Nooooooooo. Not Ruth :sob:. I really wanted her to survive.
Unfortunately I think they didn't quite stick the landing with this one. The second half of the season just fell a bit flat too me. Too plot-holey and too clean.
I still love the show in it's entirety but just a tad disappointed with the finale.
I know some people think it was a cliffhanger, but in my opinion it was a very well thought finale. The extremely proud faces of Marty and Wendy when Jonah pointed out the rifle say everything you need. At the previous seasons, they were worrying about Jonah obsessing with guns or shooting somebody. That's how all the fucked up things are in their blood now, they are very proud. They will never get out because they don't want to get out. I know Jonah cared about Ben, but if he would want to seek justice, he would have done it a long time ago by going to the police or telling everything to the PI guy. So I'm sure Jonah wouldn't hesitate to shoot. That last seconds really summarize what/who Bryde family become, and it is the perfect ending for the whole story.
I didn't want Ruth to die, but she was really someone important to Brydes. She was always practical to solve their problems and helped them in many occassions. Marty cared about her almost like a sister at one point. So the way how they let her die also shows how dark they are now, I believe.
“I always got time for my fuckin’ government.” :smirk:
How come that landing the ending is so hard for so many series but rarely for movies. We had a major cliffhanger at the beginning of the first part of this season which ended up being a red herring. Is it because we can't let "the bad guy" win or are they really considering every viewer and want to please all making it suck for even more of 'm.
Killing Ruth so late in the game was pointless. Same with Navarro really since he gets replaced by someone who most likely is even worse. And then they pull this Sopranos ending at the end? To prove what? How a kid shoots either an honorable man or his parents or that he shoots in the air for no reason in particular. In what book is this a good ending? Nothing is resolved, nothing is cleared up, it doesn't end even though it ended. Pointless second half of a season from a great show with the biggest cunt I've ever witnessed in a series (Yes Wendy "I got what I wanted to all of a sudden I'm sane again and everyone loves me" Byrde).
Maybe there isn't a good ending, but this certainly was the lamest way to end it.
The crash scene makes no sense. Why is the truck on the other side of the road when there are double lines & no traffic pattern to force the truck there. Stupid scene.
For years we’ve followed the Byrdes through this, being on their side hoping they’ll make it. In the last few minutes we’re being reminded that what they’re doing is wrong. We’ve been reminded of it here and there, but never so … loudly. At least suddenly I was reminded that I’d also be the person fighting for “what’s right”, who’d say “you don’t get to win”, in the end.
Well, despite that, I was invested, so I wanted them to win. Despite all the bodies in their wake.
And holy moly, the kids really got invested too. Hurray for the Byrdes. What a show.
So…it was a good show…a good mainstream show…but nothing more. Compared to Saul…it was a shit show. Ozark was ok, saul is pure art.
And yes…you CAN compare them, don’t argue with me.
Car crashed and flipped over? Actually, it's super easy. Barely an inconvenience.
Amazing ending. True commitment to its themes and tone.
The car crash was so pointless. I have no idea what the point of that was. Overall not a very good final season.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WHY DID THAT SLOW MOTION BULLET LOOK SO BAD!!?
I have a hell of a lot of respect for writers that don't give the audience what they want. The bad guys won and the good ones (if there is such a thing on this show) died.
Not everyone will be happy with this finale but it was true to the end.
This season was great, just as all of the previous season were. But, I found it to be underwhelming, and it's definitely my least favourite of the 4 seasons.
Ok. I could admit this was a decent finale. But it was just not the finale I wanted. Obviously I wanted the Byrdes dead, they deserved. And Ruth alive, maybe she did not deserved it but I wanted that.
Reading these comments, I never realised the extent to which Wendy had become Skyler. I think she's a great character, excellently acted and written. Misogyny is alive and well.
A good finale but not up there with the very greats. Lots of contrivances and GoT style shortcuts. And that whole car crash thing was the worst kind of fake out.
Enjoyed the Langmore reunion. And sad that the family's end was so Ruthless:cry:
Loved the final scene. The look on the faces of two actors at the top of their game said more than an hour of dialogue.
Holy fucking shit. What a fucked up ending to a fucked up show, in the best ways possible. Jason Bateman with a role of a lifetime... Gonna miss it!
:sob::sob::sob::sob::sob: OMG!!! Why did Ruth have to die???
I would have been okay with Wendy getting killed.
I hate what happened with Ruth, I mean she deserves so much better than what she got. Jonah should just shoot Wendy instead and be done with it. The Byrdes are the worst, they were the ones that were cursed and they took out everyone around them while they are still standing. I hate Wendy so much that I want her dead. She was annoying af.
Yup the final was disappointing. Such a good show and they made a mess in last season and specially the last episode.
A Hard Way to Go. You can say that again. The finale ended up being the single worst episode of the series, the rest of the show was superb. Therefore, it’s only right - 1 star.
Shouldn’t Wendy had said “go but not with your grandfather” what was all the fucking fuss about if you still was going to let them go with him :man_facepalming_tone3:
That was so stupid, why would anyone just stand there like what ruth did instead of running to the trailer for a weapon that was a shitty way for Ruth to go after all that.
