Young journalist Zoika, nicknamed "Paparazzi", turns out to be an unwitting witness to a conspiracy to murder her colleague, journalist Krasnoutsky. She fails to convince the investigating authorities, the staff of the editorial office in which the murdered man worked, that this is not an accidental death. And she begins her own journalistic investigation, during which she almost dies herself. An opera led by Dukalis comes to her rescue.
The wife of a well-known businessman Nikitin makes a statement to the police about her husband's disappearance. Almost simultaneously with this, in a small town not far from St. Petersburg, the corpse of a man similar to the missing Nikitin was found. The identification carried out proves that the killed person is the very businessman Nikitin. But the circumstances in which he found himself before his death seem very strange: a local homeless man saw a silver Mercedes stop in the square of the town of Priozersk at night, a completely naked man (Nikitin) got out of it and asked which way Peter was. How he ended up in a strange city in this form, who and why killed him - this is what the opera is investigating.
The son of a famous Moscow oligarch, returning from a party in a cheerful company, knocks down two young guys in his luxurious car, one of whom dies on the spot, and the other is sent to the hospital. Since the Moscow investigating authorities are afraid of pressure "from above", the management appeals to their St. Petersburg colleagues with a request to send an independent experienced operative. Petrenko's choice falls on Dukalis. The corpse of the famous St. Petersburg businessman and politician Viktor Kravtsov was found in a room in a Moscow hotel. A murdered girl, a certain Svetlana Zhukova, is also found next to him. Of course, the death of such a large figure as Kravtsov made a lot of noise. Therefore, the Moscow leadership of the "slaughter department" asks to send an experienced operative for help from St. Petersburg. Larin leaves for Moscow. At first, the murder of a famous politician seems to be a contract, where Svetlana is just an accidental victim. But in the course of the investigation it turns out that Zhukova, who became an unwitting witness to the murder of her former boss, was the killer's "target". And Kravtsov simply found himself, as they say, in "the wrong place, at the wrong time."
Just before the New Year, Lieutenant Colonel Petrenko receives an order from the Directorate: on January 1, at 12 noon, one of his subordinates must appear at a children's matinee to tell "about the everyday life of the police service." As a "compensation" they promise a huge cake from a sponsor. Of course, Nastya, Dukalis and Larin have something to tell about their everyday life, but Nastya and Kondakov have gathered outside the city, relatives come to Larin, and Dukalis has plans ... to work in the police, not pedagogical. As proof, he tells his story to colleagues. It turned out that the Companion would never have gone to work in the police, if not for the case. He was robbed on the street. The police refused to accept the application - the case seemed too small. But the operative Drozdov advised the guy to investigate himself, because there is nothing difficult in this - just spit.
A businessman Krasnov, a famous art collector, was killed in his apartment. The operatives were able to establish that the painting, which recently appeared in the gallery, had previously belonged to Krasnov and was listed as missing after his murder.
