Political reporter Erich Fichtelius started working on his documentary project in 1996 when Göran Persson was chosen by the Social Democratic party of Sweden to lead the party and thus to take office as the Prime Minister. The unprecedented access to the prime minister was kept secret and was conditional on the documentary not being shown until he was no longer in office. Fichtelius conducted 57 interviews, totalling more than 100 hours of material, during Persson's 10 years in office. The secrecy of the project caused controversies when it was finally revealed as Fichtelius had continued to work as a political reporter throughout the project, casting doubt on his impartiality, and resulting in his resignation from several posts. After Persson's electoral defeat and subsequent resignation in 2006, the material was edited into four one-hour segments and broadcast on Swedish television in 2007.

  • 2007-03-22T00:00:00Z1h

Details the murder of Anna Lindh, Persson's Minister for Foreign Affairs who was widely speculated to be his successor. Persson's differences with fellow Minister Leif Pagrotsky over whether Sweden should adopt the euro, the 2002 election and Persson's marriage to Annika Persson, which ended in divorce in 2003, are also discussed.

Persson is getting frustrated and annoyed over political backstabbing and media lynchings. He finds a farm in Sörmland where he starts to construct the house of his dreams but starts to fear for his own safety after all the media attention. Persson tries, in vain, to persuade Margot Wallström to return to Sweden and to take over his chairmanship of the Social Democrats. In spite of doubts, he retains leadership of the party and gets an epiphany of electoral victory. The epiphany turns out to be incorrect as Persson is defeated in the 2006 election followed by his resignation.