I thought the sister would have not killed Navaro but i guess she really wanted the power. Why not call off the hit after you knew he didn’t kill your son. That means it was NEVER about your son dummy.
This PI is really starting to piss me off. They should have killed him a long time ago. Plus what Wendy did wasn’t illegal, she just left her brother at a place that’s it. I mean i guess legally they could charge her for a false missing report. They can’t prove she cremated him or that she knew he was missing. Shoot him!!! Jesus, I wouldn’t have sat there and listen to his entitled bs
I know Jonah hates his mom but was it enough to shoot her at the end? I want to say he shot the PI because they really want to get back to Chicago but i dont know
That was a shitty ending. WENDY!!! Stays alive well maybe if Jonah didnt shoot her i dont think he’s that much of a spoil brat though? And Ruth dies?!?!?. Come on if anyone deserves to make it put it was Ruth
This is some stupid ass writing. It’s like reverse character development. They start smart in season 1 and by season 4 they are a bunch of retarded idiots. And the kids do a 180 in a single episode. Did Netflix pull the budget by end of season production run? No wonder Netflix is failing.
What. The. Hell. Now that 'that' is out of the way...I will miss this show, but definitely not Wendy. The longer the show went on, the more I wanted her to disappear. I felt like the last 2 episodes were rushed, like they were in a hurry to tie the ends up. Things that were out of whack to me: Wendy - on her knees, crying & begging her Dad not to take her kids. This is a man she has despised for years. She has access to Cartel hitmen. Why not help him have an accident? She loved her brother, yet didn't hesitate to help him disappear when he bothered her. Ruth - stopping, all alone, at night on a desolate road and walking up to a car just like the one a Cartel hitman was driving when coming after her a few weeks earlier. She's smarter than that! Marty & Wendy not giving a heads-up to Ruth - not even a hint! These squirrelly MF's have connived, lied, weaseled, & conspired with Mexican drug lords and the FBI, yet can't get a life or death message to someone that's within a 75ft radius of them?? And then there's the ending.... that damn Sopranos-thing. As much as I was aggravated after watching it, I guess it did kinda help me sleep. You see, what had happened was...while they were in the backyard with the PI, they got a phone call about Ruth being dead. The kids took the call and Jonah didn't take it too well. He was as tired of his Mom's crap as I was and well....BOOM.
The writing is excellent and the characters grow accordingly as the 4 seasons pass. Laura Linney is wonderful in her part as she starts out as a typical, unassuming housewife and grows into a ruthless drug cartel lobbyist. Jason Bateman really goes beyond anything I've ever seen him portray before - I'll stop short of saying 'beyond his comfort zone' because he pulled this character off very well. Even as a behind-the-scenes drug money launderer, he's a guy you'd want as a husband. LOL The two actors playing the kids (Sofia Hublitz & Skylar Gaertner) are both good and will probably be seen a lot in future films and TV. And then there's Julia Garner, who it seems the role of Ruth was written for. Great actress and will definitely be seen in more projects (Inventing Anna was a good show). I will keep this creator's name, Bill Dubuque, in my little book of 'must see their projects'. This is the same guy that created the movie The Accountant. I read some complaints about lighting issues but I didn't notice any. Maybe it is a TV setting.
A dark ending that is consistent with the essence of the series, giving meaning to this second half of the season to give a proper closure to all the stories. Ozark is positioned as one of the best series on the platform.
Laura Linney's performance as Wendy Byrde is impressive, she becomes the darkest character in the series.
I'm glad they gave the show a proper ending.
Good ending thought it could have been better if wendy wasn't around.
i accidentally watched this episode instead of the whole second half o the season. I don't feel i missed anything
WHAT??!?!? at least LOST tried to give you an ending
What a huge disappointment! I mean they really all get away with it except the coolest Charakter on the Show — Ruth doesn't!? Oh come on! At least Wendy would have deserved her fair punishment!!! What happened? Did the writers end up missing their balls or what? What a crappy ending to such a good TV-Show
Ruth too? See, when they ruin the last season like this it spoils the whole series. I'll never recommend this show to anyone and I'll think twice before watching anything from this show's creative team ever again.
Tragic ending for Ruth's character. I kinda wish she survives and be Jessie BB version on this one. She sacrificed so much and endured a lot of things to be ended that way.
I think the ending could have been a lot better
All great things must come to an end. Fantastic show! Please do yourself a favor and watch this series.
Excellent all the way through from Season 1 Episode 1 to Season 4 Episode 14. Finale. I was really hoping that Ruth would live and become very successful.
An ending that pissed me off as much as the sopranos finale..
Do I really need to say any more...
A great ending. It replaced instantly my all time favorite "lost". Something that i never thought it could happened.
Crazy ending! Sad it’s over.
Damn. Really bummed it’s all over. Great show with a great cast. It will be missed.
Good ending to the show and a good final season overall. A bit convenient and contrived that she asked Shaw in a chance encounter at the do and she blabbed to drive the whole ending but satisfying none the less
What a fantastic show. God.

The same fxcking car Ruth knows was following her prior, but she parks, gets out and walks over to inspect?!! AND WENDY THE WITCH LIVES??! WHACK final scene. Someone just tell me Jonah shot Wendy and I’ll be happy!
