A bright moment for Roger, as thanks to a story he remembers from his childhood, the community at Fraser's Ridge can repel locusts. He finally wins the neighbours' respect he craved so much for. I am not a big fan of his character but he does feel lost, having to live through history instead of just studying it and lecturing about it.
The goodbye of aunt Jocasta and Murtagh was quite sad since it is obvious that both love each other but the event from after Culloden when Jocasta lost her daughters because of her husband's involvement in politics left a mark on her. A tragic story that added depth to the character of the aunt.
