mechanic Hubert Rowland, with a new event format championed by Jarred "JT" Taylor, all set at Travis’ legendary Pastranaland home compound.

Travis Pastrana will face off against his former teammate, the legendary Ryan Sipes, in an action-packed clash to top the podium. Except this time, the battle has shifted to Sipes’ home turf in rural Kentucky. The riders must prove they have what it takes in four completely different disciplines: Almost Straight Rhythm, Flat Track, Super Cross, and Hare Scramble. And they will have to do it all on completely stock 110’s. Without any horsepower or high-tech advantages between them, the athletes must rely on only their talent and tenacity in order to come out on top…
